I withdrew from my Anglican seminary as my wife and I (with our four girls) entered into the Orthodox Church. At my last meeting with the dean of the school, he told me I needed to remember that I stood upon western soil. . . that was a very telling statement from a prominent Anglican priest and dean. Lord have mercy upon us.

Yeah my church in California has a gold dome I hope our people can grow over here in the west.

You’ll find the in the US, even generations later from the ones fresh off the boat from the homeland, we hold our cultural ethnic identities very close to us. Some of it is lived on through orthodoxy, as our churches were founded by one’s fresh from those countries. Originally founded Greek Orthodox churches are round in shape like in Greece, Russian churches have their domes, etc. We’re proud of our American heritage and being Americans but we can’t forget our family’s roots, and traditions.

Coptics are Oriental Orthodox, OMS is Eastern Orthodox so I don't think he will compile a list of Coptic chants.

For a big city like Toronto an Orthodox church with English liturgy is virtually nonexistent 😢

Best way to see if you want to start your catechism is to simply go to your nearest Orthodox church. A quick google search can find one for you. Also, coming from personal experience, if you do go to the church that you chose, take some time to ask questions with the priest on what Orthodoxy is and any other questions you might have. So.. some of the Monasteries from Iasi that I know and are very beautiful : Monastery Golia, Monastery Galata ,Monastery Cetatuia .Also nearby Iasi there are Monastery Putna(made in 1466) and Voronet .2 of the some oldest and most beautiful from our country (You cant miss those ) . If you go through Brasov make sure you vist Monastery Sambata de Sus( amazing people ,I ve been with my parents). And if you what some beautiful views with mountains ,old Churces traditional food and Amazing people,when you go to Iasi, go through Maramures (Nord of the country).Hope it helped

Think of the ethnic churches as jurisdictions. Many in the ROCOR are not Russian, for example. Most Orthodox churches that I have been to have been very multi-ethnic. Some are still cliquish but for a long time in America there were the Catholic Churches that the Italians went to and the ones that the Irish went to. It’s not a unique problem. In my parish we recite the Our Father in the languages of all present. English, Russian, Greek and even Spanish. It’s joyous. Taste and see.

Visit the nearest German or English speaking orthodox church there is to you, meet with the priest and explain your situation, and ask him for advice on how to continue exploring the faith.

Es ist wirklich nicht so einfach als Deutscher, ich kenne das nur zu gut. Zum Glück gibt es bei mir in der Nähe sogar eine deutsche Gemeinde, aber davor war ich in einer griechisch orthodoxen Gemeinde und bin da auch zur Katechese gegangen, die auf deutsch war. Gesalbt wurde ich auch dort. Ich kann dir nur raten keine Scheu zu haben, in eine russische, serbische (etc...) Gemeinde zu gehen. Man wird herzlich aufgenommen und ein Priester oder Bischof kann auch bestimmt Deutsch. Das wichtigste ist erstmal zu lernen und irgendwann getauft zu werden, wenn man soweit ist. Deine Volkszugehörigkeit ist dabei kein Hindernis, alles schon selbst erlebt :) Viel Glück auf deinem Weg und Gottes Segen! ☦︎
