London is the greatest city on earth. Ancient history integrated with modern day technology and architecture. Excellent food and always something to do
Isn't it strange how we admire and embrace the Roman Empire especially the occupation of Britain. 2000 years later we still preserve and, in many cases, make use of their innovations. Mention the British Empire and everyone wants to string us up with piano wire.
You’re right that Baby chinos are intended for kids so they don’t feel left out while their parents have a coffee. They are cheap because the idea is that if the kids are happy then the parents stay and spend money on other stuff.
This lovely young lady has one of the happiest and most elastic faces. 🤪🤘 I think we ought to build a statue of her and place it next to the pastry stall in Borough Market before her next visit. 😁
It's so nice to hear from some visitors who are genuinely interested in the City they're in, and have educated themselves on what to expect. Well done, great job you two. Safe trip home and you're welcome back anytime.
I dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Jasper Gunnar Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
just watched all your england vlogs, melissas enthusiasm is infectious im glad you enjoyed your visit your a great couple and hope you come and visit us again someday, all the best from me and the uk
I'm embarrassed that as an English person, every time I visit London I shop, eat and drink. I am going to use your videos for our next trip. Love your enthusiasm x
Construction of the present Saint Paul's Cathedral, in the City of London, began in 1675, nine years after the Great Fire, and was (more-or-less) complete by 1710, during the reign of Queen Anne. That's why the statue at the front of the cathedral is of Anne. Fourth cathedral on the site, the first being Anglo-Saxon and dating from 604AD. All four have stood on the site of a Roman temple dedicated to Diana, goddess of the hunt. It's said Diana Spencer wished to marry with Prince Charles at Saint Paul's rather than Westminster Abbey because of the association with the Roman goddess but whether or not that is fact is anyones' guess.
Babychinos are for children hence why they don’t have coffee in them :) it’s so small children can feel like a grown up joining their parents for coffee. It’s just steamed milk with chocolate on top :)
Do you know, you can use your hand as a basic map of London? Hold out your left hand , palm up. The River Thames flows along the base of your thumb to pinky finger and your digits are the bridges. Your thumb is Westminster Bridge ( Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace ). Your index finger is Waterloo Bridge ( Covent Garden, National Gallery , Brits Museum). Middle finger is Blackfriars Bridge ( St Pauls Cathedral ). next finger is London Bridge ( City of London ) and your pinky finger is Tower Bridge ( Tower of London ) - look, if you lift your pinky finger, you make Tower Bridge open and close ! Ok, admit if you did that ! All the best, Peter
I try to watch a range of travel videos, whenever I get the chance, and just stumbled upon yours (thanks YT!) and I have to say, thoroughly enjoyed them! I'm on my third in a row already. You're both just spot on with your content, funny, descriptive, well shot/edited. From this Brit, you get a big thumbs up for your London and beyond series, looking forward to watching more soon!
I'm a British guy, and a friend and I went to the Sky Garden ( you really REALLY need to book ahead) and when the lifts opened I just made this shocked gasp because there was all of London in front of me. Take note: you can't bring food in with you, and the prices in the food cafe can be high. But the experience was exceptional.
It's literally just occured to me, but this market (and I'm sure others like it, though without the vintage pedigree) are probably the real life inspiration behind Harry Potter's Diagon Alley!
I know you didn't have time to see everything, but did you visit Southwark Cathedral, right by Borough Market? It was the parish church of Shakespeare for the whole of his life in London and his brother is buried there. Also, there is a small chapel dedicated to the Harvard family ( of University fame ) who originated from that area. Every day is a school day !
The building (20 Fenchurch Street) where the Skygarden is located was accidentally melting people's cars a few years ago. Because all the glass is concave, it reflected & concentrated the sun onto cars parked at the roadside like a giant magnifying glass, distorting the metal panels and melting plastic parts. It had to be fitted with special sun shades about 6 years ago to stop it happening. Oops!
Grahamhg My friend works in a new build where the roof blew off and was hanging over the side of the building. The windows that are supposed to open can't be opened as the hinges are too weak to support them. And the walls bend when you push them. As for the bridge, I remember the architect saying that the bridge was designed to bounce. Maybe he was just trying to cover his lack of foresight that people may wish to walk over it in groups instead of one at a time.
Great Video Guys.. I am now 64 and a Londoner who now lives just 1/2 mile from a London postal district . I live in an Outer London Borough and have never even heard of The Sky Garden or that Market and touring London has been my pastime for decades...lol
180 Mark....Back Of The Net for you ! I will tell you what happened, as someone who has a Girlfriend living less than one mile from Borough Market and I am from The Elephant, originally.I lived over East Lane (Street) Market, Walworth for 28 years, less than 2 miles away..lol Firstly I had never heard of The Sky Garden and saw "The Oldest Market" sign in the next bit assuming I hadn't seen that either without really watching that segment ,not knowing that it was The Borough Market,, which I haven't visited for years was the one in question , so I,mistakenly, said that. I DID realise my mistake and wanted to erase this schoolboy error but could not remember on which one of 12 videos this morning that I have commented on, it was on , so I hoped no-one would notice :)
Hey so the baby chino is like a cappuccino but for kids so that when the parents are having them the kids don't feel left out and where I live in Newcastle I think they are free also we have a massive wall which is still here from when the romans built it its massive
Just added you today. Love your travel videos. I loved London as I went there 99. If your ever on your travels again please visit my city of Liverpool England you will love it full of Beatle stuff to your fill. If you desire to go I will personally give you a your of the city centre and all the best places.
Did you guys know that some of the "Leaky Cauldron" scenes from Harry Potter were filmed in Borough Market.... oh and so was Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels!
Wetherspoons / pie, chips, veg and gravy / real ale, football (soccer), bearable summers, superb wet weather clothing, a coastline that belongs to everyone - not the millionaires that fence it off, the same for walking in the countryside (no fenced off 5,000 acre farms). There are one or two things I don't like, but I think you have more!
I'm afraid that Borough Market is a bit of a tourist trap these days. The stalls are mainly corporate and run by a big company, and, well, not what it was...
Oh and don’t forget the egg wasn’t cleaned to death making a white shell (micro abraded biological shield removal exposing the content to bacterial infection, but you do have to refrigerate it before and after sales) before it was boiled, mmmhh yum!! Look I’m sorry I couldn’t help myself getting that dig in. Brits! What can you do?
Nice video guys - thank you. Next time in UK please try the Full Englsh Breakfast with black pudding, the Full Roast Dinner with Yorkshire Pudding and some of our Spotted Dick with custard. Live healthy lol. Keep the videos coming.
well that's a bunch of garbage. My mother has been vegetarian for 30 years. She is one of the healthiest people I know (at 78). She has no medical issues and I can't remember her having anything more than a cold. Compare that with people who have the average 'western' diet.
Yer the Romans had a big Empire but it was no comparison to the British Empire where the sun never sets.. not saying that an empire is a good thing but we did it way better lol
Romans found the British isles to be so different from their own climate that they decided to leave Ireland and Scotland to the celts as neither had anything that they needed!
London has better air quality than some other big cities and this is still somehow considered a London thing. And also remember that applies for centre of London only, if people were to explore outer London a bit more and in fact, other parts of England, they'd know England better. I feel for tourists who think London is the only thing in England when its population makes up only 1/8 of the whole country.
MrMadjones You stupid moron. You’ve never been to London have you? But you’ve read about it in the Sun and you’re scared!! I’ve been here 36 years and at the moment I don’t think London has ever been better. It improves every year.
