Thanks very much for taking time to make this in depth analysis video for my series. It's always heartwarming to know how much my hobby has inspired people over the years. I hope everyone looks forward to what I have in store in the future. 😁
Probably heard this from countless others, but truly thank you for everything you've done! Sure as all heck as done much to spur on the imagination. Thanks again!
The fact that we have a licensed Sonic comic that references this series with Mecha Sonic screaming "I'LL CRUSH YOU!!" Speaks volumes to the level of talent and passion shown :D
I love that Vinny transition. But in all seriousness, I binged the hell out of this series and have followed the reboot since it was first announced. Some of the best fan work out there and I hope despite all it's ups and downs, Mark can make a complete story he's happy with.
Good lord, I remember back in middle school my friends and I chilling in the back on the classroom during class and watching SMBZ and playing other Flash games on New grounds. I still rewatch the O.G run and the reboot here and there because it's just that enjoyable.
I remember me when i was 7 years old but dont understand English and i saw i can have subtiles in French 🤩..Now with remake, i'm gonna be ready to see how he become better in animation. Also some fan of the serie make their own serie like Super Mario DX. And thank you for this vid 👋😀
Just stumbled upon your channel! Nice amazing well tribute review to SMBZ!!!!!! You earned an new subscriber from me! Keep up the amazing tribute review work!!!!!
It is like DBZ but with better character usage and more thought put into things other than just the fights. The narrative doesn't devolve into "only the hedgehogs matter" or "only the mario bros. matter." No. Mario, Sonic, Shadow, Luigi, and Yoshi *ALL* matter. They're a consistent team with solid characterization. No character is thrown away because they weren't born as the "correct race". There's no rigid power hierarchy between them because there simply doesn't need to be one. Again, they're a *team.* And hell, these guys and the supporting cast can carry an episode or 2 straight; there doesn't even need to be a fight every episode. The only "letdown" character-wise is Mecha Sonic. He's a cliche, one-dimensional, predictable villain. His only claim to fame is his ability to consistently insight fear, which will most definitely get old if it remains his only recognizable trait. However, .... whatever. I put "letdown" in quotes because he's still a serviceable villain. Not every bad guy needs to have a compelling characterization.
Rant (sorry): I am really starting to hate Nintendo. Not gonna buy the Switch 2, no chance. What is their problem?? Acting like fan content is their downfall, when it would probably just support them further. Poor, poor multimillion dollar company oh woo woo cry about it. Nintendo and Sonic were my childhood. I love the Mario, Kirby and Pokemon franchise in particular, but sometimes I just wish for their downfall, just so they might be motivated to change their ways or "die" from stupidity. Idgaf how Nintendo is justifying this, they are (were) internationally loved and the whole world took part in making Nintendo this damn rich, they should show some love towards the fans. Something Sega does much better, if only their games were better, too. That would be a 10/10.
SMBZ is such an amazing show. The fact that it was all done by one guy is just mind blowing. Mark Haynes has truly been an inspiration to the sprite community.
lol underrated... its one of the most well known fan series Side by Side with Chakra X's Sonic: Nazo Unleashed. Every fan animation since have been a love note to those two.
@@Zicetec2000 Sorry, I always say underrated when I always see something good it wasn’t the right word to use so I’ll correct myself. SMBZ is such a good series and it deserved the attention and success.
2:22 I have to appreciate that when you spoke about fan continuations, you used footage from Mark's preview of episode 9 that doesn't appear to be on any of his accounts anymore.
I remember checking out Newgrounds in 2009 when I was a little kid, and finding this channel on RU-vid. His work influenced my taste, and I appreciate his work.
I never actually got into SMBZ, but I've been obsessed with a series inspired by it for around 10 years now, SMBHOTS. Honestly both it and SMBZ are extremely underrated, I wish the whole genre of sprite-animated Mario content got more love.
I remember how these kinds of animations inspired me to make my own sprite animations back in 2012-2019. Without a (non-school) computer, the best I could do was sub par skits on Scratch. I rewatched the SMBZ series this month, and the FIRST thing I did was upgrade my character sprites. Thank you, Mark Haynes.
*cons* Princess Peach being reduced to a damsel in distress (and Daisy having no presence in the series) It doesn't have a proper ending *pros* Everything else (and boy, do I mean it)
I love how much Alvin-Earthworm keep going, even after the previous moments in the past. really find him keep on going 10/10 But let's all give him just the time, and do not ask when new one.. it could be for you first said but there will be tons more.. Great of a return classic.
