I'm a medical doctor that would love to work for the UN. Any specific advice regarding this?
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller 2 года назад
Hello, nothing more than looking at the jobs they have in the medical field, not just at WHO, but other organizations that might need an MD and see if your profile and your experience match. If it does, you can apply and see if they select you for an interview.

Hello there! Amazing video. I would like to know how to get from one step to another. For example to go from P1 Step 1 to P1 Step 2 and so on... Thank You!
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
Thanks. You automatically increase one step every year of your employment until you reach step 10 or max out at 13. At step 10, you will increase every two years instead of one. You can increase every 10 months, if you are a GS staff and know 2 official UN language and completed the certification. I hope that answered your question.

Could you please make a video about the consultant mission and short-term contract at UN? PS. Working at the UN is not a good option for one who wants to have permanent residency at the country of the duty station. Waiting for your next video. Many thanks for your great work!
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
You are right, I should do that and I will next week.

Mario r the tickets for paid home leave business class or economy if business class so r they for all levels or p3 above ?
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
When travelling, the tickets for the appointment and your job are business class if you travel for more than 9 hours. But, house leave is economy if the organization books it and fully fare economy when you take the money instead. Which is about the amount you can buy a business ticket for, if you shop around and book on the right day.

question on average how long does it take to get a p4 level job after applying
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller 2 года назад
Hello, assuming you are short listed, it can take up to 3 months to be invited to take a test, 2 months more to be called for interview if you are selected. Then 1-3 months for the job offer. Of course, it could a lot faster or just never happen if the job is canceled

Please will i get a job offer as a social worker?
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
Look at the work offered on UN Careers and see if any mtch your education and experience. You get a job offer if you did good in the interviews and that interviewers think you will be a good condidate for the job. It is all about matching experience with job descriptions.

Hi. This very interesting. I don't see any duty station for Manila, Philippines in inpsira app but we have UN Ph here. Do we get the same salary and benefits if we work here in UN Ph locally? thanks
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
There are a lot. But, I think that WHO-WPRO Manila is not on inspira, but on the WHO website. If you are Filipino, you can get G salary.

Hi ...do you have any idea how much the rental subsidy usually is?
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
Hello, yes I do. It is complex and it depends on the country. Normally, it is about 60 % of the rent for the first 5 years. In B and C stations, it will be 60 % but forever. It also depends on your level. Like a P5 might have only 40%. But, my initial amount of 60 % is about right for most cases. Basically, you will have a minimum of maybe 2,000$ to pay and the UN will pay 80 % of everything after that until the cap. Which should be about 5,000$. So, overall, again, about 60%

@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
Hello, About 90 % of all the jobs at the UN are on the UN Career site. Just take a look at what is in your field and you will see if there is anything you can apply for when you get your diplomat. Good luck. careers.un.org/lbw/home.aspx?viewtype=VP&PID=167&lang=en-US&gclid=Cj0KCQiAvqGcBhCJARIsAFQ5ke7Fc9d4T_eQ4ouA3cO5IXINVz-WTc-1flbglTo2RhAvV13ahuVbugsaAtNSEALw_wcB

Hi Mario, Just yesterday (June 22) I came across your videos on how to get a job at the UN. Thanks for the content, this is extremely helpful. I am currently preparing an application and I was wondering if you could assist me clarifying three points in it. I thank you in advance for that. 1. I have 7 months experience as a peacekeeper at the MINUSTAH and in the "Employment status and history in the UN system and related organizations" form, I always add this experience, but I am not sure which department I should add this under. I always add it under UNS. Which one do you think would be a better suit for this? 2. Under the "completed non-UN certificates", what kind of certificates do you suggest I add, if any? 3. In the "attachments" form, at the end of the application, I added my university/high school diplomas, and the UN ID I used at the MINUSTAH. Do you think I should add something else or maybe even change what I am doing right now? Once more, thank you so much for taking the time to answer to this.
@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
Hello, 1. If the information is relevent for the job, you should add it. The problem is knowing that add or remove from your profile. I have a friend in NY that liked to see stuff like "Worked at McDonards as a teenager." Well, to him, it shows you can work in a team and under stress. Because he knows, he did that as a teenager. But, you can't know that, so I would go with the direct connection to the job. 2. Again, stuff that is relevant to the job, unless you have none, so I would add what you have. If you have a LOT, take 2-3 max. 3. I would remove the high-school degree and keep only the highest completed degree. Attachment can he read or not. They will just look at it for a second each. Unless you have too many, it shouildn't matter. I hope that helps.

Hi Mario, it absolutely helped, thank you. In regards to the peacekeeping experience, since I was only seconded through the military to the MINUSTAH for 6 months, I don’t add this as “have worked for the UN system” correct? Because I was not a UN staff member if I am not mistaken. I observed that if I say I worked for the UN system, they request my UN index number, which I never had. I would only mention this experience in the job requirement questions and as part of my experience with my home country military?
