There should be Bg modes restricted to 2, 3, and 4 stars. That would be so fun, and give a reason to rank and play your entire roster.

I have a 1% love for Battlegrounds and a 99% hate for Battlegrounds

The simple fact is if BGs didn't debut a while back, the game would be a shell of itself, possibly dead. The mode made the game fun again, it breathed new life into an otherwise boring rerun of the same content.

Battlegrounds has definitely been a fun thing to base my rankups on. The problem which you also mentioned is that if a champ isn’t good enough for a spot in my battlegrounds deck, they’re essentially useless to me. It sucks because there’s a lot of champs who would be good and underrated but get overshadowed due to being too slow, or not good enough on defense, etc. However the problem goes even further than this, and it’s caused by the new toxic op defenders. Simply put, everyone uses the same 10-15 top meta champs, and it’s made the game mode as a whole incredibly repetitive. Most of the new defenders force you to draft a counter to them, but they also only have a select few counters so that they’ll be more difficult. So because you have to either draft this perfect counter or lose, you end up doing the same fights over and over and over again. We all draft the same 5 defenders because they’re overtuned and better than other typical defenders, and then draft the same 10-15 counters to those champs because if we don’t it’s an instant loss. The game mode is unbalanced right now, and this select pool of op battlegrounds champs is only furthering the problem of other lesser used champs being overshadowed.

Battlegrounds is great, until you reach a high enough tier and run into death matchup after death matchup

Best thing about BG, as a true free to play player, he is so completely self aware. He passes that knowledge onto the community, regardless if they play the game the same way he does. Really the best MCOC content.

I miss the significance that synergies once held. They used to be the first thing I looked at during deep dives, now they’re not even included.

Fully agree, bgs are changing what people consider a good champion. But it’s always been like this, Kabam gives us a reason to rank up champs. It used to be prestige, than war defenders, now bg defenders, and you can see that in the type of champs they have released recently. It’s hard to ignore bgs recently because Kabam pushes it so hard with having to get deathless pieces or large amount of relevant crystal shards. I try to rank champs I personally like and not always the meta but it’s getting harder and harder to do that. Kabam needs to make bgs less important for account growth and put more effort into event quest, arena, variants, or small Everest type content. I hope some things change at Kabam so we can be reassured about the games future.

I think BGs has kinda ruined people perspective on champs now. Not fast in BGs or top BGs player don’t use them= mid/bad champ. Like White Tiger for example. If you’ve been in a Brian Grant stream you’ve seen him crush with her but in let’s say a Lags or Andrew stream they will call her mid. Overall, I love battlegrounds as a game mode, but I hate the way it put these champions in a box. The whole “top 1% mcoc player doesn’t use this champ or they are slow in BGs so they are mid” trend needs to end.

Adding synergys to battlegrounds would be so cool. It could make so many champs more viable, cable apoc duo for example. It also makes drafting more interesting because you can create a whole team instead of just individual champs

I like BGs; what I hate is the fact that Kabam keeps pushing it by adding "essential" items into the game mode, like this season with the Vision piece. Many players certainly feel "forced" to do the content.

"Why did i rank up odin" Does it really matter at the end of the day? Its materials for a rank 2 i dont understand why you feel like you have to 100% justify and optimize your rank ups. Love your content been watching before everyone piled on you for the 12.0 hate EDIT I continued to watch the video and got my answer. lol

An issue I have for the game is the constant chase EQ making it so that champs when say cav difficulty dropped - wouldn’t stack up to finish the content. They increase the difficulty and longevity of play time while not increasing rewards. I Want to walk content if I rank my champs. Not have to constantly rank more and more to make the mark of something potentially 5 years old I don’t need a second job, I’d be more likely to spend if it were fun. And not a headache or make me wanna throw my phone.

Wish we had the difficulty of old act 6 back that had gate lock of either specific rank ups or unit man for paths so you were able to complete it straight away at a cost or work towards a champ

Not that long ago I was taking a newbie through the game he just unlocked BGS his top character was like a rank 2 4 star or something like that and his first 5/6 matches were against valiants and Paragons with r3 7 stars and maxed out 6’s he practically gave up on the mode entirely

I have the same feeling. I want to rank up Hawkeye because he is fun (and good) but I ended up ranking Bullseye because he is far better for battlegrounds. I don’t like Bullseye nearly as much as Hawkeye. That’s just one of many examples.

I've lost 2 hours yesterday trying to climb in Gladiator Circuit. I have a good roster, but the ammount of P2W, hackers, bugs and RNG just made it completely impossible to climb. After 2 hours, I only lost progress, gain nothing.

Your itemless run is the best piece of content I’ve ever seen. I loved battlegrounds when they came out but recently took a break and the reason I’m hesitant to come back is I know I can’t catch up in bg’s

I believe the biggest problem is the one you mentioned in the video Brian. The fact that so many people are "afraid" of rank ups different than the usuals has made the experience worse for others and themselves. People that rank up weird champs, like myself, yes they are greeted with positive messages but also with some very negative like you said, this champ isnt fast, waste of resources, etc. In addition, these people saying these stuff dont even seem they have fun, they play the same champs. they all have the same roster and do the same numb thing. Some may like this and look at it from a different perspective from me, but i have to notice how many people that have r6 hercules find him boring now. A semi-solution on this top is that, even if kabam has to fix some things, WE as a community have to start being more open and friendly towards each other. I dont say r6 Sentry, Cap britain or r3 7* Civil warrior like me (my favorite champs), but please do rank up champs you like, this is a game and for many of us reaching high tier in bg is just a personal goal that would make us happy for a bit, but me personally i feel much more content and happy when I beat rounds with Sentry and captain britain than using someone that i just dont like just cause he is good in bgs. To conclude, lets start expressing ourselves through our roster my friends, dont me afraid to rank up weird champs. Any champ can work if we try hard enough and battlegrounds are there just for fun, we dont have to be Celestial tier and even gamma and if we get there we will do it our way, each and everyone's different way.

The rng system has screwed me over more than i can count. Like, every time I won a bg match, or won twice, the rng is like 'Oh, he's won to many times' and immediately pairs me with a paragon/valiant player. But this is like the one time I've ever reached plat III.

One of the things I enjoy most about mcoc is that it can be a customizable experience depending on what you want to do. You can be in an alliance going hard in war, or pushing hard for BG, or doing random challenges together for fun. The game has a solid framing and then each player gets to decorate their experience how they would like.

only other content that really requires specific rankups is alliance war, especially in high tiers. Besides that ranking the top champs for bgs means u have all that u need for basically the whole game. In long form content u only really need 1 or 2 specific champs so yea. If ur ranking for anything just rank for bgs

It could be a matter of perspective. For a sub average player most days, average at best, the rank ups matter to me. They help me clear content such as SoS, war showcase, or story content that would be much harder and frustrating for me. Battle grounds is a good mode for me, I happen to have a larger than average account, it can be frustrating at times, but keeps me coming back to the game. Just a matter of perspective. I enjoy the thoughtfulness of each of your videos.

I think carina challenges can answer this problem. They just need to build them right and not just for money grab

Adjacently, this is my critique of Sagas, that its falling short of meeting alot of the points you touch on Honestly tell me what the lore was for Xmagica and why certain characters were included in that story. The same with House of Mirrors; what is the story, why should i care for it? Sagas feel like a marketing skin to promote specific champs to sell atm. I get the overarching theme across the game, but to what end? Think the Deathless chase is great because all the champs we’re collecting build to a big event. Think Spring of Sorrow is equally an opportunity to bring comic/lore elements to a fight that justify difficulty, but instead its just difficult for the sake of it

BGs is great. For End game players it’s all that’s left essentially. But it really is a case of optimized roster & flawless gameplay or else which can get old quick, especially for non content creators. We need a monthly quest that is literally end game Valiant level. It doesn’t need to be permanent, we need it monthly & it needs to be Hard. Hard enough to take planning and strategy.

I agree but also disagree. Your roster and skill is more than adequate to get to gladiator in BG, so just rank who you want. You say that you also have Angela and Odin for Incursions, but just don't use them. You say you think it would be cool to have a full set of deathless champs ranked up. Then rank them up and take them into Incursions. I took up Phoenix to r5 the other week to cover 2 objectives against the SOS annihilus. Did it work? No. Do I regret it? Yes. But now I got this cool r5 phoenix sitting around. The other day I took her into Incursions with Professor X and Zemo (Also gave her Odin and Galan treatment) and it's just fun. I already got to max zones, but again, it's all about having fun.

So what I am hearing is that you want another reason to rank up champions in a more useful since. Just a thought but what if there was a badge with every progression level based on how many champs you had ranked up. Example Valiant is required to have 2 rank 3 7*s, put a number next to that progression image for how many rank 3 7*s your account has. With that you can unlock milestones once you get 5, 10 or 15+ and at those milestones give resources for the next progression or a special quest with a trophy champ, badge or other rewards. I am currently paragon with one tier 4 alpha away from being valiant, if I could rank up more 6* to rank 5 to get my missing resources I would. There are probably issues in this that I am not thinking of, also not sure if that would solve this issue. Love your content Brian thanks for putting the conversation out there.

This makes me glad that I'm still progressing through act 6 and not already in the endgame. I'll try not to take for granted the fun of progressing through the game and building my roster from bare bones and figuring out how to beat bosses when i don't have the optimal champs. Today i beat 6.3 iron man with my r4 torch and it's one of the most fun fights I've done

Very much agree with you. I'm also just ranking for battlegrounds. It's feeling like a grind to keep up.

This is a very casual player’s perspective, which is still valid. But most active players are having no trouble finding reason’s to rank up champs. Especially with Sagas and tactics, it’s very fun to rank up champs that otherwise wouldn’t have been ranked up before. But if you aren’t active in an alliance, then sure you’ll only have battlegrounds to look at.

I'm in the minority that's always hated Battlegrounds; my roster wasn't good enough to do well when it started, but now that I have a much better roster, I still can't play because I'm a working dad and don't have time to lock into a 10 minute match where I lose to a single dumb mistake. And the worst part is that the ENTIRE game has shifted to accomodate BG. Questing champs (and quests in general) get no focus anymore, and these new BG defenders are AWFUL to fight for us normies. It's all very alienating, it feels like I can't do anything in MCOC anymore without something pointing to the obnoxious BG sign.

Personally, the rewards are very good for someone who’d cap Battlegrounds. I of course am not a huge gamer, but I did do BG for the Megnatron crystals…this season is like the last one I played. Everyone quits to keep playing, immediately! There had been a few seasons where we’d all fight, everytime.

id like for them to bring back legend events or something. theres 0 chase things left for me to do lol

I mean the sector 7 is saga exclusive you potentially won’t be able to use Odin regardless but you can still use him on sector 6 that is still 25 rooms

I think the other issue with ranking is that if you’ve been playing for awhile you kinda have a champ ranked for every scenario. What’s the point of ranking a new champ when you have everything you need. It’s definitely harder to make the game more exciting. Not really the fault of the devs, it’s just the game being mature

I just feel that you sometimes don't enjoy this game... You think far too much how complex this game is and I think that's kinda a mistake. Of course you do as you want, but for example, in my case, I love to rank strongh champs and see what can I do with them, because this game have a lot of content besides BGrounds. I prefer ranking up champs to have fun in any content, and it's pretty obvious that they're very good champions for any content. And that's all, maybe you don't need to think too much... Just maybe....

My alliance mates recently had the existential “conversation”. If we’re not playing alliance events any more , then are we not an alliance anymore? We’ve played together for many years (8 - 10), so we decided to keep play boring alliance events just for sake of not filing for divorce after all these years. Not sure how BG’s can or will ever change to be alliance friendly. As for now it sure ain’t.

Masteries is a summoner progression thing, account level is a less important summoner progression thing (that I think should maybe effect things to an extent, they should raise the cap and incorporate some sort of further features). Can't really think of anything else though.

Kabam should make Battlegrounds so we can only use "specific" tag champs each season, so we aren't using the same champs over and over and over, just a suggestion

Battlegrounds has killed so many good ramp up champions. Literally every champion who isn't meant for battlegrounds is considered as 'mid' or a bad champion just because they can't nuke things in 30 seconds and have been named as 'slow champions'

As someone who's just under Cav, I never play BGs. It's not fun. What I find fun is grinding the story and ranking up characters that I find fun to use and look cool tbh. I don't care what people think about the current meta, I just do what I find is entertaining. Now, when I reach lvl 60 and I've done all the story, will I be in the same mind as this guy, idk. Probably, cuz what's left? I think Kabam should focus on more story based content and really incentivize the rewards for it than focusing on pvp. I didn't get this game for the competition, I got it cuz I love marvel and I want to play as my favorite characters. It's as simple as that.

BGs itself was fun when they didnt add so many ranks to climb, and the rewards felt rewarding. back when 6*s were at their prime the 6 star shards and the rank up materials felt so good to get even if you dont get what you want. now its just % based T6CC, underwhelming amounts of T6 and T3 alpha, and 7* shards that the price of make you want to pull your hair out. and when skill based matchmaking was a thing, people used BGs to not only climb in BGs, but to also grow their accounts faster than ever before. but since kabams really restricting nonsense its been hell to even play the gamemode at lower tier accounts and gives an unrealistic expectation to the much better ones. If all kabam had done was buff the rewards every 2-3 seasons, and make them feel rewarding for the time spent, the gamemode would be alive. we didnt need any major changes, just bug fixes and UI management. This gamemode FIXED the economy when it needed fixing. and when it needed fixing AGAIN (right after july 4th deals 2023), it never did. rewards werent buffed accordingly. and better yet we had a competition that ENCOURAGED spending and didnt allow fair play to those with awesome skill sets. THATS why the gamemode is dead. its the realistic truth that kabam doesnt want to admit.

I do agree actually. A lot of content creators currently just look at a new champ and just go "Not good for battlegrounds" and just kind of write them off. You cant even blame them because it currently feels like its the only gamemode that matters. War rewards, AQ, Event quest all have a much lower amount of possible rewards so why rank up champs for that when you can rank up champs for BGs. Personally think that BGs is the most boring content in the game, i love the rewards but basically just play it out of necessity rather than enjoyment.

I rank for myself, then try to win at BGs with the champs I love. That’s the challenge I enjoy

I know u have heard this so many times but I believe that now is the best time for a new acc as bg is tilting with the delay and u can relive all the old story quest and older forms of content

The spring of sorrow stuff there doing matters to … I base a lot of champs around that stuff I think the only things that missing is that is no paragon difficulty event quest or valiant gauntlet

That Herc-Onsl vid was such a bad example. The hits you took, in addition to Onsl abilities, applied a bunch of debuffs to you. The hits themselves did very little. The rest of Onsl abilities ticked you down. In the same way Void thicks your health away without a single touch, and much faster than even Onslaught. And you don't have to rank Juggs, for example even if your main focus is BGs. You can rank anyone. Depending on BG meta, not all my 7r3 are in my deck. Yours don't have to either.

I used to rank for variants, back when that was the fun new quests kabam made every so often, then I guess they scrapped it… don’t see why they can’t bring it back and cater the rewards to 6* 4 and 5 rank up materials and 7* 1-2 materials, even make it the only way to get 7* awakening gems would be so fun

I don’t think that ALL of us are focused on Battlegrounds. I think that it’s easy to get to that conclusion with the volume of BG related content in the community. I still love getting new champs… especially 7* that I haven’t had at a competitive level because I get it learn them. Champion how-to related content is still king in my book.

While I see your point and agree with parts of it I don’t think the BG champs are that different from the AW champs and just general OP champs everyone ranks up

I get that a lot of people enjoy this game mode, I personally don’t. It’s such a long process to wait for a match that’s ~fairly reliant on luck. Roster being one, who is drawn/to choose from. Each pick phase takes time. Waiting in between fights takes time. Having to stare down the opponent in between fights while waiting on the next round. The rewards are amazing which is so disheartening when I truly enjoy monthly EQ & SQ content and challenge content. The trophy tokens are the main rewards and they’re only rewarded on victory milestones every other day and ranking milestones. I wish instead I could play a difficult piece of content over and over again with the same feel/level of rewards. There’s nothing except everest content that can compare to battlegrounds rewards.

Honestly I started feeling like you just now that I got to Thronebreaker. It does feel like BG’s are something that is in focus and everything else just seems quite stale. Adding somethunf like PvE raids, Legacy modes or Tournament mode even would make everything feel much more alive.

How about hunting those deathless pieces are made an option in seeking them through playing story quest with certain conditions or champs. Similar to the CCP challenges. Hunting Deathless pieces is a smart one but some players have missed it coz they were not yet paragon and only way to shell 5k per piece for now.

You are screwed if you meet someone in BG with deck of Red Skull, Bullseye, Photon, Kindred, Maestro, The Serpent

Some sort of battle ground or game in general pass system would be nice. Rewards could be profile pics, titles, small amounts materials, shards could be something to work towards. The pass could last the whole saga season, and just not for logging in, it would be points gained from playing the game.

I grinded for that d1 7 star for like 6 hours last night and I opened Hawkeye of the end of it all it was so tragic

I may think it’s crazy when I hear content creators say they enjoy content I hate, but good on them. I don’t enjoy BG or any of the meta stuff because I don’t have champs, skills, or ai in my corner. I feel like I am playing less and less because everything takes a bunch of time to complete.

Yeah before when i came back i had champs ranked up so highand only needed a couple pf champs at that level and the rest were left behind, now i have to get everyone up to a decent rank to have a chance at winning those close matchups

This is one of the primary reasons I quit the game. Spending so much time and money chasing stars and sig levels on champs that I'm not even super fond of but meta for whatever content is relevant. When the meta changes, that all went for nothing on characters i dont enjoy. BGs amplifies this because of how often metas change.

Bang on! BG focussed defenders and also it's becoming worse with sagas. Every saga is creating chase defenders and paid players just go all out to get em. Necro was the last other big thing for which you could upgrade chanps

I agree with the whole idea you mentioned about ranking up champs for 6.2 itemless in that you only did it due to a self imposed challenge. I have been feeling the same way and recently decided to see how many champs I can solo Superior Kang with (hes ny favorite boss to fight) and so I have been ranking a lot of champs that I think are cool so that they are strong enough to reasonably solo him.

In my Opinion; one of the biggest reasons the game gets stale is because of content creators. You all are both a gift and a curse…you can simply watch a RU-vidrs videos for whatever content you need to complete and bam the content is now easier..secondly, most if not all the RU-vidrs are chasing the same champs for their roster. With that, all want the same champs! 1st (Scarlett Witch), 2nd (Blade), 3rd (Corvus Glaive), 4th (Hercules) now its Onslaught…

I really think kabam could get an easy slam dunk adding in “saga challenges”. Similar to carinas challenges, we could replay old content using only saga champs, or certain star levels or SOMETHING. We could complete them for rewards or they could even add “saga levels” that take us past 60 but gets reset after every saga. Would give use to xp boosts again, and literally playing ANYTHING helps progress. It really feels like sagas could be used to help reinvigorate the game. Great video BG! Really enjoyed this one, defo feel the same way about battlegrounds

It sounds like you struggle making decisions for yourself, you need the decision made for you by there being a need for the rank up. As you’re playing for yourself now, just take up the champs you enjoy playing, the byproduct is things will be somewhat easier, but the point is more the enjoyment of the game over strategic rank ups for game modes.

It's 50/50 for battlegrounds. I'm not a huge fan of it but also enjoy it from time to time. 😊

Bgs also has brought back some old champs like domino sunspot I mean you can use whoever you want it’s just as humans we like to follow the crowd see who c1-3 is using and use them who they rank that’s why I like trappy and you using the ducks and different champs

Battlegrounds was the best thing added to the game. 7* champs and Relics were the worst thing added to the game and the reason I quit.

I really love battlegrounds its my favorite game mode and I've ranked up mainly for it but I 100% agree with everything he is saying i miss how it used to be i miss how hard it was to grow and now if you play for an hour or 2 you have half a 7* I just think its falling a little bit.

I feel the same, I m not a big fan of the grind that s needed for bgs to stay competitive in the game, I think you kinda need to get in an alliance that push aw not at the highest but pretty close, with 5+2 bans and a global pretty started ranking some slept on champs for different fights to get you the perfect matchup, it keeps it interesting for me. I m sure that you maybe dont have the time or desire to try again top aw but you should give it a go 🤗 cheers and happy to see you, still lurking in vids and streams

People go where the best rewards are. That’s battlegrounds. If rewards were better elsewhere people would care about the other modes.

new pvp type content but instead of rewarding champions that finish fight super fast with no ramp up, it rewards champions that do truly shine by fully ramping up throughout a quest like morningstar or aegon. Imagine a mode where ramp up champions like that could stay ramped up for the entire duration of a season or between quests. it doesn't really even have to be ramp up champions specifically it can be something like a specific utility or different types of damage. There is so much depth to the gameplay of this game and yet most people stick to 1 game mode where only fast and high damaging champions shine alongside with completely busted defenders. i dont think battlegrounds are bad tho. i just think it has taken over the game for most people on high level and the game needs more variety

Me myself I rank for need or want. I r3 dust because she's fun to play for me. I say rank up who you want to. The deathless squad would be amazing to see r2.

The biggest mistake Kabam did was make story easy. Not saying further acts need to be like pre-nerf act 6, but theres nothing significant about any of the acts 7-8 except for the final chapter boss fights. In Act 6 you rmmbr every boss fight and u rmmbr every struggle getting through them. Kabam have made story braindead easy for no reason. I mean even the fact that they nerfed Act 6 a second time, completely unneccessary one nerf was fine. SO Kabam can solve the BGs rankup issue if they start making actual challenging external content like events and story

Bg is cool. I don’t rank up champs for it. I do have champs that are solid for any mode in the game, but I rank up champs to clear content or just to max them out.
