In hindsight I know I was too impatient with when I wanted this video to come out as I was giving myself a hard time for not uploading. I do like the end product and that what matters, but I will take what I learned from this experience and get better from this point. I hope you stick around for more. Any criticisms are welcome as my main goal is to just get better.
Just started playing again recently. It's such a masterpiece from a purely gameplay perspective. Say what you will about the storyline/writing etc, but this game has so much to offer from a gameplay perspective. I think it's actually one of, it not the best game ever made if you only take gameplay into account.
Some of the hitboxes are beyond a joke though and rage inducing The underworld solider spin grab being one of them, man just makes you teleport into his face and stabs you despite you be g behind him and dodging with Iframes
@@THEBUGSAREBACCCCKKKKKKKKKK I just got done dealing with some weird hitbox jank with yasha's dash grab. She ran past me and I was attacking her from behind, her hand gets close to me as she's still dashing, boom I get grabbed. Still love this game
Nioh 2 gotta be one of the best ARPGS of all time, I go back to it every couple of months and I always have a blast doing so. I like blasting the Devil may Cry 5 and Metal Gear Rising soundtrack when I play.
Metal gear rising is a game I love to go back to every so often as well. it's one of my favorite action games for completely different reasons. DMC5 had me hooked for a while, but I ended up dropping it because I despised playing as v. This comment does make me want to go back to see what I was missing
I'm just finishing my latest playthrough (of many) and still feel like I'm improving. There is so much to learn and master in this game. A true masterpiece.
If you haven't watched the video in the description, it's an hour long explanation of so many different mechanics in depth. I tend to visit the video a lot when I feel i am hella rusty. Thanks for watching!
Most underrated game in decade in my opinion, the action combat system is deep like an ocean. And the character custom system itself worth 60$ already. BTW, the Yokai counter is considered as a Yokai skill, it cost 1 point purple bar(I play the Chinese verson so I don't know what's the English name) , if it's below 1, like 0.9, you can't use it. You can show all the numbers in the game in order to calculate, the selection are all in the option menu. There's a skill let you regain all the white part of your prepare-to-recover stamina and some more when changing the position, use this skill wisely, your stamina will be almost unlimited, also, your action would combo with less recover frame, very smart system design.
The skill you are talking about with the changing your weapon stance is called flux in the english version. This is an important aspect of the game i did not cover but plan on in the future. Thank you for leaving such a thoughtful comment friend.
I really like your video filter here, the distortion and chromatic abberation around the edges adds a lot of flair (Shogun tv series inspired by any chance? Since theyre doing something similar there)
Thanks man. it is actually a lighting mod for the game itself. If you own it on pc it is on the nexus web page for nioh, which ig you are unfamiliar it's a website for mods and such. Stay sharp samurai!
Thanks! I know what it’s like to watch a compilation of someone going off in this game, and not being able to understand a single thing they are doing. As I was trying to target new or returning players to the series I felt it was important that if they wanted to take the time to learn what was going on they could pause the video and take a look
So, to preface this, i just started playing Nioh 2, coming from Elden Ring, and the only thing i would disagree with here is the game does NOT ease new players in. There is so much thrown at you, both information and mechanics, i have spent three hours beating the first level. And i haven't or hadnt yet unlocked half of the things spoken about in this video. And it is so much god damn fun! The ki system is beautiful, the stance system already seems massive and then you realize the game wants you to swap stances in combos as an intermediate level, and the levels are twisty and dense while still being grindable. And full co-op is a thing in this game. Want to play every mission with a friend? Go ahead, you can, from the very first time you play the very first level.
Your story is exactly mine atm. Must b Twinnies! 😂 Some levels are super confusing where to go ,and the compass doesn't help in these....then you get some levels that have the best short cuts implemented in a game I've seen...smh lol
As a lifelong sword main, I never get tired of seeing just how differently two people can play the weapon, sword is such a malleable option. Compared to dmc5 having every weapon available, going back to keeping 2 means you really get to see the player's personality expressed through a particular weapon/combination more clearly
Started playing this last month, first time. At first, I was overwhelmed with sooo many different stances, skill choices, options, weapons, blacksmith, tea utensils, soul cores , spirit guardians,anime,amrita..u get the point...Yet as I trudged on,and with help of some summoning here n there,I came to realize I uncovered a Gem of a game!🤘
I've been searching for a video to explain Nioh 2 basics to my friend who will start playing this year. I find your video the easiest to understand. 😁 I myself have progressed to the 21st floor of the depths of the underworld, but that's on the PS4. I'm planning to replay it on PC with that friend of mine soon.
It's amazing how much way you can approach the combat in Nioh 2,from a fucking monster that can tank heavy hit, pure meta with highest DMG potential, a onmyo who shoot all kind of element, a pokemon master who use guardian spirit and yokai, hell even build that let you stay in your yokai form for most if your mission and so on
Yes! I still come across builds that amaze me with the creativity. I am a guy who loves focusing on the simple and elegant sword play, but seeing people explore other elements inspires me to change it up or even come up with a new way to tackle the game.
Having 2k hours between the two titles, I can happily say Im glad I spent my time being bad in the first Nioh, Nioh 2 wouldve killed any interest had I tried it first. Ive still barely scratched the surface of fighting styles, builds, and combos but Ive had more fun playing my style because Nioh 2 actually lets me.
I feel the same way in the sense that I feel I’m just getting started understanding everything. Even then my skill level is so low compared to those who have dedicated channels for the game. I simply want people to see the beauty of it even if I’m just a enthusiast
I downloaded Nioh 2 a couple years ago on a ps plus free monthly download. I booted it up. I picked my weapons and demon and went to first area. I got repeatedly destroyed by that Gozuki in the Village of Cursed Blossoms, and promtly deleted it. 😂 I came back to it a few weeks ago after noticing it on my download list, and have been hooked ever since. This game requires skill and patience. But is so rewarding when you finally nail an at first problematic level or boss. The weapons, move sets, and ability to ki pulse allow you alot of flexibility if you are a skilled player. I am loving every second of my first playthrough...aka the tutorial.
I had a similar experience. In fact with most souls borne games i usually get frustrated, give up, and then come back and fall in love with the game super hard.
Here are some tips I like to use. Sneak thief and cat walking scrolls make run backs a breeze; disassemble uncommon and common equipment, sell exotic and rare; mission level recommendations are based off gear level not character level, so if you're dying a lot upgrade your gear.
I honestly say coming from ninja gaiden on xbox that nioh 2 is the best game made for ps4. I like the magic, universal weapon build. I would put 200 into magic the 150 into at least 3 or 4 other stats like heart, constitution, skill and strength for the scroll of damned bonuses. Also added lots of Sentience to my tanky magatsuhi and omoike build. Also I have other magatsuhi builds like with Susanoo. This game has more features than GTA 5 by far. Kasha, The tornados this game is wild. Only bad thing I would say is you spend a lot more than normal time forging at the blacksmith. You can beat this on the hardest pretty easy once your build is very tanky.
Nice vid dude. I just started playing this (my first play through) as I'm about half way in Rise of the Ronin. This definitely takes a lot to get use to as I'm a fromsoft & the like type player. It's a rough go but definitely worth it so far 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed! It’s a weird one and a game that took me several years to really understand how to have fun in it but it was so worth it. Keep in mind I was a much less disciplined person when I picked up the game, but what I love about this game and souls -likes is that it builds resiliency in the comfort of a hobby you love. These games are honestly what I have to thank for my love of skateboarding as its kind of the same thing of just smack yourself against a problem until you can understand it
@@kingmarshall5472 fun game once you get in the groove. It does feel clunky at times and my experience with the game I was constantly deleting it and downloading it again on my ps4. Eventually it stuck and now I visit it at least once a month to just combo fools
Awesome video trugrim just one question when I complete my build is it possible to reset it and do a different build that is better for me, or am I just doomed for the rest of the game
I still need to finish this game but my muscle memory from playing other games messes me up after having not played for so long. Love this game overall though. The gameplay is really cool and as someone relatively familiar with Japanese history it’s fun. Also nice Soul Calibur music in this video. A fantastic underrated fighting game series.
Glad to see a fellow nioh head. Plan on making a guide on what I did to get through my first playthrough as I feel this is a lot of people's biggest struggle.
Yes. looking back on it there are many things i should have covered that are straight forward for someone like me who has been going back to the game for years. One of the main bits i missed was status effects and stacking them for confusion. I am only scratching the surface here in this video, but even with the little that is shown and said there is so much you can do and always so much room to grow it seems. thanks for watching the video! I am more so an enthusiast as we can tell from the video but the objective was to get more people to play the game because i feel the mechanics i did cover are very exciting .
@@baddragon5636 it was a slow burn for me if I’m being honest. I’d start it up, drop it, start it up again, but once I finished my first play though I was hooked. It took me a LONG time to actually truly get into the game at the capacity that I am now, but man it’s fun When I say it was a slow burn it took me some years before I really got into it. Maybe 2 of starting it and dropping it over and over again
My dream would be this game mixed with the worlds of dark souls and a coop raid boss type experience where bosses take a bunch of team work to conquer. I know Elden ring has a mod for it but I just don’t know enough people who would be down to A buy it on pc and B play it to completion with me
Nioh 2 is one of the goat games. It's sad people drop the game at the beginning because of the bosses, but that is part of the journey, to get better and stronger.
Yes. You come out of it by the end, a stronger gamer, and a stronger person. Weathering the storm in games where the difficulty is high, then getting to a point where you can just go on and kill most enemies with no issues is really satisfying. Especially when just throwing on some of your favorite tunes.
@Shinstrikex Problem is Nioh 2 is often put in the same category as FS games. This is why you get lots of complaints from FS players about its level design. When level design is built fine for the more action/combat focus it is going for.
@@Obbie40 they need to find some excuse for sucking at a game that requires dexterity and execution. if all else fails, blame the level design! associating with ppl that unironically peaked with FS games, is like talking with someone who's iq peaked in 1st grade.
@Shinstrikex I would have initially said that's needlessly harsh. But the more I've interacted with the fanbase, the more I've seen a lot of FS fans bash Niohs as overly complicated messes because they dont understand it. Or say the combat is boring or why bother with the combat when high stance odachi is all you need. Then there is the usual acting like the levels are just one bland box after another or something. So yeah, it seems that way for some sadly. And I personally like every FS game I played a lot. But Nioh 2 just does it for me in a way few others have. before.
Both games have become 2 of my favorite souls-likes. Still like Dark Souls 1 and 3 more, but NiOh takes the cake for Souls-likes not made by FromSoft, because they keep the core, but are very much their own thing. Games like Lies of P are just trying to be Dark Souls again.
I did not enjoy lies of p very much as everything felt extremely clunky and I couldn’t get past it. The enemies getting hit to your person getting hit felt very STIFF to me. I know they are robots but I feel there could have been more effort into making the combat feel more responsive.
@@F34RGH0ST once you unlock more abilities and such it becomes a breeze! There are a couple of hurdles in the game but with perseverance they can all be overcome
@@F34RGH0ST dont be afraid to take breaks. I think the first time i beat the game it took many breaks over the course of a year and a half or so but once it clicked it became so satisfying!
@@Trugrim it’s one of the only souls-like I can play and it takes place in one of my favorite settings. So glad I checked out Nioh after giving up on Sekiro.
So, the one real bit of critique I have here: Next time you try to do an instructional video, maybe remember to turn off your reshade. The one you are using in particular has some blurring vignetting that makes the game look garbo, and the color changes it makes are a matter of taste to say the least. When you are showing off a game to potential new purchasers or new players in general, it's best to keep it looking similar to what the base game does, instead of having advanced filtering going on. Especially when that advanced filtering is doing something like cutting the contrast to such an absurd degree or adding in sepia tones. If that's not a reshade and is actually something you purposefully did during editing, then, well, that's even worse.
No you're right on the money I actually forgot I even had it on. while I personally enjoy the way the game looks in that lighting I understand it's not for everybody. I also believe my capture card does something to my games as well and need to upgrade it, but that is besides the point. Point still stands though I should have had the actual footage be more like the base game. Thank you for taking the time to write this comment.
Personally, the first playthrough and the end game content Underworld final NG+ (Way of the Nioh I think) are the hardest. The higher the floors are, the harder it becomes. The Underworld floors 1-30 makes Elden Ring easy peasy.
I only started playing recently but omg this is one of the best, if not the best action game ever made, its fucking amazing. I love so many of the wrapons, I've got 4 different setups with 8 weapons and have GS setup for either corruption or purity, as well as stats and weapons remoddeled just so i can play them all, theyre all so good. Just one weapon is designed better than most weapons in other games and theres 11 of them all with the same amount of depth. Then add souls cores, yokai shift, finding weapons pairings that work together, etc. the level of depth and fine tuning they mustve done to get jt all to work is astonishing. Its the best combat system ive played since first getting into monster hunter, or at least the weapon design in both has set the standard for action games imo.
I played monster hunter world and it just never grabbed me. Maybe I should give the franchise a shot though I love the concept. Just hated how weird the coop system was in world seemed to water down the flow of the game when I was trying to play it with a friend.
@Trugrim Yeah most people don't like it on first try, it took me 3 tries for it to click. I recommend trying all the weapons until you find one that works for you - also watxh some tutorials on how to use the weapons on RU-vid cause the game does a terrible job at explaining the complexity of them tbh - and you can play solo if you'd prefer, I tend to fight each monster solo rhe first time round and subsequently to improve my skill, but often join other people's Hunts when I'm farming for monster parts
@@jamielee5695 thank you. I will keep this in mind. I got somewhat far but I was constantly switching weapons and constantly needing to farm for said weapon class. It got really frustrating for me. I was also a way different gamer when I did get it though so I’ll download it when I get out of college. It was fun when it did get hype I just felt I didn’t get how the actual loop of the game was supposed to feel. I also heard often that you needed to be in a group to deal with monsters from somewhere and I never questioned that. I believe I left off using the hammer but I started with the daggers
@Trugrim I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, especially with Wilds out in February. The hammer is very fun, if youre able to position yourself to hit the head regularly with that thing you'll get a lot of KOs. And nah the game scales to however many people are in the hunt, so you can play it whichever way you prefer. I personally believe solo is the best to way to learn a monsters moveset, when to counter, where to position yourself etc. I actually find it harder with 3 other players sometimes cause I find the monster less predictable, but it's a lot of fun with friends and there can be some funny situations. How do you prefer to play action games, generally? I might be able to recommend you a weapon based on playstyle
@@jamielee5695 usually I like getting in and out quickly or something that has a lot of mobility but sometimes I like having to commit to big punishing attacks it really just depends on how I’m feeling lol. In nioh in particular my favorite combo is the sword and dual sword simply for the unsheathe abilities you can use and the combos are the most satisfying to me
@@TheTrillkage Yes I love soul calibur 2 a lot. I got into 6 for a while, but any time i need my fighting game fix i get my gamecube and take it over to my buddys house and we play the hell out of it. Super easy to understand game, but the fights feel so satisfying and you can always tell what is going on.
It gets slept on because the combat system feels like a fighting game and that can be overwhelming to some, but to me it was my biggest motivator to play as I love fighting games and am no stranger to getting my ass whooped
Yeah fire bombs can really lock an enemy down for tons of fun it's just not something I put into practice sense my guardian spirt that i have chosen does a good job of stunning enemies. Just goes to show how many different tools you have at any given time.
@@Trugrim i used it with the gun booster set, and full ninjutsu build. It was fun to see how the black bombs can destroy weaker, or stronger mobs. And with the yatagarasu set you can one hit pretymuch annything undrr bosses.
The skill ceiling is insane. It's hard to get the ball rolling, but once you start gittin' gud the game just keeps on getting better and better. Then you get to Dream of Nioh and the game will really start testing your skill and knowledge.
Yeah. Getting the ball rolling is the hardest part so I’m working on a “part 2” so to speak to talk more about what helped me get to the point that I’m at now. Using axe and odachi and playing slowly really helped me learn the game and I’m sure other players having a frustrating time starting out would benefit from that style of play
I prefer the more simple combat of demon/dark souls. Pressing r1 during combat to switch stances/continue combos never felt good to me. (Its cool as hell though)
It in all honesty can feel mad clunky sometimes so understandable. Bloodborne was the first game I really got into. that has to be my favorite soulsborne ever 100% that game in a matter of a week or so.
You can keep it simple and still beat the game, even the abyss that way, with one stance. That's the beauty of this game, you can have it simple or complex, it's up to you.
I unfortunately could not “get” Wu long. I think a lot of gamers can tell when they will enjoy a game or not in the first several missions or so and it just didn’t click for me personally. I also was expecting another nioh type game so maybe I’ll have to visit it again without that bias.
I’ve never resonated more deeply with a stranger in the comments. I remember hearing from some people that they liked wu long more than nioh and it made me physically ill for 7 days and 7 nights. Sure wu longs combat is easier to dive into but it’s all flash and no substance to me. Sekiro is a beautiful display of what a game of that caliber should be able to do and I feel wu long just offers that but worse.
Yh i started the game but in my opinion the game has a huge gameplay issue. For most people playing it solo is just redicously difficult, if you don't minmax your build and put a lot time into grinding. So an average player would require to always grind so much, to stay a couple of levels above the missions, just because it is so frustrating difficult for them. And then you may start playing online, which works well for the first few maps. But this will result in a piece of cake gameplay where overpowerd players destroy everthing. I wondered why so many high level players play in low level maps. But then i realized why. When i progressed a bit, I wanted to play a little bit more on my own. My lvl is about 60 now, i am in idk the fourth map or so, the average level of the missions is 75. I wasn't even able to play the map before to the full extend, because it was too difficult, even with guides and builds I copied from youtubers. For whatever reason I also didn't get any online help anymore. If I start a multiplayer lobby, nobody joins. If I search for comrades from inside a mission, it takes 10 to 30 minutes until someone joins. At the weekend in the prime time... You will barely matched together with people on the same level. Playing coop this way really sucks. I could imagine, playing coop with a friend without someone beeing OP would be perfect. Lets say play casualy with 1 or 2 friends on the same level or maybe a little bit higher level than your own could make really fun. But the difference in coop and solo playing is way to insane. I think this game is neither made well for solo nor for coop with random internet people. That's super annoying. I think a game like elden ring is much better. Because in Elden Ring it comes to skill and maybe level. But it is more forgiving in regards of builds and equipment. Of course leveling up your gear helps alot, but it is more made on a casual level. Like you can really increase your skill to a working level, without the feeling, that some missions are impossible to do on your own. This really sucks in Nioh2. There are a couple of missions, where it is completely impossible to beat certain bosses on my level alone. Even with good builds I used from the web. Maybe they are too old, maybe they got nerfed. But i think the problem is deeper. But everything else is great in this game. They just screwed the whole difficulty design , but the game is good. What I also highly dislike, what i see from higher level guide videos, it really all depends on gear and build. So if you will get a gear with idk, high life leech or so, or generating unlimited anima ressource or having unlitimed whatever, the core game mechanics change so much, that everything you learned so far will become irrelevant. So even if you are the hardcore type of player, really increasing your skill and become a real fighting master (which is possible I think), you can just throw all your skill away, once you get to a point where your gear and skills take over the job. Yeah and I really don't like this. I think it would be better, if the game will be a little bit more forgiving on the one hand, but still allow you to increase your skill and become really good, like in a fighting game like mortal kombat. IT is a joy to get used to your weapon style and create really nice combos. Also the ki impulse idea is great in general. Once you get used to it, it makes fun. I think this game would be much better, without the OP gear and with a lesser difficulty.
I am actually planning on doing a video on what build I used to get through my first play through of the game. I think you are worried about builds a little too much and need to focus on how to go about encounters. that helped me understand the game better, but to put it in words to help you also come to the understanding that i came to. Stamina and strength are KING. I used axe and odachi at first but swapped to dual swords as you can unlock an ability that will give you more armor the more you hit an enemy. I also was in teh ball park that this game is bs for a while, but as you keep playing the game and unlock abilities that make the game a bit easier (kasha soul core im looking at you) it becomes a breeze and a power fantasy of cuttung everything down. you wanna have enough dexterity and points in ninjutsu to unlock quick change, which acts as a sort of second chance or a substitution jutsu from naruto if you are familiar with that concept. So the stamina increasing your ability to equiped really heavy armor and your ability to doge death with quick change give you an opportunity to learn from your mistakes right then and there rather then having to die and go back to the point you were at in the game. Your crtiques of the game are appreciated because i am obviously biased as i have accepted these issues as part of a master piece rather than looking at it from the perspective of someone who still faces them as challenges. Lets me know what to talk about if/when I decide to talk about nioh again. As far as your elden ring comparison is concerned, while I LOVED the game to the point of beating every boss available to me, Mid game lacked heavily. i SPENT SO MUCH TIME going for the age of stars ending only for that whole side quest line to boost me to unbelievable heights where the game felt too easy. Then all of a sudden they hit you with the black blade malakeith and he seems like such a huge leap from everything before him. What is interesting about that though is every run of that game from so many people ends up being different. For example in Bloodborne there are so many people who have a hard time with orphan of kos. I beat him first try but had a hard time with ludwig, who stomped me for a week. The game does have a tendency to feel clunky, but I hope you are able to stick with it and overcome the idea that you need help to beat the game. You can do it. i know the OP build videos may make it seem like that is the only way to play the game, but from my perspective it is just not true. On my ps4 profile I was able to get very far with my ability to doge moves with the split staff and use range with my axes. (i got to the underworld so ng + 4 i think) I also believe that combo is good for starting the game, but i will do testing before I make a guide on it. I love the sword and dual sword combo so much now that i find it boring to go back to any other weapon, but I know I just have to keep figuring out what other weapons excel at as they seem the balanced ones of the pack. Thank you for taking the time to write out such a thoughtful comment I appreciate your perspective A LOT
I didn't really grind, I just did the sub missions and got close to or over the recommended level pretty easily. The game is a lot easier for beginners when you focus on strength/stamina like TruGrim said but you can get away with putting your stats into almost anything. Those high level build guides only exist when you have almost completed the game or when you are playing a ng+ run and that's why they can do so much ridiculous stuff. Also the content is still difficult if you aren't skilled so that will not carry someone even if they have a broken build, many bosses or yokai will not care about how tanky your build is and will still kill you easily if you cannot dodge or block correctly. The game is balanced well but the game is not that well made for beginners despite being much easier to get into compared to Nioh 1 so I get where you're coming from.
@@TruTrae Hard agree. stamina strength is only really a tool I used to get used to the game, but after a bit of time the skill carried over to other builds, and I became a huge fan of sword and dual swords builds. To expand more on the stats thing metioned in the comments above, with as little skill points as level 75 gives you (low for this game) those stats are going to bump your weapon damage by a tiny amount which is why it is easier for new game players to just dump their stats in stamina and maybe constitution if you want to cushion your health more! It's also worth it to throw in that the recommended level is kind of busted and doesn't work as intended. I am always under leveled according to the game. doesn't matter if i am in new game + 4 or just a brand new game. Try not to let the level recommendations discourage you.
@@TruTrae I think the build easilly compensates your skill issue. I don't do regular melee anymore. I only use Ninja Skills and Bow. I put everything in dexterity, just enough points to use the kato set and it is okay. Not perfect, but okay. I can do most of the quests above my level now. I am 80 or so, and do lvl 120 story quests. But betweeen lvl 80 and 120 is not that huge difference. My gear is also lvl 120 and i think rushing the story makes sense, because your item level will become much higher this way. And the item level makes a huge difference. Also you get other stuff from the story which makes you stronger. So i think rushing through normal mode to start ng+ is absolutely worth it. I think it is stupid that it makes sense to rush the game to play ng+ as soon as possible, before you even try to level and play "as intended". It is just bad game design.
@@SpaceCowboy94 if I’m being honest I hardly ever pay attention to story in games like these. Stuff like god of war and such I feel the story is more important than the combat. I couldn’t explain the plot of nioh 2 to you if I tried my hardest.
As someone who has played and platinum all the soulslike games Nioh 2 is by far the greatest of them all and mortal shell is the most garbage of them all.
@@slkskate I had a similar experience. I played the game on release, got to maybe the 2nd or 3rd zone, dropped the game, came back after platniuming bloodborne and fell in love with the game
Yes, it absolutely is always good at horizontal sweeps. It is the only stance in the game to HAVE horizontal sweeps as part of the base combo on every weapon. Some low stance options have some horizontal movement, but it is always shorter range and typically also a narrower arc on the hitbox. Even fists have a wider horizontal arc in mid stance than they do in low or high. Some low stance heavies manage to just about meet the mid-stance lights for arc and range, but that's an apples to oranges comparison in the first place. Stance-wise, these are the intended roles, that the base moves of all weapons are built around, and most the stance-specific actives follow this trend as well: High = damage Mid = crowd control Low = evasive
The only problem I have with nioh 2 is that burning out is very easy with the idiotic drop system and numerous difficulties + forever mode. Otherwise, amazing game.
these are all things i can agree with. I wish it got more support with some sort of free update that allowed players to explore the mechanics in a more fun way, but you REALLY gotta love the game and all of its quirks to see it to the very end
Nioh is borderline perfect. After it's combat, nothing else is good enough. Especially souls games. They have spectacle, but crappy gameplay. However, I am actually quite concerned with Rise of Ronin. It looks like a blend of too many things in the wrong direction. The styles seem to be more of the ghost of tsushima variety which is bad. It forces you to be more passive than active. Styles around what enemy you're fighting rather than what you need/want.
I don't think simple means crappy. It is simple but different. I too prefer the way nioh takes on combat, but there's a reason those games do better and it's because it is far easier to understand your mistakes when you died. I also think rise of the ronin is going for a more casual approach of ghost of sushi while also giving you the sauce of Nioh 2. blending these two ideas means it is more for casuals, but lets hope the combat is just as deep in it's own way. it is also easier to just level up enough if you're not good enough at souls games which is actually a method I used when I first played dark souls 3 when it released as I was pretty new to the combat at first. now the game is pretty easy to me, but i didn't always feel that way. Point of me saying this is skill and those things are relative to the player so it is pretty tricky to go so insane in combat to the point that is not overwhelming to someone who might just want the spectacle. Now i get bored with the souls games rather easy so I get where you are coming from, but I think brushing them off as lesser than nioh is a disservice to the games. They are legendary for a reason.
@@Trugrim Oh yeah, crap, I forgot I'm on PC now. I'm gonna have to wait a long time to play RoR anyway. Legendary in this space I feel has more subjectivity than we traditionally give in other disciplines of life. I think the souls games are a product of fantastic marketing more than anything else. The reputation among fans is practically self-sustaining. But that's a much too big discussion for youtube comments. I only brush them off as lesser when it comes to combat. Souls spectacle is A+ undoubtedly, but I wish the rabid fanbase had more standards and awareness to not care about only that. I don't know, this is just an unedited two bits response from me.
@@normalguycap Thoughts are appreciated and makes me ponder the fact that maybe i allowed myself to get brain washed in those regards. Tried to go back and play ds3 and it just felt reallty flat to me, so maybe I agreed with you unconsciously before I even realized myself.
@@Trugrim I appreciated talking with you. I wish I had more to offer. Not enough people, especially online, can be that reflective and self-aware. That's a special quality. Thank you for the interaction. I'll keep learning myself.
Also can’t forget about the cheaters who use the strength pill I know it’s just a game but playing this game for so long and having to work towards every build you built by yourself it hurts my pride seeing cheaters come in and 1 tap every enemy and make them drop like flys. I met one dude in the abyss who hit 999k🤣
Yeah that can get pretty frustrating. I never play online because I like the challenge of comboing each enemy and such, so they can have their fun in their own lobbies. trying to get my cousin in on the game so we can go into the abyss together, but he has a long journey ahead of him before we can get there. Thank you for taking the time to write this comment.
Both hold up exceptionally well and with the exception of some moves and the base mechanics being changed here and there they are fuctionally the same. 2 just being a bit more easy to dive into, but 1 still rocks
If you're looking to brush up or learn new advanced tech there's an hour long video in the description that goes super in depth on tons of fun mechanics. (Dash canceling, sheathe canceling, parry cancel.) really good video to scrub through even if you don't watch the whole thing
@Svartie The game is all about your build once you make a strong tanky build the difficulty becomes easy. RU-vid the builds. Mine is mainly based off magic using lots of Sentience and attacks on my pieces. I haven't played in a while but I spent so much time on crafting and finding the pieces I needed. Its still hard but I beat it on the hardest difficulty destroying enemies pretty easily. If your build sucks even with max level in points you will get 1 shot killed by some bosses.
@Svartie DS3 and ER are WAY harder to me than Nioh 2. I feel like a cripple in these games compared to Nioh 2, seems like all I can do in every single combat scenario is this mind numbingly boring shit of roll-roll-attack-roll-roll-roll and ooops I miss-timed the roll I'm dead. Also combat against multiple enemies in Nioh works great, whereas in Souls games it's always a mess to me.
@@fathiizzan I disagree. I feel like dream of the demon is up is there for you if you enjoy creating builds or saucing on enemies. Enemies with not so big health bars end up dying too quick for you to do anything cool. If you get your build right it doesn’t really matter how big their health bar is if you’re using all aspects of the game like confusion, guardian spirt talisman and the like It’s not a perfect mode and I wish endgame content was cooler than what it was though. Maybe you just got tired of fighting the same stuff which is fair. I honestly have never ran through multiple playthroughs of the game more than a handful of times as this game is kind of a game I have on rotation but I’m never actually playing it consistently because playing the same missions again or doing the same underworld missions is really tedious to me, but when I’m craving good combat I turn it on. Maybe a raid boss mode with friends or something would be cool, as I feel like the coop mechanic kind of breaks the game and makes it far too easy
Only really a problem if you sperg out about it and are studying every single piece of loot obsessively. Otherwise process of dealing with it is pretty fast.
@@Broformist Idk. when managing soul cores and the like navigating the menu is really annoying when you wanna get back to the action. most of the time I enjoy looking through it, but when you gotta navigate different soul cores, soul match end game weapons. disassemble loot it can get annoying.
@@Trugrim When you are not familiar with what soul core does what then yeah, but now I just mass select all cores I don't want to use for resting rites and keep only few so it's a fast process. Disassembling is also easy to me, i sell all blue and below items for amrita, then just select all the rest for disassemble. Soul matching can occasionally get tedious I guess, depends on how often you do it. Most important is to soul match weapon, I don't do it every mission for armor.
Well maybe if it wasn't 60 for the past 4+ years I wouldn't have had to wait so long to play it First sale I've ever seen this game have, got it half price I'm smart and don't pay full price of get games at launch
I got both games on release, but im pretty sure both games were free for ps plus users at some point. kinda hard to get into if you dont have plus and dont have funds but typically i follow the same rule of thumb. paying 60 to 70 bucks for a game most of the time is outrageous but I would pay even more for the game if i am being honest. The dlc is amazng too and from memory it is not that expensive for the amount of cotnent you get.
