Burning fuel puts water in the air. In really cold places like the top of Vt I keep the humidity low in my garage because of old cars and don't want building damage. My garage is very tight...I only recommend vented heaters in really cold places..

They are great heaters. I used a couple on small drywall jobs and they warm everything in the room not just the air. When the power goes out they are safe for inside use with a generator outside of course. Only use diesel fuel to keep the smell down and you can buy a additive that will make the fuel smell like grape of strawberry. Well worth the money.

Cart before the horse sort of speak. Pole barn 30x48x10 built but the spray foam guys are booked out. I own a lawn care snow plowing business and it is 8 degrees. Tailgate has frozen shut with tonneau cover on so i couldnt get in the bed to grab a shovel. Drove to the manual car wash and sprayed truck down for 20 minutes to remove a lot of packed snow/ice. It only cost me $2 because as soon as i put the $2 in i realized the line to spray nozzle was frozen. Luckily the owner of the wash happened to be there so he apologized and swiped his card and told me to use it as long as i want. Awesome. Got tailgate to work. I dont mind some ice build up but need my stuff to work when needed. Still can feel resistance when lowering gate but i shall heat up my barn.

Any condensation issues? My propane 100k heats my 30x40 building very very fast, but anything metal gets condensation. Ive only used it twice and need an alternative. im also concerned about explosion. I got the garage to temp to paint once. i got the temp up and unplugged my heater long enough to paint and waited before turning it back on. it seems like there has to be a better option. i'm about to put a forced air in it or heat pump.

Good heater. However...If your outside air temp around the unit is below 41F you have to use a small heater to feed the intake for the thermostat or you cannot shut it off correctly. My shop is open on one end and I use this to heat an area. The air temp around the heater still may be below 41. Just FYI. I called tech support at MR Heater and they told me that was on page 4 of the manual. Good video.

I would have bought either the Beacon Morris garage furnace that hangs from the ceiling or the MR heater garage furnace because they are quiet and they both can run on either propane or natural gas because they both come with the correct orfices for either gas . They are just as quiet as this is and work just like a furnace in your home because they use a thermostat to turn the heat on when the garage cools down plus you don't have the smell of the kerosene or diesel in the shop with the benefit of it up and out of the way verses on the shop floor . I have mine set up for propane now using a 500 gallon tank but I have a buddy that works for a company that does natural gas lines for homes and businesses and he said he can bring everything needed to do the natural gas line coming off my house out to the garage cheaper than anyone thats all up to code so no more having to call the propane company when the tank gets low or paying as much to heat my garage plus no more ugly 500 gallon propane tank sitting in my yard and can do this all in a few hours . I used to use these kerosene heaters years ago but got sick of paying so much for the kerosene plus after a few years they all seem to start smoking more and stinking up the garage so I switched to a actual garage furnace and have been very happy with it . If you got the room some people will look for good used 2 stage house furnaces on craigslist and buy them cheap and use them because they work good as well but if you don't have the room for one the next best thing is the hanging garage furnace so its up and out of the way . I usually dont run mine until December then just leave it on with the thermostat set at 50 degrees then when im out in the shop working i bump the temp up to 60 degrees and its plenty warm in the shop being its insulated and its usually anywhere from 10 above or -20 below in Wisconsin where i live during the winter so got to have a heated garage to work on anything unless you like freezing your -ss off lol . By spring time and its 35-40+ drgrees out i shut the furnace off and ive still used only 40% of the 500 gallon propane tank for the winter so they are efficient as long as your garage is insulated and you have insulated garage doors and high efficiency windows in the garage .

The buzzing from 4:44 to 5:00, what is occurring during this process that makes it significantly louder than when the heater is in normal operation? I got 4 ft of regular fireplace flu pipe material .I took the bottom window out and made a double pain replacement for the flu to come threw. I took the thermostat and ran it inside also. When the spaceheater comes on you don't even hear it. I made a cover for the spaceheater out side with 2 peaces of plywood to keep the rain and snow off of it. Use diesel fuel in it to so you don't stink like kerosene. Best set up I have ever used. Just like a heat pump actually !
@returnofsid
@returnofsid Год назад
@paul watson to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, you're using a torpedo style heater, placing it outside, and piping the heat in through stove pipe that's directly covering the end of the torpedo heater? Did you plumb it through the wall, using double wall pipe? If you double wall pipe it, all the way, you'd have less heat loss at the exterior piping, though that's probably not much of a realistic consideration. I've done something very similar, on a much smaller scale, while ice fishing. Using a portable diesel heater, outside the pop up, plumbed into the hut with a short piece of 3" double wall. It eliminates the noise AND the need to vent fresh air to the heater, AND solves the CO2 issues!

Yea, they could be tightened up a little more, but there doesn't seem to be much heat loss. I had it on yesterday and had to shut it off because it got way too hot out there. I honestly like to know that I do have some fresh air coming into the space too.

I like those heaters but wonder about long term reliability and ease of repair when the time comes. I have 2 torpedo heaters 1 I bought in 1994 and it has ran flawlessly with no issues whatsoever. The other I picked up in a scrapyard and repaired it for less than $50. I’ve added plug in thermostat’s to both and run off road diesel as well, and yes they are loud. I’ve found they run much cleaner on diesel versus kerosene. Maybe if I ever wear them out or can’t get parts I may buy a quieter heater. Thank you for your informative video.

Yea, the heaters you are talking about are bullet proof. I didn't already have one, so I was in the market for something. Opted for something a bit more quiet. Love this thing so far!

They're pretty darn similar to the torpedo's except for the ceramic plate piece. That's the only spot I could see them being less reliable.

Garage heater? Never used such a thing. Heat is free here and never ending. If I was lucky enough to live in a place with seasons and the space to have a garage I would like to rig up a radiator system and boiler fueled by wood. The siphon pump is a good idea. Oh and my lawnmower runs on Diesel so that's closer to jet fuel right? Great heater advice from a hot man. Doesn't all that combustion use up your oxygen?
@IndyFarmLife
@IndyFarmLife 2 года назад
Haha yea they probably don't sell too many of those down there. I know a few people who use wood burners to heat their whole house and water. They are pretty neat systems. I haven't had an issue with lack of oxygen...yet. That garage has a few overhead doors that still let in a fair amount of air in the jambs. If I start talking nonsense in the video then hit the 911 button instead of the like button!

I like the quiet but I still prefer propane I've ran fuel delivery to gas stations for years and witnessed a lot of cross contaminations basically gas in diesel and diesel into gas then with kerosene I've seen a lot of gas stations will run racing fuel 110oct in the summer then convert it back to kerosene in the winter year after year so that's always been my fears

Fair point. What's nice is this one is multi-fuel, so to the extent it's not a crazy cross contamination, it would probably be OK.
