@@BenitaLarsson cant you just change the whole switch system...It might always be at the back of your mind even if you dont often use the lights, think it might be worth changing it up if you can so it stops bugging you! That would be the kind of thing that would annoy me so I completely get you! The flat is beautiful and spacious, I like how you've kept so much of the previous furniture and just repurposed it/are using some pieces in different areas etc Thanks for sharing it with us!

Benita I had a "friend" who came to my new home and for the first 10 minutes all they did was point out all the things they would have done or "how they could never live in such a stark/cold home". I told them I will do them one better and that they will never have to be subjected to such offensive surroundings and that the front door in which they walked through was an exit as well. Let us remember that the button reads "comment" not "critique".

When we first moved into our house the bedroom light was on the same switch as the ceiling fans. If you turned off the lights you turned off the fans. It was summer and hot so we needed the fans to sleep so every night I had to climb on the bed to unscrew the lightbulbs so I could turn off the light. It was a joyous day when we finally got that fixed.

We recently found (were found by) a stray cat who is a dead ringer for your tuxedo. He even has that little side moustache white mark. He is on the couch with me right now, looking fat and happy, apparently adjusting very well to his new indoor life and really enjoying his new human servants. Your apartment is lovely and the neighborhood looks fantastic.

An all white kitchen, with a light grey marble counter top, like in your last apartment will look great! I can see how frustrating it must be to keep wiping those mat cabines. Also about the electricals! Once you have all this settled, you place will be awesome.

You've just given me the info I needed to tell my landlord (I'm a renter) why I don't want a smart lighting system. Here in NYC they're becoming the rage but I personally don't want to have excessive technology throughout my apartment because I have no interest in making my living space more complicated than it needs to be. We have the Phillips Hue system and uses an internet connection with a Wi-Fi router to communicate to the individual lightbulbs with voice or programming. Otherwise turning the switch on and off works as well. It’s been awesome! Especially the color bulbs and dimming options. The one in this apartment sounds like an absolute nightmare.

I like the feature of a hidden exhaust fan and love the decorative crown moldings and the medallions around the ceiling lights - they add character. White cabinetry in the kitchen will make a big difference with the ambiance and like you I would also take it apart and redo; so true that once you see it you can't be unseen❤ Your new home is looking rather welcoming already!

I'm so glad you mentioned the ill fitting kitchen. It was bugging me too, haha. I really wish we had the large light switches in Australia. Ours are tiny, only one finger fits on the surface. Looking forward to the upcoming changes. So sweet to see Bonus getting cuddles.

Hello Benita! 😃 I love your neighborhood - everything is walking distance, such cute shops! I really like the layout of your new place - lots of light! I love the color of your kitchen - I guess I like dark and gloomy - but there is enough light for me. I love rainy days, maybe that explains why I love that color. ❤ The changes that you will be making to your kitchen area will look beautiful! Oh Benita that’s exactly why my husband and I are avoiding the Canadian version of a smart phone- security & lights plus heating all depends on the internet which goes out occasionally and always unexpectedly!!! PS the white kitchen will be lovely!

I know what you mean, my friend’s home in Canada is all on an app for the heating, so he can put the heat down and up when he is away and have it just right when he comes home. I just can’t get used to computerized switches. My old apartment I live in still has a fuse box, no breakers. But I am renting so hope change on that coming in the future

Disappointing that negative Nellies are even part of your community since most of us have so much in common regarding style and way of life as you. Smart devices aren't always smart! Your lighting situation and cabinetry would drive me nuts. I like simple but efficient and it can ruin your whole day when those go wrong. But, lovely apartment and great neighborhood! Charming.

I love the openness of your new apartment and the beautiful neighbourhood you’re now living in. I think that a white kitchen and lighter coloured walls will give the apartment a huge facelift. It will really bring the light in. I love your bond with Bonus. Now that Mini is gone, you’re probably forming an even closer bond than what you already had. I guess you’re both missing Mini. I actually like the color of the kitchen and the bedroom! It adds depth and character into a lighter apartment, also the color is very natural, as If you’re in the forest! 🌳 works well with all the wood furniture you have. I used to love white everything, but I’m so sick of it personally, so I enjoyed your new videos, that were a bit more contrasty. But light situation is absolutely disappointing, it would drive me craaaaazy.

I love your approach of ' focus on the very real positives, have a plan to fix the less than perfect ' - new walks, friends on hand, that cosiness of moving back to an old stomping ground - and making the glorious bones of your home even more stylish, elegant and personal. Most interesting. It always takes some time of living in a new home to work out what needs updating or changing of leaving as it is. To live in your old stomping grounds is wonderful and being so much closer to family and friends is so important and very exciting to be able to get out daily and just wander about in the city. The cat is going to be so happy to be able to get outside when the weather improves and you have the cattio in place as I am sure it misses its dear friend. I hope you have a wonderful day. 🙂

So pleased to see your video pop up when I logged on this evening from Canada. Loved seeing all your +‘s and -‘s about your new abode. So happy for you in your new space in your old neighbourhood. It’s good to be in a place that feels so familiar and “ at home”. You know you even look more at ease and relaxed in your new space. I wondered about your nice tall windows and how weather tight they are. I noted your nice warm sweater as you went about filming. Here in Canada, I wear sweaters and a vest indoors alll winter long and often well into spring season. It’s often well into June before our weather is to be trusted without sweaters. I will double check the weather stripping before next fall! I did quickly switch one strip out already and it made a big difference. Can’t keep the windows open to do it all mid winter though.

I love your new apartment. I can also understand the wooden floors problem as I have the same floors in my flat. Nothing stands straight, and event if I manage to level something up (my fridge, for instance), with time it "moves". But just like you - I love old buildings 😊

So happy you are near family and friends now. I too have an old apartment with wonky lines. Its quirky, but after you get it all fixed the way you want, you will be set in a beautiful space! I like your new kitchen ideas. I always thought I wouldn't like a smart house, I'd rather just do things manually. Now I know for sure that it's more trouble than it's worth! I used to like the idea of a matt kitchen, but after seeing how much light they absorb, maybe not. Your floors are so pretty, and the high ceilings make the space seem open and comfortable.

Benita, you really make any house a home! I have been watching your videos for several seasons now and rarely comment however I couldn’t avoid applauding you for your optimistic views. We have similar kitchen set up and my oven is a bit crooked a gap between the top of the oven and cabinetry but hey, it is what it is! Thankful we have a roof over our heads. :) I have all white cabinets and adore your dark cabinets. My white countertops are always being wiped off - crumbs etc are so noticeable. Love the music in this video. Keep up your vids! :)

Thanks Benita, I love and look forward to all your vlogs but this series about your move are particularly interesting to me. Talking about the best and worst is a great idea. I live in Australia and have lived in detached homes and units for more than 60 years. We are now working towards moving to an apartment closer to the centre of our city and our daughter and her family. Unfortunately, many apartments here are small and poorly designed. I really like older style apartments but they generally do not have an elevator and are common in the suburbs we are looking in. Your video gave me a list of things to look out for but your approach to the problem areas also inspired me. I love your creative and practical approach to turning a space into a beautiful, liveable home.

I completely agree the lighting situation would be so frustrating! Just give me old fashion switches any day. lol I do like the shade of green on your cabinets but I get the desire to have it lighter in there and the spots would drive me nuts too. Great new place!!

Such character in older buildings and the neighbourhood looks great too. The lighting system though … oh my goodness! The usual thing of the idea being good on paper and then over complicated when applied to real life. The kitchen will look awesome once the changes are done. Hello my lovely friend, love , love your videos. I'm with you totally on people giving you some slack.... take your time. We just recently moved into a newer condo and don't regret it at all. Great information. Am in the process of downsizing to a really cute little house. There will be lots of work to be done. I was looking into a ‘smart’ system to control lighting and heating. Now I shall just use the built in timers which are not dependent on Wi-Fi. The tip about the dark oven was also really helpful. Thank you. Looking forward to seeing how things progress. Hej då 😊

Your new place is sooo lovely! Those floors are gorgeous 😍-and I can’t wait to see what you do with that balcony❤️-also the kitchen cabinet color change in the kitchen will make it more “you”! And fixing that wonky install will make it feel more elegant. BUT that lighting issue would make me INSANE!! I got angry just watching you fiddle with it!!! WHY???? How hard is it to turn on a light? Why make it complicated?? Ugh!!!! I would have an electrician in there 5 minutes after I saw that mess! 😂😂lol… So looking forward to the future updates and as you turn this into your style. Love so much your new apartment!! The wooden floor, the windows, it's amazing!! I like old houses too, I moved in my new apartment less than one year ago, and only living day by day it is possibile to see the things that are not fixed. For me is the same, still a few things to fix that didn't notizie before buying. Enjoy this beautiful home!
