Trailer for the DVD which surveys all 12 routes operated by the Mercedes-Benz Citaro articulated bus between 2002 and 2011. DVD available from www.bhtransportdvds.co.uk.
I liked them too, there are very few bendybuses left in the UK now, Aberdeen and Brighton are still using ex London ones, although not for much longer I would think.
i do miss the bendy buses. When the bendy buses was withdrawn from the route 73, the northern section of the route was also withdrawn between seven Sisters and stoke Newington
Memories man! I don’t remember the 73 coming down that way to terminate at seven sisters tho🤔 Theres no curtailment point so im guessing it probably went to the Tottenham garage
Boris Johnson became Mayor of London and he decided to get rid of them as he didn't like them, he thought they were dangerous and not suited to the streets of London.
@@jorgefigueroa4437 I agree too, he'd better be kicked out at the next election (sadly I'll still be 17, and I'm more likely to win the lottery without buying a ticket than have this government give 16 year olds the vvote
I liked bendy buses, they work perfectly well in other countries so why not in the UK, their demise was down to one man - Boris and we all know how that turned out!
We have bendy buses in Sydney too - and yes, they are ridiculous. They hog road space while carrying fewer people than some double decker buses. There is a trial on now of returning double decker buses to the streets of Sydney and if successful, we'll be going the same way as London and replacing the bendy bus.
Bendy buses carry significantly more ppl than double deckers and the extra space they take up per person is miniscule, a dbl decker carries about 80 or 90, whereas a bendy bus carries about 130 to 160 (they have fewer seats, but much more standing space because on a double decker, the stairs take up a lot of space and you can't stand on the top level) besides, you can't criticize ANY bus for hogging up road space - cars are the most insane waste of space you could imagine in a city
Well, Ken Livingstone was mayor of London when these buses were introduced, One of Boris Johnson's election pledges when he stood for mayor of London in 2008 was to get rid of the bendybuses.
Drove lots of buses but these are stupid unless you have lots of space, mad decision in London but then idiots make the decisions, double decker carries the same but half the length, how many in I know apart from airports ☹️
You may wish to hold off on calling something stupid unless you know what you're talking about. An articulated Mercedes-Benz Citaro G holds 40 sitting and 117 standing (157 people in total)[1]. A Wright Eclipse Gemini, the sort of double decker you see in London nowadays, holds 66 sitting and 27 standing. (93 people in total)[2]. So an articulated holds about 1.5 times as many passengers as a double-decker. It loads faster (because people are closer to the doors), and costs less to run (lower labour and maintenance costs), and uses road space nearly as efficiently.
