Thrift stores are a great source for slips. Vinitage clothing sellers may have them in stock depending on their focus/capacity and online they are definitely sold. Because they are such a common items they arent (generally) seen as something that needs to be preserved. Any museum focused on such things can get them as well collectors who focus on preserving so you can buy pieces for your everyday wear without feeling guilt. If the piece has some staining or is generally just looking a bit old dying it can make all the difference. You just have to make sure you use the right kind of dye for the material. If its not a perfect fit or needs some repairs keep in mind that slips probably already old and still held up so its worth investing the money to get it fitted/repaired. Unlike most modern clothing there is a much smaller chance of it just falling apart in a few years time.
I’m 21, I just bought my first slip and half-slip. But my mom (born 1969) always taught me to wear at least shorts under skirts and to wear tights/stockings with dresses. It really puts the whole look together as opposed to nothing.
I used to shop at the mall years ago. All of my dresses and skirts had linings sew in. Now I’m noticing that they often don’t. Seems I need to purchase some slips. It feels like the clothing needs to be made better and we shouldn’t need an added layer.. but that’s my opinion. I’ll be more aware next time I purchase any dresses or skirts. Must for a lining. ✅

This is good to know. I remember when I was little, my mom made me wear slips. I always have a hard time with tights and skirts and now I know what to do. I think we've lost those small details when dressing. I want to add, they make slip shorts too.
Thank you for your video. You have such a lovely air of elegance about you. I’m 32 and have just purchased my first slip and half slip made from silk jersey. It’s worth the investment I’m sure. The main reason I bought it was also because I have always been disappointed with the lining of most skirts today. I don’t like the feel of synthetic fabric on my skin, particularly polyester.

This video helped me a lot. I have had almost all of these problems and i did not know that slips helped with these problems. Our generation has no clue what slips are sadly, i didnt even know myself. I am definitely going to invest in some.

5:35 if your having issues with clothing gaping between wide set buttons and arent willing to stitch it shut another option is to sew snaps in place between the buttons. As they are inside they wont be seen once everything is close so it won't affect the look of the garment but it gives you a little extra security and will help keep things smooth.
About 6 years ago I was at physical therapy. The therapist had me use the rowing machine. My skirt got caught in the machine, and though it had a slip sewn into it I still wore a separate slip. The rowing machine was in a large room with other equipment and there was a man there. I had to take slip out of my skirt right then and there, and because I had a longer under slip on it saved me from exposing the lower half of my body and from too much embarrassment. I found humor in it and the physical therapist got my skirt unstuck from the rowing machine without damaging it. I guess it’s another good reason to wear an under slip. LOL!
YES to all❣️I’m definitely sending this to my girlfriend, she thinks I’m old fashion because I wear my slips. Besides all the facts you talked about, I just think they are pretty (at least the ones I like to wear) and it gives me a little extra feeling of femininity when I know I have something pretty on underneath. I'm from the Caribbean but grew up in the U.S. I was so shocked the first time I realized that American women don't really wear slips anymore. I've had so many conversations with other women, explaining all the reasons you mentioned. But when it really became an issues was when I working in the Caribbean countryside with other Americans, and the locals would ask me why such and such lady was wearing a see-through dress (long summer dresses, in the Caribbean sunshine) with no slip on. I had to let some folks know they were being offensive and suggest they buy some slips.

My mother used to say foundation garments are everything. She was born in 1930’s therefore coming of age in the 1950’s, she would wear an hourglass shaped corset and a pretty full length slip over it right up to when she was well into her 70’s. I rebelled against this of course but now I do find the benefit of slip wearing.
Thank you for this video. I remember wearing slips when I was a kid and maybe in my early teens. I think I stopped wearing them around colleges. I work in college counseling now and have gotten flashed more times than I care to count but said with no judgment lol Question--I have dresses: maxi dresses, wrap dresses ectra that fit, but I have no waist and ZERO hips. So a belly, small breasts, no hips. I'd like to add some volume to the dress (s) so that it gives the illusion of a shape and a bit of poof. Would a slip be able to do that and if so what type? I've seen petticoats but there are for formal/wedding events. I want to be comfortable and be able to sit for everyday wear. 🙂

If you have NO waist, NO hips, and a bit of a belly, welcome to the problem most men have wearing dresses. I'd suggest a good set of hip pads (hip / butt "panties" are a big selling item, inexpensive, and relatively comfortable). A corset (waist cinching) is probably overkill, and (incredibly realistic) silicone breastplates are absurdly expensive and uncomfortable. Fluffy petticoats work brilliantly under A-line skirts, why be hung up on someone else's definition of what a formal or wedding event is??
I went looking for a slip to wear under a white dress. I finally found one but don't like how it wears. The top is dsign to wear the opposite way. It feels like it is climbing up my neck. I have a half slip, but with a dress, I needed a full-length one.
I think they're hard to find. The last first length slip I got came from Amazon but I need more. I would go back there to get the next one. A good full length slip is hard to find in a regular store these days.
What type of fabric should I be looking for in a slip? I noticed some are nylon, others are polyester. (Ugh) I’d prefer a “breathable” slip because I live in a warm state. Any advice?
Most of mine are nylon and they're breathable. One of my full slips is mostly polyester and it's breathable too but I think nylon is my preference. I hope that helps. :)

I notice a slip prevents a problem I see occassionally, a woman wearing a gathered/full skirt stands up after sitting and her dress gets stuck in the cleavage between her buttocks. Usually it's apparent the woman is unaware of this because, of course, she cannot see her own back side. A slip prevents that completely!
I’m 61 years old and only wear modest dresses and skirts (as well as non revealing shirts/blouses) and I’ve ALWAYS worn under slips. Even with skirts that supposedly have slips sewn into them I still wear a slip because the ones with the skirts are too short for my taste. I wear slips so no one can see through my garment. I’ll wear a tank style tops that are dressy under blouses or shirt that are sheer. There’s something called Static Cling, which is a spray in a can, that is supposed to help slips not cling to the body. I’ve never had that happen before but I do have a can of Static Cling just in case.😊
I've been wearing slips since I used to wear my mothers petticoats when the family was out & that is over 50 years. It is a shame that women do not wear them so much now. My wife was a slip wearer & I used to wear hers-they are such a femining garment.
Funny I just came across your video. I just went to Walmart this week cuz I needed a half slip. After searching around I finally asked and she said no we don't carry slips anymore. Just body suits 😲 I always could go to walmart and find slips. I think that's interesting though, we have more fat people nowadays 😂
Wow! No slips at Walmart...just wow. I managed to find a few at Kohl's but they are so short. My best slips were handed down to me from my mother and grandmother. If people aren't too particular, I think a thrift store/consignment shop might be a good option. I haven't tried there but I would consider it.

hooray! someone who advocates slips.I think slips are the ultimate female garment.All of your points are true.sometimes I might like to see a panty line,but i'd rather see a slip under a sheer dress.maybe see some lace thru the dress or if a girl is really looking for some attention let just a peek of a lacy slip show below the hemline.I love them.I'm 73 & sex is not a big thing in my life anymore,but I still get a little thrill when i get a peek at a lovely slip.

Half slips are from the waist down and full slips hang over the shoulder with a very thin strap and go all the way down to the leg. The short full slips stop a little above the knee and the longer ones go to about the calf area.
I want better quality ones myself but I found a few at Kohl’s and Target. I was given a few “vintage” slips and those are my favorite. I haven’t been able to find anything of real quality still unfortunately.
