For touch ups I used Hawaiian tropic powder and super goop powder I was comparing them. I enjoyed this video. I have fair, extremely sensitive skin. The DRMTLGY hybrid, tinted sunscreen burns my face and eyes, as does the Neutrogena (chemical) Sheer SPF 60. I had been enjoying Paula’s Choice Resist (tinted) very much, but worried about getting it on my hats, so purchased the untinted version. My bad. My face has been burning ever since, with much redness. I just realized today that while the tinted Resist is a mineral SPF, the untinted is chemical (five active chemical SPF filters). One would need a magnifying glass to see the tiny font on the tube, but I should have checked the ingredients (at the time, I didn’t realize that my skin cannot tolerate chemical sunscreens). I purchased three while it was still cool out, wanting to get the delivery before it got hot. Costly, careless mistake. Today I used LaRoche Posey’s ultra soothing Toleraine moisturizer, with the tinted (mineral) Paula’s Choice Resist. It’s the first time in a week that my face doesn’t feel like it’s melting, my eyes are not on fire (I can’t even use mineral SPF near my eyes, though), and my cheeks aren’t hot pink. I don’t use foundation, and the Paula’s Choice (mineral) tinted has a surprisingly lovely application. Not sure how it would look on deeper skin tones, however.

I used to love the Australian Gold, but it became too drying for my skin type. It was so reasonably priced. I'm like you. Most chemical sunscreens burn my eyes like crazy. And for me, the product also needs to be cruelty free. I also prefer an SPF over 40. I've been trying the Naturium chemical sunscreen, but I have to use a physical sunscreen under my eyes. I have tried the DRMTLGY sunscreen. It's very nice, but I find that it doesn't dry down. I may retry it. I love the Elta MD tinted sunscreen. Thanks so much, Taylor. I hope your son is feeling better. ❤❤😊

When you're watching reviews from a cosmetic chemist or dermatologist, they are saying what's the "best" from an ingredient, formulation, regulation, and research perspective. They also say the best sunscreen is the one you will actually wear. I think Taylor is recommending what's best as a regular person, from the, "will actually wear," perspective. And as long as she's not giving bad advice, like recommending that people mix and dilute sunscreens with other products to "make them work," I have no problem with this. People need to have some responsibility in what they decide to watch and who they use a source for certain information.

The Australian gold tinted is perfect for my oily skin/acne-prone skin in the spring and summer. For anyone who finds it drying, try using a heavy moisturizer over toners and serums and then apply the sunscreen once those have soaked in.

I have acne prone skin as well [oily], but i use chemical sunscreen on my face and neck (Paulas Choice Youth Extending fluid spf 50) and mineral sunscreen around my eyes and as a second layer of sunscreen on the tzone, which doubles as a mattifying primer, zinc being so absorbant (Elta MD UV Elements tinted). The Australian Gold gives me welts and hives, so heads up to those with sensitive skin; better to get a travel size first. For the beach I like the Neutrogena Hydroboost spf 50 in the blue tube, or Black Girl Sunscreen Kids spf 50.

I agree with your mineral sunscreen picks. I use the Australian Gold and the Cetaphil liquid. They are definitely the best I've tried. I have sensitive skin so I don't use chemical sunscreens but I'm intrigued by the hybrid and have had that one in my Amazon shopping cart for a while. I think I'm going to have to give it a try. I think Australian Gold changed the formula a little bit. I just got a new one and the packaging is a bit different and it seems like a thinner consistency. I like it even more than before. My problem with the Australian Gold is how HEAVY it is. The only thing in my bathroom thicker that is Vaseline. Note that I don't wear liquid foundation (and have oily skin in a sub-tropical climate) and I really don't want anything on my face that I can actually feel. Thank you so much for all the amazing videos that you make. I know that you enjoy doing research on different topics and I have been trying to find the very best sunblock for my body and neck and face. I am completely confused because in the research that I have done it says that if mineral and chemical sunblock are layered or used at the same time the SPF ingredients are diminished because of the layering or mixing of chemical and mineral sunblocks. So how do hybrid sunblocks work? I am so confused and would so much appreciate your explaining this to all of us! Thank you in advance❤
@DrugstoreMaven
@DrugstoreMaven Год назад
I wouldn't mix a chemical sunscreen and a mineral sunscreen together because they are formulated to be mixed. Mixing sunscreen with anything really isn't a good idea because you don't know how the ingredients will react. Hybrid sunscreens are specifically formulated for both mineral and physical ingredients to work together and are widely accepted by derms. I hope that helps!

I normally only use Korean or Japanese sunscreens because I find their formulas to be the most comfortable on my skin but I do still try US ones occasionally and I recently fell in love with that first Neutrogena one you mentioned and think it's great ... but because it's only SPF 30, it's just my "not doing anything outdoors for extended periods" sunscreen. (The SPF60 Neutrogena one is pretty good except for the horrible eye sting, so I probably won't repurchase it.) HOWEVER!!!, I also recently found another US favourite -- the BANANA BOAT LIGHT AS AIR FACE LOTION SPF 50+. It is sooo good and really surprised me! Thanks for the recommendations. I have such a hard time finding sunscreen for my kids that doesn't irritate their sensitive eczema prone skin and doesn't have them running around the beach looking like someone smeared white paint on them. For our body the Hawaiian Tropics weightless hydration is our go to. I get 30 for them and 50 for myself. But I still don't have a great option for their face. That is the most sensitive part of both of them. I use the Lancome Expert UV. I love it because I hate feeling sunscreen on my face. But, it is pricey. But for them I'm still on the hunt. Fun fact...Australian Gold sunscreen isn't even sold here in Australia 🤷🏼‍♀️🤔🤦🏼‍♀️ Most of the other sunscreens Taylor featured aren't sold here in Australia either 😔

I cannot use any of the chemical sunscreens you love. :( making my eyes burn is the deal breaker and they all do. Some Korean chemical sunscreens and the ELF Woah Glow do not (cant pin point the exact chemical that doesn't agree w/my eyes). So, sticking with mineral. I'm loving the Undefined R and R spf 50 (target/ulta $28) right now, has a weird oily texture I had to get used to, no cast, is tinted a little dark but may as well be clear = it doesnt show up at all on my fair skin and looks pretty under foundation. Elta MD UV elements is my holy grail right now, but it is so pricey any more.

I really like R&R but agree the texture takes some getting used to.

Do you put a 1/4 tspn on your face?

@@DrugstoreMaven Do you actually fill a 1/4 tspn or do a 'visual'? Thanks

One little note -I tried two shades of the Neutrogena, but they were orangey on my cool-toned skin. ❤️

I guess instead of referring to spf as physical or chemical - saying mineral or broad spectrum might be simpler.

If you find the Australian Gold too drying, here's what I do... I mix 2 parts AG to 1 part moisturizing sunscreen. I mix with Bondi Sands Face spf 50. I mix very very well, but since there are 2 spf's I'm mixing, it will evenly spread coverage. I hope this helps ♡
