Our construction technique for building the best darn All wire Rabbit cages you could imagine. We use 14 Gauge galvanized after welding wire mesh to construct the cages. 1X1" mesh for sides and top and 1X1/2" mesh for bottom and baby saver strips. This cage will not hurt rabbit feet and are quite large. This is a premium product that costs slightly more to build but well worth the money. We think they are simply the best!

The notion is that animals would live forever in amazing families enjoying playtime and experiencing love and togetherness. The reality is most animals find themselves holding a position in the food chain. Rabbits are by nature are a source of food for a variety of animals. It is my belief that they are a food source no different than blueberries or nuts.

For cutting the wire mesh I bought a tool from Harbor Freight, their least expensive model. The Chicago Electric Power Tools brand. "14 Gauge Swivel Head Shear". part #62213 for $49.99 plus tax. August 2020. I think it is made for cutting sheet metal but it works fantastic for the 14 Gauge wire mesh and it is able to trim the ends flush so there is no bits poking out. The motor and body are identical to a hand held power drill and where the chuck would be there is a nibbler to cut the metal. Although it does not open much the scissor opens just enough for this application, I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried it out. Variable speed too, so you can go nice and slow. I like that there are no sparks, rather quiet and the bits of wire can easily be swept up. It is "Swivel Head" so you can position the head so the handle and power cord are off to the side and do not interfere with the wire mesh that you are cutting (I positioned mine upside down so the handle and power cord point straight up instead of down, operating the trigger with my pinky finger) .

The most important thing to remember is your trying to control bacterial growth. Pressure washing is the most efficient way of doing this. We use a rotary head for even better efficiency. You can finish with a bleach and water finish spray from a garden sprayer

To cut cost I am using cheap 1"x1" 16 gauge cage for side and top but quality 1"x1/2" 14 gauge on bottom. Is it find to use 16 gauge for only side and top? Thanks
@JimsNBHomestead
@JimsNBHomestead 4 года назад
I don't see a big savings in using 16gauge and the cages are pretty flimsy. We tried it and moved away from it. We switched to a cage wire made Italy as it is hot dipped galvanized which is extremely durable and rust hasn't been an issue. The cheaper wires are electrically plated and it is of poor quality. Saving a couple of bucks today may end up costing you tomorrow.

@yuzitoki

Do you mean building it and using for rabbit pets or for selling in farms. Because in my opinion, if it's for as pets, that's not how a pet rabbit lives. You are just torturing their life if you put your pet rabbit in those wire small cages. Pet rabbits does not like cages. They like to be out inside the house running around and exploring the house. Pet rabbits needs the bonds with their owners. If they are in cages for long periods it will lose bonds with the owner. They will feel being trapped for years and imagine that was your life? Can you handle being inside a small wire cage for your whole life? Some can and some can't. But even though we are human and rabbits or any animals are creatures or animals we have to respect our pets and love them. We have to take responsibility over them if you choose to own a pet. If you cant deal with taking care, cleaning after them, afford their food (go to food donations), or have bad bonds. I recommend not to own a pet of yours. Thank you for reading this far. I hope you have a fun, happy day! [Pls no hate comments]😊
@JimsNBHomestead
@JimsNBHomestead 4 года назад
Thanks for sharing your opinions but these cages are for raising rabbits as a food source. They are treated very well and do get human contact 2 times a day. My rabbits are not pets and do well in there cages. We provide ample space for them. In the future they will be in tractors and forage will be possible. Appreciate the fact that they are kept in the best possible conditions.
