This is the van that started it all.
Back in 2018 I bought this van to do a self build project.
A rock and bed and some cheap eBay furniture got fitted and we went camping.
With a very basic set up we first went camping at a local show, then decide to take it up a notch and head out to europe.
We toured through 5 countries and it was amazing. I was hooked and more importantly Wendy my wife also enjoyed the whole experience.
Once we were back I made some plans to remove the interior and start again, with an idea in my head how I wanted it to look.
A poptop was fitted with help from an existing converter and some sketches sent over to a CNC machining company who helped create the furniture.
I completely stripped the interior including the dashboard and door cards and had these flocked in light grey, this gives a soft suede/velvet look and feel. It’s normally used in motorsport because the flocked surface creates no reflection so drivers don’t distracted in different light conditions and glare through the reflection of the dash board on the windscreen.
The seats and rock & roll bed were trimmed by a local specialist in grey leather and O.E style centres, lose the van and never see it again. Again some amazing luck and a great new owner came along called Richard.
Richard is here with me today as we chat about #001 and its design and how it lead us to the very beginning of DCD Transporters.
Thanks go out to the following
Richard Arnold for bringing DCD 001 and spending the day with us in Suffolk.
Richard Hedges for the photography, video and editing.
Rougham estates for the location use.
