@@HidekiOirababy So, the Evan Rachel Wood character is reflective of someone’s first love, usually appearing in your early 20’s… That feeling of enrapture, borderline obsession, portrayed expertly by Shia LaBeouf. Yet, she seems unattainable, (as first loves commonly are), with the manic, indeterminate threat of Mads Mikkelsen’s character... He’s psychotic and violent, there at every step of the way to make Shia’s life miserable… But we don’t know a whole lot about him. We don’t need to. Growing up is also about realising there’s always gonna be inexplicable obstacles in your life. Shia’s character doesn’t care about the criminal underworld that Evan Rachel Wood’s character is a part of… He only cares about HER. So as young adults, we’ll often look past the circumstantial things, though this leads to hurting ourselves in the process, especially when it comes to girls… The end of the movie, with “Intro” by M83 is a really powerful scene. Like, look what Shia’s character had gotten himself into. He’s dangling upside down from a chain above the waterworks… Pushed to his limit, mentally and physically… In our 20’s, we are taken to this kind of limit too, through work and heartbreak, etc. The title of the movie “The Death of Charlie Countryman”, I think, refers to the death of childlike innocence, the departure of one’s old self, through a sobering series of events - which well all go thru in some way. Also, most plainly, the whole idea of a young man travelling internationally, having wild nights out in Romania (Europe) is every 20 year-old’s dream, and hopefully what they’ll get to experience. And the film also contains an inherent dream-like quality. When I’m much older, that’s how I think I’m going to look back on my 20’s. Hope this made it a little clearer :)

@@HidekiOirababy I agree totally. First saw the movie when I was 20ish and found, and still find it nails the feeling of that time. The rapid changes of life, the fear and uncertainty, the optimism. I recommend James White if you haven't seen it. Very good and reminded me of this movie.
