Such a rich sound! My father had a Gibson from the 60's when I would visit him in the summer I would listen to him play for hours. He taught me my first cords on that particular guitar. This guitar reminds me of that Gibson. I now own over 50 high end guitars myself, and I would trade them all to have my fathers guitar! Thank you for those bringing me back to those memories!
The Dove sounds fantastic. Your friend did an awesome job with the repairs. It makes me happy knowing it's in the hands of such a fine caretaker. Well done.
Hey man it was worth the wait, that is one heavenly sounding guitar, and oh so beautiful, you play it so wonderfully just awesome, God bless you man 🙏🏻❤from🇬🇧
Us DIY electric guitar home based hobbyist really meet our match when it comes to acoustic guitar repairs.... absolutely sure there are many gifted people who do it for fun but such a craftsmanship to acoustic guitar repairs. I like the choices you made for the guitar to suite your needs ...always tasteful
Think it sounds great, would I play it? Lol.....it was actually in my watch list on Reverb...I do many deals with Dave and Tylor at Dave's Guitar Shop so if it had been there much longer you might not have ended up with it! Hahaha
this nice old Gibson sounds very beautiful, I listened through my Revox earphones :) - as an acoustic, so far I only got a vintage Höfner 12-string from 1972, am still looking for a nic 6-string ;-) - it's only today that I found your channel and like the chilled attitude and the good sound B-)
Being the vintage guy that you are, you outta look into an old DeArmond model 210 pickup for that. Think Lightnin Hopkins. I’ve got a few of em. Adj vol pot on em, u can play em clean, or drive it thru some hot tubes and they sound great!!!! Keep pickin’ bud. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
How wonderful Matthew. So good to listen to you playing your Acoustic. Also wonderful that you've saved this guitar and instead of it wasting away it will now become a loved part of History you can use to inspire yourself as well as all of us with your music. Thank You And thank you Joel, great job Sir.
Good to see you again Matthew. Joel did a great job with the repairs, the cosmetic stuff is exceptional, pure artistry. Liking your choice of using that existing hole for the pickup jack. Lovely sounding guitar, I thought the blended sound was like medicine to my ears and soul. Great work my friend 🤠🎸 PEACE
Thank you man I say not only by me but in the name of all your guitar player viewers. You really a chance to bring good music and good times back. Good luck with everything. Peace and love
Gibson Dove, the guitar of my dreams. I almost bought one but I ended up getting a Gibson Firebird Acoustic. Same maple back and sides, same scale length 25 1/2”. I have the LR Bags VTC pickup. Mine is a 2015 so it still hasn’t “opened up” yet. But it’s getting there. I still want an old Dove…. 60’s, not the 70’s. I’d also like a Hummingbird from that time period. They both came out around the same time. Amazing instruments. Even the new Doves are amazing. I played one, I think a 2018, I could not put it down. Congrats on your acquisition and keep putting these old birds back together. Glad someone appreciates these old gems! Peace!
I think you restored it perfectly. That guy and yall's decisions, made it just perfect. I would have done everything exactly how you did it. 5 stars man.
Unplugged is perfect! I was kinda disappointed in that Di tone. It was muffled, and lost that clarity on the high strings. I tried a lot of acoustic pickups in my older gibsons. Lr Baggs element was the only pickup that translated the acoustic tone correctly to a Di. Its pressure sensitive and really articulates.
Beautiful resonance! The rattle can be taken care of. 25.5 scale is actually the norm for dreadnoughts. Do my own setups and misc on my acoustics and love the bridge...never even knew that Gibson put a metal bridge on an acoustic. What a way to be able to dial in the intonation. Congratulations on finding that sweet dream!
Beautiful instrument, it really sings beautifully in your hands. The repair is absolutely fab!! I'd love to get my hands on a proper acoustic, I had a cheap one at home that my grandfather picked up from somewhere, but the frets were destroyed... A few weeks before the pandemic, I approached a luthier and he was offered building lessons!! I started building a scaled down OM, but the virus hit us hard and I haven't been able to visit the workshop since February... The last thing I worked on was bending the ribs..
@@louieo.blevinsmusic4197 Sadly not, I haven't been able to resume since. Gosh, that was ages ago. The luthier started getting a loads of commissions and I guess he decided he didn't have time for classes anymore. Bit of a bummer, really.
This acoustic is both beautiful and sounds amazing. Great find man. Also I think you did well as far as deciding on what to do. You always seem to go the same routes I may take if I were in your shoes. Love it man. Thank you for the videos.
I was wondering where you had gone, glad you are ok. I love that dove. I am now looking around for one too. don't touch that bridge its so unique and sounds so good. Thanks for the Video and keep save.
Thank you for explaining how the cracks were filled with wood. I cannot believe that you cant even see it. I thought the before picture was the after picture, and then you see the after picture, and it is like it was never even there. That was empowering. Thank you.
Sounds amazing! Great repair work. Definitely a keeper. My favorite guitars are the ones that have a past and can show it. The stories/ memories it holds. I love finding guitars with poor quality repairs because it shows me they cared enough to try to fix it. And the guitars in our hand now to reach it to the next level. And you definitely did with your dove. Glad to see. Thank you for sharing.
I use a Red-eye Fire Eye with mine. Great preamp. Plus Darren the owner and inventor is one of the nicest people you’ll ever deal with if you have the opportunity to talk with him.
It’s truly a beautiful instrument. It sounds great and you’re playing is stellar as always. I’m sure it wasn’t inexpensive to get it repaired but keeping a piece of history alive and singing is well worth it in my opinion.
That sounds amazing! The low end is crazy and sounds so good, I wasn’t a big fan of the pick up though it sounded kind of muffled, also everyone needs a break now and again!
I'm so glad to see the Dove back again it was a long wait but well worth it. It sounds first class, great tone and well played too. Most of my Electric guitars are Fenders but my acoustics are both Gibson a J-45 and a J-15. I really love playing them and I hope you get the same great joy out of yours as I do mine. Please do not let the Dove be a stranger to your videos I would love to hear you play it more. You have a great touch on that axe, keep it up. Thanks again.
Congrats on a wonderful guitar, and I love your playing! You treated this guitar with a great deal of respect during its renovation. A great acoustic guitar can be an inspiration. It seems that this one is inspiring you!
Just watched this I was playing my 67 hummingbird this evening had not played it in a while I understand your love for these old instruments i have to we have for a reason nothing else sounds like them nothing else feels like them it's up to us and people like us to keep them playing she's a buietiful bird
What a super looking guitar that is. That pick guard though! Sounds awesome both plugged in and not!Awesome playing as per usual!!! Keep it up man. 🔥💥🔥 Best wishes from 🇬🇧
Such an insane guitar i fell in love with it the first time you showcased it. I just bought an epiphone dove off a buy and sell app just cause your dove blew me away. it’s not a 69 Gibson, but Epiphone custom shop really did a good job.
Such a beautiful guitar. I have a 65 gibson heritage that's my main acoustic. It sounds like what all dreadnoughts want to grow up to sounds like. Great playing Aswell . Thanks for your videos.
Are you aware that the bridge is off center? I would have adjusted the colour of the 2 new saddles... But a dream guitar, the sound is amazing. Be glad you have it.
Love that Dove!! Always wanted one but my advanced age, wallet and health is prohibitive! Love your artistry & the repairs/ rest work are first class!! Keep it humming' & thx for sharing!!
Was excited to see you holding your hummingbird I've been anxiously waiting to see it's outcome. Wow that has one of the mellow yet clear sounds I've ever heard. And being in flat the bass notes are just awesome. But the high notes ring with brilliant trebile. You play some of the coolest little tunes also making the whole experience superb !! So cool someone like yourself saw what this guitar was and had the correct repairs done. I think it's one of the best sounding acoustic I've ever heard. 👏👏👌
Beautiful guitar man. I never liked these doves, but you make it look really cool man. Great guitar, great video, great playing. Now let’s see that golden sg you snuck in there...
Beautiful sounding guitar, stunning tone. I could listen to that all day. I thought the blended plugged in sound really complimented the guitar! Great video, thanks for putting it together.
These old guitars sound great. I have an old 12 string Höfner that I bought in the early seventies and it sounds brilliant too. You have a lot of fun with old guitars 👍🌞 Many greetings 🐈
Wow that’s an angels voice not a guitar!! That is probably the best acoustic I’ve ever heard and that includes a top of the range Martin!! That is a guitar to pass on to your grandchildren what a fantastic heirloom! Would I play it? Probably not simply because I couldn’t do it justice!! Keep up the good work Matthew
I love open tunings! I also love the fact that you can dial in the intonation on that baby. I wish my acoustic was intonatable LOL. It's all good though , that thing sounds great Matthew! PEACE 🐉💀👽🎸🎶🎵
I have an 80's Dove that is my main recording guitar. I'm a full-time producer for 25 years and it has been featured on many recordings. If you get a good Dove, there is just nothing better. Warm, balanced, well detailed with a distinctive voice. I also own Taylors, etc..
So happy to see it done. What a beautiful tone. The pickup didn't work so well for me, had it's moments, but miked it was rich a.f. I bet it sounds just heavenly in the room. Nice one, Matthew.
I sold my 1965 Dove like this one to Mark Knopfler... It was almost perfect...He told me it's one of the best acoustics he ever played and still takes it everywhere.... Wonderful tone on these old square shoulder Gibsons.... Thanks for sharing this wonderful Gibson Matthew...
