I have always ridden in the deserts of California.From age 6-40! With that said listen to our man here mostly. But if your a 3 wheeler guy. Keep air in them. Mr. MRC, I'm just having fun. I just want to show us true 3 wheeler guys have your back are crazy dudes! I found a 86 250r the other day for 500 bucks the other day but it needs a lot😬 I'm going to get it running today on my day off👍

Thanks for the kind words, tire choice depends on a lot of factors, sand, mud, snow, dirt, clay, rocks. Weight, rider skill, power. All of these are factors to consider in tire choice.

On my 85 250es Big Red, the most pulling tire in the mud that I had was a Dick Cepek spider track. I think it was a 25x13x9, a little heavy but would hook up in the nasty stuff. I remember going on a night time Halloween mud run how that bike would get me through places that larger four wheelers were buried up in the swamp and go around them, of course I had to get off and help it some LOL!! Good times.
@mrcbuilds

Hey CJ7fun, the Dick Cepek tires work a lot like a paddle tire, I am not surprised they pulled great in thick mud, They certainly should be on the list of great mud tires. Thanks

The tire shown at 17:56 is what I used to have on my atc200S back in 2007. Those tires worked really well for me and even held up well on asphalt. Ive been looking for another set but i cant remember what they were called. I know they were made by carlisle but that's all I remember. I havent yet been able to find any for sale. I did see some other brand copied it though.

Nice grouping of tires to explain. Just a heads up- tires and batteries are getting more expensive with almost every order and both will have worse shortages going into next year. We had to order $8000 worth of tires to get a deal, and with YUSA batteries, 2 of their 3 production lines are shut down and they temporarily stopped producing some sizes. The other manufacturers are taking advantage so if you need something and can get it, don't hesitate. Thanks .

I don't even know what kind of tires are on my 250R right now. They're sorta just "there" so it rolls when it doesn't have the Sand Geckos on. Don't really like the Sand Geckos since we're at it. They're really tall and choppy. Definitely going back to something like the Sand Skate II or similar next time. Wasuch easier to turn with a paddle that was a "check mark" shape than one that's straight across.
@mrcbuilds
@mrcbuilds Год назад
Terrain is everything when it comes to tires. Personally i like a worn tire so it will slide on a 3 wheeler. Air pressure makes a big difference too. More pressure slide easier soft grip more and kinda whip in the corners on the exit

@@mrcbuilds when i got my 200s it had chin chen's (probably spelled that wrong) that were so stretched out they practically touched the fenders. Side wall says they're 22" tall. I replaced them with whatever tire Tractor Supply had in a 22" for an 8" rim. Ended up with something called "Hi Run." Much smaller in diameter, and while they say 2 ply, they're rock solid. At least they feel that way. Definitely weren't designed for a hard tail 3 wheeler. I might just put one of those Chin chens back on the front cause the Hi Runs aren't very round on the edges, kinda squared off, makes it steer funny, even for a 3 wheeler haha Oh, and my 250R has Dunlops, exactly like the one you showed on the aluminum rim. I think they were the stock wheels and tires from a TRX450 or something. I remember now they were on my 350X when I bought it. I never bought good knobbies for my 250R cause it's mostly rode in the dunes. Anything else, im taking a 4 stroke. Anyhoo, sorry for writing a book haha

@mrcbuilds
@mrcbuilds Год назад
As much as i dis like the turf busters. They are great work tires. Good traction and very thick ply. You can even run them flat. A knobby would be best for saving your grass if that is a concern. Ocelot and kenda make a good light weight turf tire in 4 ply. Good All round tires like carlisle or kenda in a 6ply would be best for farm use less puncture prone then lesser ply.

New fish here with a '84 200M. Replacing the chain, but I can't seem to get the slack out using the info in the manual. I hear you talk about changing the sprocket. Could the front sprocket be changed to the next size up to help with the slack? Instead of opening a can of worms by messing with the cam chain and internal gears? I would appreciate some help on this.😊
@mrcbuilds
@mrcbuilds Год назад
Hi, welcome, you may need to remove a link of chain. Count the links in the old chain, then the new. Yes you can buy larger and smaller sprockets to adjust the gear ratio, also changing tire tise will work also. That M came with 25in tires, if you dont need the ground clearance find some 20s or 22in tires you will like the pep they give to the machine.

@@rhondasibley7679 i dont know off the top of my head. You can google the factory sprocket size could be like 13/42 im just guessing here. But 2 teeth up or down is noticable. Bigger front will give you top speed less torque smaller front will give you more torque less too end.

I can’t have as much fun on those 1000cc bikes bc I don’t have the space to really open something up like that, we have 50ish acres and even on the atcs it feels kind of small. I’d need 100-200 acres to justify having a 1000cc. The tires on my 250sx say scorpion on the side and are pretty good just what came on it when I bought it

That's a good point, the space the larger bikes need is crazy. There getting as big a Suzuki samurai and jeeps, one of the nice things about smaller bikes is being about to get yourself unstuck, with needed a wrecker. lol Scorpions are a nice tire, the open lug pattern cleans itself out very well, the 250sx should have no problem breaking them loose. A lighter tire will be easier to spin, due to less rotational weight, this combined with the shorter tire lowers the gear ratio and that allows the engine to turn up easier and quicker, keeping the engine in the higher power range. The lower center of gravity will help you in the turns also.

can you run a 25/13/9 on the front of a 84 es

No sir. I have seen "12" inch tires rub. Some manufacturers list tires as rear or front. You will find rears tend to be wider than fronts

Wow, those are going to be heavy, I would suggest looking into a primary reduction gear. unfortunately its shaft driven and it is not as easy as swamping a sprocket

@@mrcbuilds yep well, we will se I guess, my buddy has a big red on 32s not as aggressive tread but it moves, my trike is going to get swamped every weekend I live in Florida so it’s all mud , I’m mounting them up this weekend so I’ll let you know my results

@@mrcbuilds I also stepped up to a 28 inch tires so hopefully that will help with the gear ratio a bit
@PisstNBrokeOffroad

@@mrcbuilds well, I got everything mounted up and took it for a short ride down the street and she doesn’t do too bad they do feel a little heavy on the bike but as far as bogging down the motor not much, it’s an 85 big red so it has the super low gear for first, I’m pretty sure, whistling diesel, put big ass truck tires on his three wheeler, and it moved and didn’t blow the diff up immediately.

Sounds like snow country. Burr. I will stay south of the Mason dixon line if I can help it. I would enjoy some time on a real farm. What's up with the 200s?
@LMM615
@LMM615 2 года назад
@@mrcbuilds I talked to you on FB. but I think it needs a top end rebuild. it smokes a little bit and all these people are saying that the 200s should be running 50 still and all I am at is 31 tops. I just want it so I can pittle around but I wanna take it around some of the back county roads this summer. Do you think a top end rebuild will restore enough power to get me to about 45mph or so? i also need to adjust the carb possibly.
@mrcbuilds
@mrcbuilds 2 года назад
@@LMM615 if its smoking than address that issue first, do a compression test. Does it need a topend or valves or both or a carb adjustment?. If the compression is less than 100psi and you want to run it flat out, than yes do a topend, and a valve job, and then do a mpg run. Depending on the weight of rider, I dout a new 200s would do more than 45mph. You may want to look for a 350x or 250r, if you really want speed.
@LMM615

@@mrcbuilds i am new to all this. I will be watching alot more of your videos and working on it slowly. I dont care about speed really just want it to run as good as i can get it to.
