The Beautifully Smooth Aim of Snowi - Unraveling the Secrets of Aim Ep. 3

While Snowi has not played aim training in full for a very long time, it is insane to think about how ahead he was in terms of technique during the humble beginnings of Kovaak's and the aim community. His bounce 180 score here • bounce 180 150.5 was 25 points above second place.
Whose technique should I cover in the next episode of Unraveling the Secrets of Aim? Let me know in the comments below.
Sorry for the delay on this episode. I really wanted to get this sponsorship deal out and let you guys try the tea:

Another trick for improving smoothness technique that I learned from my own personal smoothness god, Scucchi, is to train on easy versions of the scenario, especially at the end of the day or when you are too tired to do harder scens. You can still improve your technique. I found I can play on easy scenarios for a really long time, but still push my technique.

Being more consistent and aiming with intent is the way to go if you want to see and feel the improvement. Whenever I post runs, people always say it looks “disgustingly slow” but very smooth. I’ve always trained my technique and accuracy over speed, and while I’m still not as fast as I’d like to be, I can still achieve top scores with higher percentages than others. Consistency is much better.

I am amazed by this type of aim. Mine in tracking sessions are the equivalent of a train wreck
@klappadu7020
@klappadu7020 7 месяцев назад
This is also what you want ingame, because at high level you either are doing the right move (in which case you just need consistent aim you can rely on getting it done) or you are dead anyway. There are always chaotic counter examples where the theoretically wrong play succeeds due to crazy flicks or the enemy just not being prepared, but those only happen once a game or so. I often whiffed easy shots in the past because I thought I need to be flashy, which resulted in having lower confidence and constantly second guessing every move.

this is something i've kind of discovered myself through osu, as a game that's very consistency based, i noticed that the people who spammed DT to push their aim would be overall inconsistent while the people who took their time with lower ARs would have a higher aim consistency and a higher baseline skill.
@MinnVictus
@MinnVictus 10 месяцев назад
As someone who has only played a little but of OSU in the past, can you clarify what DT and AR are?
@gudsushii
@gudsushii 10 месяцев назад
@@MinnVictus DT is Double Time mod, speeds up the map by 1.5x. AR is approach rate, how fast the approach circles close in on each note. Lower AR would mean that the circles close in slower and are on screen for a longer amount of time.

This is why one of if not the best Nomod AND ar11 players white cats biggest tip or advice is to play ez/ezdt which is super slow, the exact opposite. I did that and especially when I started out I basically could outplay anyone in my rank range (120k even 50k’s on certain maps) but I still was a speedy player who just learned to also be calm.
@roptant
@roptant 7 месяцев назад
I disagree (not with your point, but with your osu analogy). As a consistency player who reached 4 digit using only Nomod, I feel immense regret for not learning DT while I were a newer player. Maybe this applies for osu! only, but there's a prevalent pattern among top players which is one tricking dt aim to the top, and then expanding your skillset from there. Playing DT pushes your skillcap, which is the only thing that matters if you are trying to reach the top. Consistency can be learnt later on when you decide to join tournaments and whatnot. I do agree that's its very different with aim training tho, u need proper technique and consistency for that

Thank you! This makes me motivated to keep grinding this way. I play Apex legends and most of people that I know plays with a flicky technique which I dislike... instead I like the smoothness flow aim that the controller(pad/joystick) player have and I want my aim to be like that even though I use mouse. It's not impossible since I see so many Korea/Japan OW/Apex player have this kind of smooth flow aim with mouse so I keep practicing slow and low score but high accuracy but I have been doubting myself as of recently. So this video just makes me feel so validated! Thank you so much! ❤

I've seen a lot of videos on this recently and am really liking it. I've been trying to smooth out my aim and be less flicky. Woohoojin and Daniel Kapadia have both covered this recently with how you flick being more of a deacceleration curve and understanding this has helped me a ton. I've now noticed this is how a lot of pros aim in game.

Great stuff, your interview with ddk was great stuff, and this content is even more rich. Interesting how there are certain characteristics across gaming, sports, etc., that are almost more desirable than pure performance outcome. Snowi's smoothness is the aim equivalent of this. I would aspire for Snowi's smoothness and top 10-20 aim over top aim anyday. Watching the Bounce 180 example is pure kino. To go way back, reminds me a lot of toxjq from Quake. He was the pinnacle of aim from his arrival for what seemed like over a decade. Even though there are plenty of players who match or surpass him in aim (e.g., serious, clawz), there's an it factor that stands out more as a spectator. This type of smoothness is the same trait. I'm old (in gamer years) now, and don't have much time to play anything anymore, but thanks for breaking this down and articulating something that, for a couple of decades, has just seemed innate in very few players.

Smoothness helping with clarity is very dependant on your monitor. If you are smooth and have consistent movement on your monitor, you will consistently see some amount of ghosting / blur that could make it difficult to see what is going on, on bad monitors. Flicking and then stopping to see what is going on in this situation would be easier, because the amount of blur caused by on screen movement is lowered. This is why you see a lot of people flick very snappily in games like CS, where any amount of blur could make the enemy incredibly hard to see on a bad monitor. If you have a good monitor though, then smoothness is the way to go.

Awesome video! I saw your interview with Daniel and I'm working my way through your backlog. I'm particularly interested in close strafes and the idea of "running out of mousepad" (something I hear people say occasionally when they die in overwatch!). I saw your video "Close FS Thin Evo V2" and I was under the assumption that since you change sensitivities for different scenarios, you would choose a high sensitivity that would let you avoid the "running out of mousepad" problem. I was really surprised when you literally ran out of mousepad and simply set it back quickly and resumed tracking! I was wondering if there's some nuance behind it. After seeing you do that it was kind of mindblowing. I have been practicing 20cm/360 so I could 180 around blink like crazy on Tracer, but my tracking is better ingame and in Kovaaks on 35cm/360 (though I feel like I run out of mousepad easily at that point). I play on a large 45cm pad for reference. I guess I'm just wondering if there's a trick to quickly resetting when you run out without impeding your Kovaaks run or gunfight in OW. I have been binging aim related content and have yet to really see the mechanics of this addressed. Although maybe the answer is just lift your mouse up bro and I'm overthinking it lmao.

@mattyow777
@mattyow777 10 месяцев назад
That is strictly static clicking where I found that issue to be most present. This video encompasses far more than that. Also, the problem isn't really that it is "too smooth." A more updated descriptor would be that it is "too floaty" and indeliberate.
