The Griptilian was the best gift idea for my dad. The idea of paying ~$140 for a pocket knife would have always been insane to him, but after having one and getting used to the blade quality and the mechanism, he's bought at least two more since then (always having at least one on backup).
I had a Griptilian for about 10 years and I never liked it or carried it. Just discovered the Applied Weapons Technology scales and bought and installed them now it’s my favorite knife.
A set of aftermarket scales really wakes up the gripTilian and then there’s always the factory offerings of the G10 or the carbon fiber exclusives. The sheepsfoot is my favorite blade shape and love having the deployment hole although I do wish they would bring back the Hollow grind and do it in the S30V.
The Griptilian is a knife everyone should own. Is it the most high end? No. But I have never been able to put a knife through so much abuse and have it work flawlessly like I have the Griptilian. Out of the thousands of dollars of knives in my collection, the Griptilian is still by far my favorite
Dude that is awesome. It is an iconic design that has and will continue to be around because it is so good. I really wish they would offer more steel options like Spyderco does with the PM2. That would be epic.
@@dtomknivesandgear6635 same here. I think they do, but only if you sell your kidneys to their custom knife builder. Even then I think the only different steel you can get is M4
Totally agree. I have had many striders, some hinderers, i still have several sebenzas, not to mention dozens of paramilitaries in all the variations, ZTs, microtechs, at least a dozen Emersons.... My fifteen year old 154cm griptilian is still my carry knife.
Got a custom mini griptilian, desert tan and satin with the sheepsfoot blade. Slick as hell. I've liked it so much I'm on the brink of buying the exact same setup in the full size. Such a great knife.
just bought the mini grip. Haven't received it yet- I am replacing a 530 pardue lightweight axis with the spear point blade. My sister found it in a taxi at her college nearly 10 years ago and sadly I lost it an uber about a year back. Sad to have lost it but happy for whomever gets to have it next, the universe brought it to me and now has brought it to someone else who must need it more. For now, the mini griptilian should be perfect for my edc. I wear basketball shorts nearly every day so the lighter and thinner profiled knives are best for me. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching brother. That is a cool story. I love hearing stuff like that. If you wear basketball shorts a lot the mini should be a perfect EDC. I would also look at the Bugout. It is super lightweight.

It will most likely end up on my future buy list.. i actually got the mini grip because it was 100 and decided to get a leatherman squirt to add to the edc system as well. After buying moraknivs for camping i guess my expectations of knives are that they should be cheap and bullet proof but im realizing that folders are much more intricate and most of the time you get what you pay for
@@theirishbear_osrs That is true. However there are some great budget knives out there. You could not buy Ontario Rat 1. I love that thing $40. It is a big boy though. Lol
@@dtomknivesandgear6635 Ive been seeing the Rat everywhere! It looks like a favorite and under 50 is right up my alley! I live in california though so the problem i find is that no matter how handy or necessary it seems to use my knife, I get weird reactions from colleagues and strangers. That's kind of what has stopped me from getting any sort of 'self defense' knife. Kind of sucks but I am afraid of someone feeling intimidated by a large blade when not in a self defense situation. Ridiculous i know but it is what it is!
had a orange handle black blade for 2 years lost it at work now i have a tan handle black blade had it for 5 years. had to replace the pivot screw because it backed out other than that its perfect
I've had my Griptilian in 154CM for around 8 years now, its still going strong with zero maintenance! I've batoned it, used it as a screwdriver, and overall abused the thing and ive never even had to disassemble it. its been full of beach sand, grit, and lint and it just keeps truckin like normal. I'm ordering another one in S30V soon, I was going to mod this one but it has done its job well and i feel like id rather leave it as is since it was my first pocke knife that wasnt a case knife. I have a full size bugout and still prefer the griptilian over the bugout hands down. Benchmade is doing away with all the colorways except the Satin blade with Black Scales, I called and asked because I wanted the Black/OD combo but couldnt find it anywhere online.
Cabela's / Bass Pro has an Exclusive version with D2 steel, desert tan handle & a "honey comb" jimping pattern on the handle, seen on no other model. It's pretty sweet. I still have 154CM Olive one & several others. They are *still* great knives in '22
Here it is 2022 and I just bought a 550. I used to avoid them, thought they were too bulky, plasticy, and ugly. Suddenly in like one day my mind changed. Now I love them, go figure.
Yes the mini is super light. But unlike the bugout, the mini grip with the plastic handles can be beat. trust me. I have not been nice to mine. it's had a pretty bad life, but it looks and cuts like new...
I just wish they kept the hollow grind on the newer models. As it stands the Super Freek is just so much better in pretty much every way. If they made a Super Freek sheepsfoot with a hole I would be all over it 🔥🔥🔥
The Griptilian is simply a classic that can take a beating! It’s a better knife than the bugout in every way. I just don’t understand the hype with the bugout….thin blade and flexy handles….just feels weak 🤮. Griptilian is a LION among sheep!
At the 2 minute mark I did stop your video. What you had said earlier about the cheap plastic feel.....I totally agree. I had mine for awhile and let a few people check it out. They said exactly what I noticed...a great blade that was actually easy to pocket carry.. yeas it was more than I thought it should have been, I now think it was worth it I no longer have the knife, but that's another story. I'd really like to get another one cause I actually miss it!
Great vid. I was ready to pull the trigger on a Griptillian but then found the Ritter Houge RSK. I'm also waiting for the Manix 2 Lightweight with Rex 45 and burnt orange scales to drop. That's 3 knives I want and only the $$ for one.
I own both the full size and the mini but my full size it in the g-10 with the drop point and my mini has the g-10 and thumb hole and I absolutely love them I carry my mini if I wear shorts and my full size during jean season so I absolutely love them even let my dad carry it and my mom for Father’s Day bought him the same one I have so amazing knife

good video man. I like the large grip. I have a small for my son. he's only 6 so he has to wait for it tho. I've been carrying a hogue Ritter for a few months now. I think it's the better quality knives next to the benchmade. new sub here.
@@dtomknivesandgear6635 I live in Rhode Island, I can open carry alot of large blades, yet it brings unwanted attention. Why i love the axis lock of Benchmade. Considered a manual, but much more dependable than an automatic. ( which is illegal as well as OTF )

Hate those plastic handles as well, goodness gracious I just can't get over it! Talked about it in my review. Wanting to check out the g10 model especially cause of that 20CV, edge retention for DAYZZZZ
The mini Grips aren’t so bad with the plastic handles because they have full liners they are much more substantial in the hand. But I prefer to swap handle scales on all of my knives anyway. The Flytanium titanium handles scales and AWT aluminum scales really transform both Grips
That is a question for an expert and I am not one. Lol All blade shapes do better for some task but I think it just comes down to preference. They will all do the EDC task we do daily.

Sorry but nothing in Spyderco is anywhere close to Benchmade quality. You are comparing a toyota prius to a mercedes benz. W T F I still have both of my Benchmades that were issued to me in the military now 24 years later, and they still go with me as EDC each and every day I leave the house. Should anything ever go wrong on them, the lifetime guarantee is all I need to know about that I can send the knife back to Benchmade and they will fix it back to brand new as necessary. Spyderco on the other hand, is the type of knives I expect to find in Walmarts or gas stations.
@@stevenhorton83 I would suggest looking at some Kershaw knives. They have some great options with the speed safe which is assisted opening. ZT is another one. Same company but the more premium brand.
