Yeah given his history it makes quite a bit of sense why he assumed Nezuko was much the same but I think on some subconscious level he was reminded of his mother which is why he didn’t out right try to kill her. Instead almost testing her: however that may simply be how he fights causing injuries of his own which is much more likely when you look at it, I still would like to think that he hesitated to kill her even if he wasn’t aware of it.

I thought he was an asshole when we first met the guy in episode 21 but I never blamed him when he hurt Nezuko. I saw his reasoning without his backstory revealed because most demon slayers are demon slayers because they had a history with them, whether their family or love ones were killed by them or it was a family tradition. So I was never mad at Shinazugawa, he's an asshole yes but I never blamed him for trying to protect someone he clearly has respect for. The only time I was genuinely mad at Sanemi was when he tried blinding Genya. As an older sibling, I understand the feelings of wanting to protect your younger siblings. However that did not excuse the fact that Sanemi was willing to disable Genya for the rest of his life as long as he was protected. I was so mad when he said Genya wasn't his brother. You don't just say that to your sibling, yes fighting is normal but disowning one's only family because you want to protect them is fucked up.

But Sanemi is the character I relate to the most. He's the same kind of asshole that I am and a shitty elder sibling but the sacrifices that he makes is relatable to me (like not exactly similar, but the sacrifice of doing what is right for the benefit to protect our love ones). I love his character because its one of the only characters I relate to on a personal level. Tanjiro is just my ideal role model for an older sibling but Sanemi is the person I am today.

i feel the introduction of each pillar is meant to give us a bad first impression. Each of them initially wanting Nezuko dead because she's a demon, with Sanemi's and Obanai's being the most openly hostile.

I was thinking of a hypothetical Mark for Kanao where she gets a Mark in the shape of a hand. It would make her think about getting slapped by her parents but then she says “No! Also tanjiro got a “mark” on his forehead, the very part he injured twice, first was seen clearly before the final selection, and the “demon slayer’s mark/mark of the sun,” partially revealed after his injury on his forehead healed.

And gyomei got the mark on his arms where he was punching the living shit out of that demon lmaoo

I think all the marks appear in those areas because they represent sacrifice, wanting to protect at the cost of there own which makes sense especially with the mark killing anyone at the age of 25, great power to protect at the cost of their life.

Most Hashira have a heart of cold. Most conceal it. Kyojiro and Mitsuri are the exceptions. Giyu, Sanemi, Obanai, Muichiro, and to a lesser extent, Gyomei, Tengen and Shinobu all have hearts of gold, but it is not evident at first sight.

He was kicked out by the other children for stealing money, unbeknownst to Gyomei, and he encountered a demon. To save his own life, Kaigaku blew out the wisteria incense that Gyomei lit nightly and let the demon inside to eat the children and Gyomei. It immediately ate 4 children and 3 of the kids ran away from Gyomei, believing that a blind and (previously) skinny caretaker wouldn’t be able to protect them. Only one little girl named Sayo stood by him as Gyomei punched the head of the demon until sunrise. Sayo told the villagers “That man was the monster who killed all the children”. Since the Demon had disintegrated, everyone believed she was speaking about Gyomei. He was sentenced to death but Kagaya rescued him. Now, since Gyomei is blind, he thought everyone abandoned him. It was only until his death that the spirits of the children revealed to him that they were running outside to get farm tools for weapons and to call for help because they wanted to protect Gyomei. He was fearful and distrusting of people for awhile which is why he ended up approving Tanjiro because he was never dishonest even when things were closing in on him. The spirits of the children embraced Gyomei as they were reunited and apologized for everything. Also, Kaigaku became a demon when he encountered Upper Moon 1. He was too weak to fight him so he begged for his life. He was a true coward down to the bone but bullied Zenitsu for his openness of fear of death. He mastered every form besides the first form of Thunder breathing and Zenitsu was the opposite. It drove him mad that he was not going to be the successor of the Thunder Pillar. Because he became a demon, the Thunder Pillar commuted seppuku. However, he had no one to honorably slice his head once he gutted himself. He died a painfully agonizing death. However, Kaigaku didn’t care. He mocked him. He’s all around a shitty guy and I hate him lol he’s one of the few demons, alongside Enmu, that don’t have any redeemable qualities.

I absolutely agree with you. Sanemi is a really great character and he really fulfill his role as a Hashira. He cares for his brother to the point he doesn't want Genya to become a demon slayer so he can have a normal life instead. His family story is just emotional and the only thing he can do is become tough and get stronger to conquer his fears of losing his loved ones. He's not the type to freely express his feelings but he totally cares about the wellbeing of his companions.

After being called a murderer by his brother he protected he literally lost his mind.

How are they both same Nezuko didn't eat any of her family members while sanemi's mother did and he had to kill her too can't imagine a sane mindset after that and even after that he's called a murderer by his own brother For me, sanemi had it worse he had no support,no friends in the start of his journey

I doubt it since gyomei died too. And it seems like all the hashira knew that the mark could kill them eventually and did it anyway. At least thats what it seemed like to me.

@@Bamboo139 Gyomei had a variety of factors leading to his death, it’s most likely the strain of the mark combined with his massive blood loss. While I don’t think Giyu and Sanemi lived a full life, I definitely think they made it to at least 30

@@titantrainer592 personally, the authors whole shtick was about sacrifice so unfortunately I don’t think giyu, sanemi, and tanjiro had a full life. But it would be nice if they did live longer than 25.
