I love beech trees, they’re my favourite..however my partner, who is a tree surgeon calls them the “widow maker”’ as they have the ability to look perfectly healthy but can drop the most enormous branches without warning…not a great one to camp underneath. Still love their beauty though 💕
6:10 Woah! I didn`t know that we got the word book from the beech tree but I always joked about how in German the tree (Buche) almost sounds like book (Buch). Now I know it`s not a coincidence!
Very nice but a bit anthropocentric. No consideration at all as to how the beech tree germinates. Do the nuts open on the branch? Do the seeds need to be eaten by rodents and birds in order to reproduce in their droppings? The huge carpet of nuts found under the tree is presumably not intended to reproduce as it gets the same spring smothering of late-dropping leaves that is characteristic of beech.
Thanks for the knowledge and more. May I suggest a small clip mic? It's hard to hear your voice at times because your turning away from the camera and/or far, and you have a soft voice. I turn my cell fully up but still need CC. Same with turning up the TV but not too much so that the commercials and the theme song don't blast.
When you talked about the flowers and that both male and female flowers grow on the same tree that is common but did you know the key word for that is "monoecious" and then you have trees that are "doecious" which means that male and female flowers are found on separate trees and some trees are "hermaphrodite" meaning that both male and female reproductive organs are found in the same tree.
This is the best information I have seen on beech trees. I always wondered why I only found a few of them each year. I hope it is a mast year in the united states also.
@@homeiswhereourheartis I will be looking 😁 its mainly yew ash oak and hazel here but there is few others like elder Hawthorn etc so maybe there could be some beech🙃🙃
I loved this episode, I'll post a picture on you fb page of a magnificent copper beech my friends have, we call it the lovers tree as two trees intertwined to become one, it's my favourite place to be 💜
BOSS video lad Better than any mainstream by miles Infact I don't even throw your name in with that lot, Grand ending with in perfect harmony Blessings 🍀
Thank you so much--I just discovered you, I have a beech tree growing in my backyard (Plattsburgh, NY) and as far as I know, it is the only one in my neighborhood. Its girth 3.657 meetrs!! Calculating its age I found it was 350 years old--but that's hard to believe. I live on what was formerly a US airforce base and am amazed that the tree (whatever its actual age) was preserved when building base housing. I was especially pleased to find out that the leaves are edible in early spring and that the nuts are also edible. I wish you luck in all of your edeavors.
Omg what a super video. I love and adore the beech, i have favourite ones dotted around Bedgebury that I love to visit I do know they randomly drop branches and oh boy do they! I have planted loads on my land I can’t think of a season when they are not gorgeous. But the info you’ve given in this video is fantastic….Thank You 🎉❤
Oh dear. You must invest in a decent microphone. Your videos are such a joy to watch but the sound quality lets you down. If you have friends who blog, ask them which microphone they use for outdoor videos. Maybe get a Go-Pro?
It's a confusing thing we're trying figure out. Some devices we're loud and clear others quite. This is our 3rd new microphone that cost £70! 😱 It's a famous microphone too so might be an issue with our editing software. We'll have to keep brainstorming why it is 🙂
@@mirandaandrea8215 Thank you Miranda I appreciate you letting me know 😁 these videos are so hard to make I'm glad it seems to be a rare few that this audio thing happens too! ✌️🙂
I am so glad I have found this channel! The internet can be such a bleak place but not over here.. I can’t wait to get stuck into the rest of your videos, thank you!
