THANK YOU!! It’s about time someone covered Louie Mueller’s bbq. I’ve always admired their bbq over anyone else. Father and son always took good care of my mother (she’s Japanese, 4’9” tall, couldn’t see over their tall countertop, which they found amusing but always treated her respectfully, which I appreciated greatly).

The best bbq I've had was Brett's backyard bbq which is in Rockdale, about an hour outside of Austin towards college station. Definitely worth the drive😍

Franklin's and La Barbecue are my favorites. My family owns a vacation home behind Franklins since the 90s and we were ecstatic when Franklin's opened up. Some of my favorite childhood memories was going to Austin to eat BBQ (especially Franklin's). Parking sucks because everyone parks in front of our house, but parking in Austin in general sucks now. La Barbecue when it was a food truck was phenomenal. Best beef ribs I've ever had. My family went back this past summer before the school year started and the brick and mortar store was underwhelming.

Ironically I am vegan/ eat fish when I go out to eat because the meats are not organic and I am allergic to hormones and antibiotics in meat that is not organic. They're in Austin, and here in Austin there are hundreds of vegan restaurants. Austin is a very diverse city... so your statement is very narrow minded, kind of like you just live in rural Texas.

I can respect your reasoning for Louie Mueller’s.. I’ll head over there 3-4 times a year just because I’m craving that beef bone.. I agree with your partner, though, Mickelwait’s is the best.. Franklin’s is 3rd for me, and I’ve never been to LeRoy’s.. And all 3 are world class, you can’t go wrong.. But Mickelwait’s is the total package.. Best variety of meats and amazing creative sides..

There prolly are... Austin is a hippie town. As much as it has OG Texas bbq, it's also a hotbed for Vegan/Vegetarian food. It's one of the fittest cities in America, and a number of the fitness freaks swear by their vegetarian or vegan diet.

For what ever it's worth....I just found out about "Pepper Palace," best Chipolte barbeque sauce I've EVER tasted!!!! And I love to barbeque & smoke meat! To me...this is a whole new rack if flavor they're dishin' out!!!

Hahaha I remember when I came to Austin I just googled for best barbecue and Franklin's came up....I went there shortly before they closed and was shocked that I had to wait about 20 minutes. The other people laughed at me and told me that usually it's way longer. And yes, the food was pretty good, but I kinda expected more because there is such a hype about the place.

Born here, don't go to Franklins. Its good but its more of a tourist trap then anything. The best BBQ place in Austin closed down awhile ago. Small shop called Ruby's, god I miss them.

@@pixeldoor4792 thx 4 the advice - I hope to be back in Austin soon, for me the city is probably the place I enjoyed most when I travelled the US. Lovely people, great music and food, and true freedom. Just hope all the people moving in don’t destroy it...
