There's a video I saw of someone stretching his solo loop band as far as he possible could with all his strength, and the band didn't fail. Then he proceeded to lift 100 pounds with the loop of the weight going through the centre of his band and pulling with all his strength to lift the weight. The band didn't fail at all. I was amazed.

My silicone solo loop snapped right in the middle after 14 months of normal daily use. Watch dropped straight to the ground. I did buy another silicone solo loop band because I do love the convenience and “cleanability” of the product (work in a hospital).

I just bought an Ultra and was looking at the Solo Loop at the Apple Store today. They had a rack with every size, and I tried my size and the next sizes up and down on a few times. You do have to stretch it over your hand to put it on. It's discouraging to see how yours failed. However, I do think there are some important points to consider. First, you've used the same band that didn't fail for a much longer time, and it still hasn't failed, so maybe the orange one was defective. Second, this will be more or less likely to happen, I'm sure, depending on how big your hand is in comparison to your wrist. If your hand is very large and your wrist is small, you'll be buying a smaller band to fit your wrist and stretching it more to get over a large hand. Last, I can't quite picture how your watch snapped across the room on you. When I tried the Solo Loops on my Ultra at the Apple Store, as I was pulling it over my hand, I kept a firm grip on the band itself. Yours only failed on one end. If you were holding the band firmly, the most that should have happened is that the watch would have snapped around your fingers, still attached on one side to the band, but not escaped your grip. Of course, the band should not have failed this way, but could you have been so used to putting it on quickly that, after hundreds of times of doing so, you were pulling it on harder than need be and not holding onto the band well as you should? Even if I had a band fail in this way, I just can't picture losing my grip on it. To give credit where credit is due, one of the reasons that won't happen to me is that I watched your video and learned of the risk, so I thank you very much for that!

It could indeed have just been bad luck on the orange band, although searching around online you’ll see there are others. I agree if I have a strong grip on it and it failed it might not project, if you are completely consistent in this then yes it could prevent the Watch launching, not something I even thought I’d have to consider. I will say when it snapped it was so fast there was no chance to react or catch it. It really was like a slingshot with the mass of the watch.

@@ElevationEveryWeekend You shouldn't have to think about it failing in that way. I'm pretty sure it was meant to withstand however you were putting it on. If not, your other Solo Loop band would have broken long ago. Your video serves as a great warning to not be too trusting of it while putting it on. I was already a bit wary when trying it at the Apple Store, and now I'll always be careful with it. I'm glad that it broke under tension, though, because if the band had broken when you were just riding a bicycle or walking around, I'd be much more concerned. Your advice to inspect these Solo Loops periodically is also good. I used to work with a dog rescue. You'd be surprised how many dogs are found with their collars on and part of a leash attached to them.

Watching the Apple Watch Ultra durability tests here on youtube, you wont care so much if it fails unless swimming maybe bc you cant find it. Ultra can shoot across concrete without a scratch so I got the black solo loop for it. Dislike every band it comes with.

Yes it seems much more bomb proof than the typical designs. I like the Alpine Loop but also appreciate you can still use other bands with it

@@ElevationEveryWeekend Yeah I've shattered two normal apple watches before and swore them off just used dumb garmin fenix to monitor my HR which are built like tanks until this Ultra came out. Wish it had a little bigger battery though because ditching iphone and running 100% cell all day would be nice but for me that only lasts 12-15 hrs that way. The alpine is just ok. like all notched bands you may want a tightness in middle of notch and it's not there....
