Nina Chanel Abney is an American artist known for her vibrant, large-scale paintings that explore themes of race, gender, politics, and contemporary culture. Born in 1982 in Harvey, Illinois, Abney gained recognition for her distinctive style, which blends figurative and abstract elements with bold colors and dynamic compositions.
Abney graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and later earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Parsons School of Design in New York City. Her breakthrough came with her participation in the 2008 exhibition “30 Americans” at the Rubell Family Collection in Miami, which showcased works by African American artists.
