Made these this morning. Super easy and they fried up perfectly done in the middle and throughout. I used a lemon juice/vanilla glaze and it was perfect. Hubby loved them. First time fritter maker - thank you for the delicious recipe!
I’m here because after buying a package of apple fritters from Sam’s Club that had absolutely NO apple chunks (yes, I tore them apart looking for some after realizing it), I decided I’m going to have to make them myself. I subscribed because I, too, like the way you get right to it. I’m excited to spend all day watching your other videos. LOL
I live in Vegas and recently visiting my sister and family in Texas and had Apple Fritters from a couple different places and hark no apples and yet they thought they were great?? You gotta have apples bottom line
I love preppy kitchen because he’s the perfect mix between gourmet, and home food. He asked everything very quality and attention to detail but puts those loving touches on the recipes :)
Do you have a recipe for those crullers?? Been looking for both recipes for a while. I wanted the closest thing to donut shop fritters and crullers, which are both my favorites. Can't wait to try this recipe. Yum!!
I made this recipe for breakfast today and they taste amazing! I do not have a Dutch oven pot, so I used a frying pan. My fritters did not turn out round and plump like his, but were still extremely tasty. I did not use water in my glaze. Instead I used milk, vanilla, and lemon juice. The added vanilla gave it that extra something that made these so much better 🥰.
I also love fresh ground nutmeg. One of the reasons it is better (beyond the freshness aspect) is that the outer shell of the nutmeg "nut" is actually the spice mace and the inner part is the actual nutmeg. Double spice from your nutmeg nut for a fantastic flavor! :)
I have made these twice now and both times they were amazing! Actually everything I’ve ever made from preppy kitchen has been just delicious. This time I was out of lemons so instead of the lemon juice I used a little bit of apple cider vinegar. Un flipping believable. So good! Also, this recipe is pretty darn easy. Comes together really quick. Great weekend brunch item to make. Thank you!!
Just made these today. St. Patrick's Day, 3/17/2024. They turned out really good. Just wanted to mention, no where in the printed recipe did it state how much melted butter to add, however, you added melted butter on the video. I took a guess and added about a generous tablespoon. I never would have known that, if I had not watched the video first. Thank you. We are enjoying the fritters.
Hi John, I just discovered your channel tonight. I really like how you explain about the ingredients, you don’t hurry along, which makes it easy to follow, at least for me. Being that your mother is from Mexico, I’m sure she has taught you how to cook delicious recipes. My mother was from Mexico too, and she was a wonderful cook, she had soo much passion for cooking. I use to ask her why her food was always soo flavorful and delicious? She said because she cooked with love. Thank you for sharing your love for cooking, it shows, and I can’t wait to make these. Cheers!
I just made these and they were flawless and delicious! I always change up recipes tweaking this and that, but this recipe is perfect as is! My only advice for a novice is to not make them too big, spread it out because a couple of mine turned out looking like Chinese chicken balls and it took a while to cook the centre. Give it at least 2-3 minutes per side to make sure the inside gets perfectly cooked with oil that’s not too hot as to burn the outside.
I used to get an amazing apple fritter bread from Walmart of all places. I used to make it into the best french toast. They no longer sell it. I wish you had a recipe for apple fritter bread that I could make into french toast.
Hey John I am so happy right now These Apple Fritters are mmmmm Let tell all you people these are so good that you could make a decent living selling These Apple Fritters Thanks John
My kids and I have really been missing our Sunday trips to the donut shop before or after church. And this recipe was so simple and delicious. I didn’t have nutmeg, but I had cinnamon, and I only had one apple, but we make due with what we have. Still came out fluffy and delicious!!
Definitely pronounced crawl er !!! Thank you so much for your recipes. You are so precise and pretty ocd when it comes to presentation which I totally appreciate!
Omg i have everything for this recipe.. 100 having these fritters this weekend!! .. And fritter is the first thing i order at a donut shot.. But then of course followed by a buttermilk bar 😊
I've made these and used can apple pie filling .I put margarine , and a tad of cinnamon in the filling . I used self rising flour . After I brown them I rolled them in powder sugar . Very good 👍
When I was little my Dad used to make apple or corn fritters for me as a special treat. Fond memory. Now that I'm reflecting on those days in the kitchen, I can actually smell the faint aroma of the fresh fritters. Yeast doughnuts were Mom's specialty.
I'm from Brooklyn, New York and I say Cral-la...But spelled the right way is Cruller...Here in N.Y. our Crullers are shaped into a long twisted fried (donut)..Some are covered in sugar, or some have a sugar glaze over it.
Now this is my All Time favorite. I luv Apple Fritters so much. I will definitely be making these for sure. Fresh strong Coffee with Hazelnut or Irish Cream and a good Fritter, u cannot even talk to me until the indulgence is over. WOW, what a moment. Luv u John. I cannot wait to see those Beautiful boys again. Keep up the great work, but that great smile though, priceless.
As someone who is going on to culinary arts in school, this is definitely something I would try this way since I already know how to make it from school. But with the sugar one.
I” m from Wyoming, my parents from Wisconsin and Illinois/Florida. I wondered if you were talking about “crullers” which is the only pronunciation I ever heard! I hope this recipe at my brother’s in Denver.
I just love your videos...have used your recipes along and they are perfect!!!love your sense of humor and just to say, your my favorite cook..your awesome.please keep making these videos....I'm eve,the wife and I love to bake....
I also love my fritters a little well done with crispy edges. Glad you brought that up for thos who haven´t eaten that way. Love your videos adn recipes.
Thanks John! I like how in your recipe you have more Apple than better. When you go to a coffee shop and you order as you know they dip it in the sugar glaze as well there's too much sugar in the batter and is way more better than there is Apple. Sometimes there's hardly any Apple. I can't have gluten very often so yeah maybe every now and then would be nice but I think this recipe I could definitely do and I'll just treat the sugar that works for me. I always yep on your videos I always like the bite in the end I like to see your expression we eat and I'm going up that recipe is for us! My husband watches you too. Now he knows where I get the recipes from okay thanks so much you take care XX
First of all let me say I love your videos. Several times I’ve heard you say that you give the kids a special treat after they eat their real food. I think that’s the wrong way to approach it. I believe that makes the children think that all those special treats are the good stuff and the real food isn’t. When I was raising my daughter who is now 28 years old I thought about this a lot. From the start I gave her lots of choices on her high chair tray. Veggies, fruit, protein, sweets. Till this day she is not a big dessert eater but the best part is she LOVES all kinds of healthy food. She is naturally thin and although it’s hard to say now I don’t think she’ll ever have a weight problem which is a lot to be said for someone growing up in America. I limited the fast food only because I cooked a lot but she did have some. She still prefers her mom to cook over going to any restaurant or fast food place. I’m sharing this with you because it really works!! BTW we have been using the same approach with my grandson who is 9. It is working with him too. When he goes out to dinner with his friends we give him money because he doesn’t want the gross food on the “kids” menu. He wants a Chicken Cesar Salad.
I just discovered your videos the other day!!!! I can't wait to try your macarons and apple fritters!!! My husband loves apple fritters!!!! Thank you for making recipes easy!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Love your channel! Made these yesterday using honeycrisps...delicious! Half with cinnamon sugar and half glazed. I'll always go for glazed but my family prefers the cinnamon sugar. I reside in the CRUEL-LER Camp...
I have watched almost every single one of your videos and u really inspire me to start a new hobby, baking!! I finally got my self a stand mixer and a baking kit with a bunch differnt tools Iam so exited!!!
When you poured that melted butter and said wow, wow, wow; the recipe suddenly became more delicious. I am literally craving a donut, but I have no apple in the house right now.
Hey Pretty...I just made apple cider donuts, and I wanted a wet glaze instead of a sandy sugar. So I used powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla, and some cinnamon. To cut down on the sweetness, instead of lemon juice, I used apple cider vinegar...about a tablespoon. It's not like white vinegar at all, it has an apple flavor, and some vinegar taste, but it's perfect.
I so enjoy your RU-vid station and cookbooks! You seem so comfortable to be around like an old friend! 😊 I also grew up on the West Coast in Carlsbad, CA. I now live in Virginia. I grew up saying Kruller with /Krull rhyming with dull... /Krull-er. Everywhere I've been in the East Coast, I have only ever heard it pronounced the same way. Never have I heard it pronounced Cruel-er. It can be spelled with either a /c/ or a /k/. It's a French word, but this type of doughnut is found in many countries.❤Nancy
Fantastic! Love the ease of this recipe, and I gorged on several and could not stop eating. Also tried your Christmas Tree cupcakes with the ice cream cones which were a huge hit over the holidays.
I love your show, you have an awesome way that I can understand your directions, thank you, and it was so entertaining when you were out with your trees discussing the different kinds.
Ok so I do the pancake mix recipe. Cut up apples and mix in bowl with pancake mix and add cinnamon. Very yummy. I had the problem though of the fritters being too oily. I see from you its how I was cooking them. Thank you...this was funny as heck to watch 😂👍🇺🇸 in a good way 🤗🤗
I've watched probably a dozen or so of your cooking videos - I like your food, I like your happiness, I like your channel - so I actually now "follow" you on FB. I don't do that - so feel privileged being the only cooking channel I follow! X
I am from the East Coast and we call them “craw-lers” when I was a kid I thought they called them that because they crawl out of your plate haha jk. But in all seriousness I think you are an Apple expert! I loved all your Apple recipes so far Apple Pie has been my favorite but I will surely give these a try!! Love your channel your personality just brightens my day!! 🙏🏼❤️
