Gonna tell you what brother ! Whomever said work smart not hard knew exactly what he was talking about. 😅😅😅. Been a month that I am fighting to strip OLD paint from my front porch! Nothing works, grinders, belt sander, sand paper...etc. dude ! You literally saved me a TON of time. Funny part I had an old Wagner power striper and didn't even know I had it. 😂😂😂😂. Thx man.
Use PAINT STRIPPER. My God this idiot isn't even using the gun correctly, that's not a damn scraper its heat shield. Don't take advice from this dumbass in the video he has no idea what he's doing.
the last home i lived in was built in 1860 i painted the outside i use heat gun took all paint off 20 years latter the paint holds up thank you for the video i like that gun with the Scraper that you got i been looking for one like that
For anyone about to try this, use a metal scraper not the attachment in the video. That attachment is made to be a shield attachment so you dont burn your trim and whatnot. If you use it as a scraper, residue accumulates and is too hard to remove eventually. If you are working on removing lead paint, the goop will start to fry at over 800 degrees which is when the lead vaporizes and becomes dangerous. Use a scraper and have a second scraper handy so you can scrape them against eachother to remove the goop easily. Read the manual for your heat gun and use a setting 800 degrees or less so you don't huff lead fumes and become a drooling moron before you're 55 years old.
The attachment you have on the gun is one meant for the windows. The "scrapper" end is the shield for the glass. You need to use the wide dispersal tip to fan out the heat (also use a higher heat, the wood will be fine if you do not dell longer than 5-6 sec. Use the scraper you had, or better yet, a SS 1.5" putty knife. I got this gun to strip doors painted multiple times with latex paint over the years. I would far better than I would have hoped vs citris stripper.
You’re better off using a separate scraper keep the heat gun about 1 inches ahead of the scraper have the airflow hit the paint and the tip of your scraper that’s the way to use it
This would drive me nuts. It is like in slow motion. Who has all that time. It is Ok for a small project but for an exterior wall of a home, forget it. Use a scraper, sander, pressure washer, chemical stripper or a mix of all these methods. That is what I did. Never mind the electric bill too. You will be shocked.
Dude you're not supposed to use that as a scraper at 11:36 This is a deflector to protect glass when you need to work on or close to glass. The correct procedure is to heat the paint and remove it with a scraper at a constant speed, which depends on power settings and type of paint.
just got one works great, looks a little fancy but the paperwork says 3-year warranty. wait I don't have a digital display just the four-button mode with bar display.
I’ve used heat guns to remove oil based paint for a while now, however, do not use the guard that comes with the tool like that. Buy yourself a paint scraper and follow up behind it.
So the concrete floor that is the size of an airport hanger would probably cause me to burn through three years of my life. Am I correct in this assessment?
I would think if the concrete floor is smooth, it would probably take all 3 layers up with the right heat and movement with the scraper. If its rough then you may have to use a chemical stripper in order to get the pain in the little pits in the concrete. Let me know how it goes if you try it. It worked well for me on all of my projects so far.
Haha, yep I hear that. Unfortunately, it is not my decision and it has been removed, walls have been insulated where they werent, and pine tongue and groove board has replaced it. It looks a lot nicer than it used to. This was the second most run down room of the house and is now one of the best.
It doesn't inspire confidence to see you using the heat guard as a scraper - suggests you haven't even bothered to read the instructions. And for you then to declare...with the benefit of 15 minutes experience, nearly all on the easy flat bits & without tackling the trickier internal corners and details: "My overall opinion is....." is more than a bit premature. This is not an opinion I can respect. And you need a curved-bladed scraper for the roll-edge. But hey, it's an attractive fireplace surround.
Besides sandblasting (out of the question) show me another method faster because you won't sand it without gumming up the sand paper time and time again before even getting to bare wood.
Its surprisingly not, the way this fella is doing it with the scraper attached was taking long but i found taking that off and just blowing over the paint then coming behind with the scraper was taking off the paint much faster. I stripped my whole door frame and architrave in about an hour.
@@kornstar1988 What he is using is a heat reflector, not a scraper. I used it aroundthe glass on my windows so it wouldn't heat the glass and cause it to crack. I still used a scraper with the reflector though
Because he doesn't know what hes doing. And if its lead, it is more likely to burn and reach the 1100 degrees needed to release toxic lead fumes just sitting on the tip of the gun like that
I stripped 27 doors and nine mantles and a staircase the exact same way! I burnt up three heat guns! I also use chemical stripper and a shit ton of sandpaper!
Read the instructions...You're not using the gun correctly...That attachment is not a scraper! It would have worked so much faster if you would have used Wagner's instructions..
agreed. no offense intended to billy-ray-cleetus-bob's opinion that "this is workin' really well", but that method'll take all gawd'dog dern day... and the mantel will STILL need to be sanded.

Interesting. Since this video was made, the Liberals have banned Methylene Chloride in liquid strippers, and they work very poorly now. And of course you had to wear gloves and open windows, etc. Using heat, especially up north in the winter, might not be a bad idea.
Please don't make that idiotic move a political one. It's the overly fearful public in general that are too stupid to ventilate the room where they use the paint stripper. One 22 year old dies because he was too stupid to read the label.
@@OneAdam12Adam , yup, one less idiot in the world at least! But since my last post, bought a Heat Gun and it works great getting the layers of paint off. Still need to strip the varnish and/or stain, but it's not an easy job, period.
