It’s still crazy to me how the Lich only carries like 10 more troops than a regular Phantom. Think should be carrying at least a hundred troops with the size of this thing and how spacious it is when you walk into it in Halo 4
I understand it was because of the limitations of Xbox 360, but I really would like to see more covenant in halo 4, say what you will but the idea of the storm covenant in that game was actually decent, then halo 5 happened.
Jul ‘Mdama’s assault carrier, Song of Retribution, was present for the first battle of Requiem, so it was probably the one deploying them. We can see it in the bonus halo 4 terminal with all the CRS cruisers when the Forward Unto Dawn shows up
I am partial to the concept that a lich could be torpedo boat adjacent. Give it some plasma torpedo tubes, some smaller ship to ship weaponry around the place and you have a perfect analog.
I like to equate these to a Bradley, in that it can transport troops fairly well and provide decent covering fire, but is ineffective against anything other then infantry.
I still have a love for the Halo 2 phantom. Not only was it a huge step up from the spirit dropship in Halo 1 with its troops dropping out through a gravlift being a more stunning way to add enemies to the fight, but they were also the most imposing dropship. They weren’t destructible like in future games and had 3 guns that made them a persistent enough threat to make me duck and cover if I didn’t have the rockets to knock the guns off. Then the inverse, the level the arbiter and quarantine zone where a phantom gives you support, and its so satisfying when the big ship with a bunch of guns is shooting others instead of you. Would be a treat to see those kinda phantom again.
Fun fact: The Phantom in Halo 2 has rear doors that never see use. This is how the ones at the docks at High Charity function. They originally would have been functional but in the final game are only part of the design. Imagine though, if the idea had been adopted, and Phantoms had 3 separate directions to board and disembark from, on top of the gravity lift.
The Lich is a big boi that brings as much firepower of a Scarab but without the boarding issue when it doesn't sit in jetpack range or with its grav lift activated. The Banished one looks the coolest and I love it the most, but still like the OG one too. Especially Pavium's Lich Vanguard. Your Lich is cool too, like a gunship rather than a redundant civilian transport.
i still love how all the covenant and UNSC vehicles have some sort of universal naming system, like covie vehicles are named after paranormal/mythical things(except the brute ones i think), like a lich, banshee, or a ghost. and the UNSC vehicles are named after animals, scorpion, hornet, warthog. i think its real cool
I was also thinking of replacing those two bay doors with a secondary weapon that would be less destructive than the beam, but more destructive then the plasma turrets, as well as tertiary weapon meant for anti-infantry, like the phantom turrets. It turns it into more of a flying fortress, which is the only way I can think of making it as usable as a few phantoms. I also had an idea for Halo Wars to turn it into the Covenant's version of the Elephant from Halo Wars 1. It would activate it's gravity lift and you can use it to train infantry units. I would make it be a replacement for the Scarab for a leader as it would be considered an upgrade by my logic.
The Lich I actually really like, it's like the only Halo 4-5 era design I actually like. And I'd say the Lich is more comparable to the D20 Heron from Halo Wars, which is 127.7m used for base deploying, while the Lich does the same but in Halo Wars 2. Both are also too large to fit in standard ship hangars, Herons are stored under the... er "wings"? of the Spirit of Fire.
You homebrewed a gunship variant of the Lich. In one of my stories, crews would make some slight modifications to turn the open sides into bays for holding Banshees, making it a much more effective 'world patroller' as it can use the Banshees for covering more area in their patrols as well as being able to deploy its own escort or more effectively assist smaller dropships as a landing support vessel, coordinating air support so the troops had a better chance of getting to their targets safely. In the civilian sector, these modified Liches would often be used for search and rescue or policing work.
funnily enough the troop transport was just a bonus usually the lich is a F.O.B/base deployer and munitions and tech carrier. My favourite non unsc troop carrier in halo is the spirit aka the tuning fork with it's best look being in halo 5, as phantoms can't deploy vehicles properly.
I love the feeling of “this is my first time watching this guy and im only 5 minutes into the video. Looks like ill subscribe and watch his other content for the rest of the day.”
I like equate the Lich to like a Cutter used by the Coast Guard. Primarily designed to patrol friendly territory and armed well enough to interdict and defeat nearly any other common craft available to civilians businesses. Plus the Lich can act as a weapons platform or heavy lift equipment depending on its intended role by the group it's serving.
So glad I'm not the only one who loves the Lich, it's such a unique Covenant vehicle and I am always happen whenever we see one. Kinda wish we had one provide air support for us when we stormed Sunaion in Halo 5 instead of just dropping us off and leaving
I hope they include a huge armed to the teeth Lich in the next Halo game if they really are not keen on implementing Scarabs again. At least with the Lich you don't have to worry about walker physics and it can just, hover around deleting stuff with the Scarab cannon. Also forcing the player to find a way to take it by surprise and board it or do something to make it land or lower its altitude for a bit for boarding action, been thinking that perhaps it could use a Scarab missile battery on the top to act similarly to the scarab's AA turret, if it is too much then remove missile tracking so it acts more like the AA turret of Scarabs. It definitely could work as a Scarab replacement for the foreseable future if they really don't want to make a Scarab because, as always, physics.
the lich reminds me of the ships you can build and fly in warframe, would be cool to have it deploy into space and have some naval infantry divulge from it to board other ships.
Here i thought the lich was kinda abndoned after halo 4 since i didnt realize we ever saw any in halo 5 or halo wars 2 they rlly under utilize them, i would love to have another battle with these flying ships with scarab canons
I feel as if they ran out of time with the Lich in 4, there's an old tag build for 4 which shows an opentop 2 floor covenant aircraft around the same size as the lich but very unfinished, I feel if they had more time to think about the lich, it would've been able to have a proper boss battle around it. Like having the ability to damage its engines in order to make it land, destroying the head projector in order to get it to flee, or literally blasting the thin armor at the bridge in order to kill the command crew. Fighting it in the air (Halo 4 was meant to have VTOL wasps, hawks, phaetons, etc.) It also has too few armaments for it's size like you said, imo the shade turrets should be guarding the lich flanks rather than the plasma cannons, and atleast the shade turret has a energy shield variant allowing the gunner to stay alive in zero G if he has no EVA harness. although that would analogous to WWII era ball turret gunners.
It was kind of cool to fight in it I wish you had more time to be in it, it was like a flying version of a scarab to me and I love fighting on a big moving vehicle
I kinda like the idea that the lich isn't very functional, Its a fairly common mistake in military vehicle design since we started building them to end up mounting such a big gun to a combat platform that the size of the armament ends up getting in the way. Like the Lich is a heavy drop-ship with a star-ship grade primary weapon and shielding rated for slip-space, Two things it really doesn't need for the job it does. Thats a mistake army's make all the damn time so the covenant shouldn't be any different (would also explain why it primarily used as a planetary patrol/policing ship, perhaps the covenant knew they had a bit of a pink elephant on their hands so relegated it to a job where its heavy armour, really scary primary weapon and effective enough troop compliment could get the job done without the thing ever having to get into real combat)
Wasn’t it so that the Lich materialized in realspace at the exact spot a shortsword was flying? Therefore the Lich kind of spawned around a short sword which crashed inside the hanger?
Perhaps the Lich can dock to hard points on Cruiser's outer hull? That would explain safely "piggybacking" other ships slipspace rupture by being within their bubble.
The strange thing with the lich you showed on halo 4 mission reclaimer is the gravity lift was green, so im not sure why it's now somehow purple in this footage. Edit: ok my bad it can be both colours.
Really liked the video since this is a space ship type channel can you cover the titanfall space ships. I have yet to see anyone actually cover the ships of the sci fi series
1:41 Tell me you've never heard of the entire Battletech Franchise without tellng me you've never heard of the entire Battletech franshise....or even be all that acquianted with science fiction outside of what's in video games.
Hey wouldn’t it make sense that they were pulled from reserve. Being that the covenant and swords of sanghelios both probably have few phantoms while the banished still field plenty while atriox uses it for its superior armor
1:51 isn't the albatross larger? Or the spirit of fire ones or do you mean slip space capable dropship? Also 12:06 this exists in SPV3, there is legit if I recall 2 alpha base levels
Oh, okay, well thanks for the heads up! You are one of my favorite content creators andI love watching your videos whenever a new one comes out!@@gammacompanymark
Several of both kinds of phantom turrets, the rapid fire ones from H2, and the heavier one from H4, on the bottom, three shades on both sides, with three FR shades, also on both sides. Slap on some energy shield walls for the gaps, and you're set.
@@ReiMari12 Eh, that's not really needed, you can still use the grav lift, just have those tiny turrets the Lich already has, and point them at the entrance.
@@ReiMari12 I mean, you can shoot it's belly all day, from the ground, and get nowhere, it's pretty well armored, despite it's appearance. And it's not like it hovers high enough on the regular for air attacks to do much to it's belly.
While I like the modifications you made to the design in the end, I would alter it still. For starters I would place the weapons from that lower bay to the upper bay and convert that lower one into a small through hangar for banshee craft. It would be about the size to house probably 6-8 banshees, adding a dedicated escort squadron to it. That or remove the bays altogether as Master Chief just showed the issues with them. Otherwise, the mounted weapons on the ventral side I believe would help immensely in survivability and providing much needed heavy fire support.
No but your actually so right. The Lich was the best vehicle 343 created, and I think it was a decent successor to the scarab. its criminal we didn't see more of it. It was fun lil flying area to take down.
I will admit, I wish we got to see a Banished one in Halo Infinite, far more than any other Banished vehicle that didn't make the cut. Would've been cool if we saw Chief board it in a similar way to how he did the one in Halo 4 that he stabbed
I wonder if the reason they're not very well-armed was to intentionally stifle the ability for merchant vessels to take part in actual combat, or that its beam takes up so much power that it can only support a handful of portable plasma turrets. I do love the idea of the Lich as a superheavy air support unit, brought in more for the purpose of destroying stuff and its troop capacity being secondary. The banished lich is pretty dope tho
20:06 I’m sure models like this exist somewhere….right…..right? Man a gun-Lich boss fight would slap though, just imagine fighting a flying scarab in a tank or somthing
