Many Christians describe Jesus' death as the moment he crushed satan's head. Paul told us that the Lord would crush the serpent under our feet. The man who cut off the head of that satan statue is keeping a Biblical tradition.

Also, theologically speaking there is such concept of fighting demons in Christianity so, beheading the statue is legal standard practice of Christian faith.

The US government doesn't "recognize churches". What the US government does is recognize specific non-profit organizations that have to prove their non-profit status. sharing a double standard here, we paid for private education and the new leadership declined putting up a Christmas tree for no specific reason, when asked no answer could be provided except trying not to promote any religion, irony is when Saint Valentines and Saint Patrick day came the hallways were filled with decorations and celebrations were held for the children. I asked the director of the program how this made sense with the history of both originated from Christianity - sadly it couldn’t be answered...

An interesting aspect regarding the establishment of religion in the Constitution is that it only says "Congress" may not make any law regarding the establishment of it. This implies that the Executive and Judicial Branches of the Federal government *may* make decisions regarding religion. It also implies that state governments are perfectly within their rights to make laws regarding the establishment of religion (assuming that they don't have amendments forbidding it in their own state constitutions).

As an artist, I especially don't believe in tearing down statues and monuments. I think orthodoxy is muscular enough to stand up to satanism on the merits of its iconography alone.

The ability to survive mockery wholly unflinching is what makes Orthodox Christianity the true religion. Any belief that can be undone with a few cheap jabs is a hollow belief. Our faith is the true faith because someone can take stabs at the priesthood and the bishops and we can laugh along with them before going to mass and celebrating the resurrection of Christ. I think what I struggle with in this argument is that you could potentially have a theistic Satanist movement that did hold genuine religious beliefs (but wasn't offensive enough to be excluded by the state), such as maybe theistic Luciferianism. In that case, they ARE a religion, but also an inherently reactionary religion. I'm not really sure what the state's answer ought to be there. I still think an individual citizen's answer should be to dismantle the blasphemous display, though.

Your example is actually a good argument for why no religious symbols should be displayed in public settings (IE tax payer funded buildings). first off if you exclude one (and I'm in full agreement that Satanism isn't a religion its a way to mock others faith) means for any reason an other group can can decide that an other faith is equally unworthy of the title of real religion. There are plenty of people in the US with strong anti catholic sentiments from neo n*zis toe leftists who've beheaded our statues in our own private spaces. should they be allowed to refuse a catholic group from displaying in like say a st Patricks day parade? From the perspective of a christian (who obviosly doesn't want to get mocked), your critizism is totally understandable. This clearly is a mockery and the satanic temple isn't a religion in the original sense. From an atheist perspective: Sure, it's all just a mockery of christianity, but why should it be disallowed to put up mockery-statues? If these people don't belief in any supernatural beings and also belief that mocking religions is a good thing, why should that belief have inferior rights of expression, compared to a belief that does contain supernatural elements (i.e. a belief that is religious)? This whole satanist organisation is essentially one big carricature. But that's not a bad thing. Carricatures have always been an important form of political, ideological and in this instance even religious expression. If you disagree with a carricature, don't try to surpress it, mock back instead!

Lets understand the reason why the statue was put up in the first place was to make a statement about that second reason. if one religion is allowed (ie Christianity.) at a state capital then all religions should be allowed no special treatment for just one. If Christians don't want other religious statues in state capitals then theirs should not be there either. This issues is that simple.

Consider this. If one were to behead or destroy a famous idol of Christ, how would Christians respond? Would they all say "well I guess we should all stop worshipping Jesus, these guys seem to not want us too." All this does is bolster the faith (or faithlessness depending on your point of view) of the ideology you oppose. Counterproductive and nothing to celebrate.

I think you're missing the point of this. The Satanic Temple doesn't just put up satanic statues in random places, they specifically respond to Christian displays on PUBLIC and GOVERNMENT property. No favoritism towards any religious should be made on an level in a serious government, and if one is then all religions must be allowed to have that privilege. It doesn't matter if the displays contradict each other, either no religious displays or all of them, you don't get to have special treatment just because you feel your religion is special. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

One issue with the analogy, The Satanic Temple was determined by the supreme court to be a religion. Specifically because the court saw religion and an ethical system as pretty much indistinguishable. So thus the Humanism presented theough the 7 tenets of The Satanic Temple have been legally determined as religious. This Bureaucracism idea would obviously not pass the courts as it doesn't have any coherent moral view. I'm curious why you disregard them because of the fact they mock exactly? At the start you mention a view that the state shouldn't have any religious preference, and this is partially what The Satanic Temple believes. They use their status as a religion, to make a point about all or nothing when it comes to religion. Either they should also be allowed to put up a religiously motivated statue, or no one should. Additionally, the reason why they don't mock minority religions is because, what good would that do in their goals exactly? They are doing things within a US context and the US gives special treatment to Christians primarily, hence why that is their target. Additionally, is them using the symbols of Satan not at least culturally mocking other Abrahamic groups anyway? Of course as I explained they don't go out of their way to, but I still think the implicit criticism is there. Also damn I wrote a lot lol.
