Eleanor of Toledo was a sixteenth-century Italian noblewoman who became Duchess of Florence by marriage to Cosimo I de' Medici. She was an intelligent, quiet and dignified woman who greatly influenced her husband. Eleonora was described as socially reserved, and her influence was not only seen in her family relationships, but also in her cultural and architectural initiatives, including the remodeling of the Pitti Palace and the creation of the Boboli Gardens in Florence. Eleonora and Cosimo's marriage was harmonious and lasted 23 years.
