This is one of the most dense lesson I've watched on RU-vid. I don't mean that negatively. There's so much to work on a chew on and it's all just great stuff. Thanks so much for putting this up.
I want to thank you for this lesson. I had little interest in this genre of music, but found your explanation of 3rds in C to be very helpful. Now I feel like a whole new musical world has opened up.
Adrian a tip of my hat to you i have been wanting to use 3rds in southern gospel type and you have so perfectly explained it to me you are a amazing teacher thank you so very much from Texas USA
I had a Telecaster for my 50th birthday. I play mostly indie stuff but I am being drawn irreversibly into the magical sound of a Tele playing country. Great lesson. Thanks
What's funny is I've been playing guitar for 30 years and no training but this really made a ton of sense because even though I know these pairings make sense sound wise I never really understood visually how it works. Very nice video and thank you.
Your teaching is the perfect blend of music, theory, technique and tone. Amazing that you cover all the bases and manage to make the material so understandable. I subscribed to you Patreon as a small thank you for al, the work you obviously put in to these videos.
Philip, I'm simply replying to someone (in this case you) on this channel only because for some reason I can't save anything on You Tube unless I get a reply. I'm simply asking if you'd type "ok," or whatever so I can save this lesson on my laptop. It's a great lesson and I want to be able to pull it up and practice it. Thanks!
Wow amazing lesson. Lots to un pack (and practice). It’s taken me forty years to now understand what you’re talking about. Thanks for the lesson. All the best.
Adrian, thank you for demonstrating the different shapes you’re using with the 3rds. Your explanation of the flat 3rd really clarifies it’s sound and place in country picking. The sound of the Tele, Fender amp and Dynacomp would make Don Rich smile! Thank you sir.
Thank you so much for your excellent lessons! I think the reason I love them so much is because you don't just teach us a lick, you also give us the tools to understand what is happening and hopefully be able to apply it elsewhere in our own playing.
Hi Adrian, always a pleasure to watch you play... Love the country licks - such fun to (attempt to) play myself. That's my weekend's practice sorted out then - thanks!
C, Eb and G walk into a bar. The bartender turns to Eb and says "Get out of here! We don't allow minors in here!" So Eb left and C and G stayed and enjoyed a fifth.
This is prob my all time fav guitar tutorial on youtube. I've watched it MANY times & it has opened up so much of my playing. It's not difficult to digest or understand, and the concepts will genuinely change the way you see & play the guitar. Thank you!
I very much enjoy your videos. You offer very clear instruction. If you ever want to have some fun trivia, what we are calling "country" (traditional 17th 18th century Appalachian folk music played on mandolins, fiddles and acoustic guitars and the likes) is really "country and western" (a jazz fusion coming from Southern California mid 20th century, of which the Telecaster was designed from/for).
Welcome to the Velvet Underground of guitar channels: it may not be the # 1 channel on RU-vid, but everybody who does subscribe gets good enough to form a band.
Watched this late last night and actually got up early this Sunday morning to get stuck into it. So many phrases that caught my ear as classics that I've always wanted to learn. I've been looking at a lot of country and Rockabilly stuff lately and it's really changing my approach to soloing. It's really amped up my enthusiasm for playing and I bought my first guitar in 1978.
Wow! You are one hell of a teacher. You explain so well. Myxolidian to me meant a minor moon of Alpha Centauri before you came along. Thank you so much! (Plus I LOVE your Tele sound!)
Thank you brother I appreciate that lesson I am pretty accomplished Rock player but now I am taking on country and that was a nice start for me thank you very much
As always, absolutely amazed by all your videos not only by the knowledge you have but the endless variety you are able to play and teach amazing!!! Simplistic Verbal instruction combined with your master guitar skills. Ability to play any type of music it seems. Just blows the mind. I'm thinking this guy must have taken lessons before birth !!! lol what an amazing gift makes me jealously disgusted, frustrated, depressed and highly inspired all at the same time lol Like how the heck do you know so much and able to play it effortlessly too ??? Must be great feeling!!!
You are a godsend. Your lessons in both rockabilly and country music genres have been so helpful. Thanks so much! 🤠 Brilliant lesson! Love the sound! Love all your content in all styles of music!
I was already a fan and a patron, but gotta say I was really impressed by this video as a model of concision. So much useful info, starting from a basic point and working up to applications, in an easily understandable manner and without any wasted time.
Adrian always provides great lessons and the music theory is always welcome, beginners don't be afraid of it, MT will only make you better and you can choose how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. :)
Adrian, I really enjoy the aplomb you display in your lessons simple and direct, not a superfluous word or a noodle. The right guitar and the right amp. This is a sweet little tune and I'm going to learn it right after I get to work on 'Needle of Death". I saw Bert when he came to Seattle in around '87, nice guy who plays great, we learned "Running From Home" and have been singing it around here for 45 years. Just really excellent performance. God Bless, don't let the meat loaf. Cheers from Port Orchard, Washington!
Really happy to have stumbled upon your stuff here. I dig your playing style and your pedagogy. Keep up the great teaching and I’ll keep right on learnin’.
You easily deserve a Sub! Everything straight forward and in bite sized pieces! Learning Country from a UK Bloke! American Country guys can learn from you!
Thanks for explaining this so well, it was incredibly helpful. The mixo bit was brilliant as I knew the sound but was clueless to where it came from Thanks again Adrian
Really like how you show these ideas coming out of the chords. Same with your sixths lesson. Great format. Once I get these under my fingers, can find them in any changes!
Thing is Adrian, I’m conflicted. On the one hand this is yet another brilliant lesson from you, but at the same time, a reminder that I’ve got miles and miles to go to get where I want on guitar. Your talent is top, don’t think anyone else would have done such a lesson
Somehow for me Adrian seems to have just the right presentation, so that even when I'm amazed by his playing and think I won't ever play like that, he shows a clear path that I feel will let me at least advance in the direction of that goal.
friend, you're never going to get where you want in music, Duke Ellington said he never did. That's the beauty of it, especially when you hit a new plateau every couple years.
Cheers Sean. I don't think anyone ever really gets to where they want to go. I'll sometimes find myself watching, say, a Julian Lage video and feel a bit depressed about my own playing. But you really have to enjoy the process, and even though you always want to keep learning it's good to realise that how you play right now is unique and good enough.
Thanks Adrian another well thought out lesson short, sweet and melodic - great motivation. Non threatening music theory as well - keep up the good work.
YeHaww that's some fine pick'n goin' on!. Seriously,I don't know why I've waited so long to click the "bell". Your videos are very helpful but they just don't show up regular on my feed. I was just listening to Morse's "General Lee" (today) and thinking "I really need to work on my country lead more often" and here you are! Thanx a chik'n Pik'n bunch.
Revisiting this video to get a more country feel. Would you consider doing a tutorial on the Dave Edmunds and Stray Cats version of The Race Is On? I could hear snippets of those guitars as you were showing the chromatic slides. Great stuff as always, Adrian!
