Honestly, you must've never lived in flats with shared laundry before. People that leave their laundry and expect other people not to move their clothes out of the way are diluted. It's not fair when everyone has to share the same washers. If you don't want people touching your things because it's "gross" then set a timer and get your clothes out of the wash right when they're done, ya know? It's pretty simple.
most random thing that happened to me - there was a big house party which i didn't wanna get involved with because i needed to do some work - minding my own business in my room next minute a drunk girl swings open the door asking to use the toilet with her mate - before i could even respond she vomited all over my floor... then leaves great!

hi, I was stressing about halls, noises and for me being really home sick and not fitting in worried me. However after watching your video gives me a lot more confidence and that actually the negatives to halls my just be a learning curve for me to deal with people and be more layed back and sociable
For food shopping buy from asda and get it delivered (£25 min order and like £2 delivery fee) and order like every 2 weeks, or when you run out, for non essentials
This is precisely why I’m so happy I got a job when I was young. I saved and saved and saved, then when I got a place near university I had none of these problems.
Hi, this was a really lovely video but I just wanted to say for anyone in the comments a bit worried about some of the negatives, my experience in halls so far hasn't included a lot of these! I've never been woken up by noise in the building and have more than enough cupboard/fridge/freezer space etc, and I'm in a large set of halls. A lot rang true but remember every halls will be different :)

I wish I could experience some of this when I go to uni but unfortunately I have my own home already and now I'm going to uni so I won't get to experience this. So thanks for the video, I think these experiences are the closest I'll get to it. x
Omg the dishes bit was so true like I had 1on1 same experience it's weird. I ended up eating off of paper plates so I could tell people to fuck off when they tried to blame me

I once came back from a night out to burnt toast and a blood trail running through the kitchen, down the corridor and down the stairs. I remember me and a mate thought we were detectives and started asking if they saw anyone bleeding around Fallowfield. (We were still quite drunk). Turns out the guy accidentally cut himself when making toast and then walked to AE.
I'm starting uni this year and like you, I'm not a big fan of going out clubbing etc and I don't drink a lot, so I was worrying if I didn't want to go out on a particular night when everyone else is do you feel left out/excluded/judged etc or are people not bothered by it?
You will get some stick for it at the start, but people understand. There will be other people who are like you and you can have chill nights in with them. You will be absolutely fine xxx
Oh my god, i have just finished my first term and i am crying at this! Sent it to all my flatmates, the cleaning lady stealing the plates, knifes and forks and the maintenance man. All identical to my uni, hate the fact that they can just get into your room, i never woke up so i would just be sleeping waaaaah!
I find the cleaning thing quite funny, because recently when i have a hangover from the night out before the next morniing i just like to clean....so this could be interesting!
@@l.n.9462 Honestly. It was better at college. I didn't get bullied at college. People just left me alone and my confidence improved there. But at uni, I wasn't exactly bullied, but my flatmates both years made me too uncomfortable to enter the kitchen unless it was empty so I would wait to eat past midnight sometimes. Like... I kinda felt like a target again and people went out their way to make me feel outcasted

@@gamesmaster1060 It's going pretty well actually, been a bit shit because of covid but we all get along. Though we dont hang out with each other. Halls has been interesting, i woke up one morning to find pasta in my jar of nutella and a sign that said "wet pussy" in the corridor with eggs smashed all over the place. walls are very thin you really can hear EVERYTHING. It's been a good experience for the most part.

Did you have to pay for your laundry? I remember having to put pound coins and 20 p pieces aside for the washers and dryers as Reception ( for post/maintenance etc...) opposite the laundrette wouldn’t give change! Also the Science students on my floor who would be out all day at lectures, come back, make a curry then go out rock-climbing and leave all their pots and pans in the sink! I am not the cleanest person in the world, but I used to wash up for them a lot, and to appease the cleaners, I bought them a box of chocolates for Christmas...
IMO, most important thing about your flat is that you end up with a flat of people that actually bother to talk. I didn't have a single english person but they all spoke and hung out etc, got really close. Friend of mine on same course ended up in a flat with (Don't mean to sound racist here) 5 other asian people who left stinky fish all in the fridge and never ever spoke or left their rooms.
If you've got the money, I don't see why it shouldn't be. I wish I had. My halls were shit (shit people, as well as shit halls) If you feel that's what you'd prefer, look into it, seriously. You're more likely to make proper friends by joining societies, halls are a lottery and a lot of universities seem to let anyone in these days.

Idk if I should move out 😂 seems from your experiences is just gonna be me being frustrated with everyone... Ps my friend got unlucky and hes sharing with 6 people who barely even talk to eachother. Not to put anyone off thats prolly just his luck and im still hoping to move to halls just these last few months of A levels
do you know if anyone of your flatmates smoked in the halls/room? does the alarm really go off? I don't want to get up and go outside every time I wanna smoke...specially late at nights. is there any way around this?
the fire alarms are super sensitive, in my halls the alarm in the kitchen was only heat but the rooms were sensitive. people did it in their bathrooms but i wouldn't recommend it because if you get caught you get in a lot of trouble. Its worth it just to walk outside x

If you’re not the person you want to be, you can change that. Got too much weight? Exercise and eat healthy. Got Acne? Use gentle face cleansers and moisturize. Got no Friends? Get out there and start a conversation. You got to help yourself, because if I’m honest, it’s no one’s job to do so. You’re stronger than you think. Read a self help book. They work like wonders to boost your confidence. Go get what you want.
The hearing sex is so accurate. I remember freshers week I came back on like my third night and helped my room mate go to bed as he was like really drunk and as I got into bed there was people having sex on both sides of my room 😂
Hi Phoebe, thanks for the video. I'm an American uni student who is coming to exchange for a year at the U of Nottingham. It'll be my first time in the dorms, as I share a flat with a good friend here in the States. I'm quite outgoing but don't drink and am nervous about finding friends who don't drink or go clubbing...any tips on that?
There will be so many people who prefer to not drink and go out as much dw! i was exactly the same and although you might get a bit of stick from others at the start, they'll soon understand and you can just do what makes you feel comfortable. Have the best time!
i say its never too late, make choices you won't regret and if uni is something you want to pursue absolutely do it. you'll thank your future self for putting your wants first
