I grew up dirt poor in Appalachia and on Christmas morning a local church brough me a real wrapped present. It was Peaches n Cream Barbie. I'd never seen anything so beautiful in all my life. My little heart stopped beating as I looked at her beautiful gown, her kind face, her gorgeous hair. Used to spend hours just lightly touching her beautiful gown. To this day I still gasp whenever I see one 🥰
@@hazeldavis3176 That is beautiful!! You know, Andy Warhol PAINTED that doll. And he didn’t do THAT many actual paintings. In the grand scheme of things, Pittsburgh isn’t THAT far from Appalachia… Did you get the reproduction when they came back around?? I didn’t and I still kick myself for not jumping on the “My favorite” and the other reproductions that came out in and around 2009. I had started collecting by 2019 but still hadn’t worked up a massive interest in having the 80s dolls. I do have some of the rewind dolls and they are cute!! It’s Bizarre to me that they didn’t do a mashup of some of the “gown” Barbies like peaches and cream.
@@Thedollswitness That and dupes!! Not always possible and maybe you have the dupe as a reproduction. That’s just as good IMO. I’ve been reckless with boxes but I’m not stupid OR made of money!!
The 80s was a rocking time for Barbie! I agree with pretty much all of your picks, there's another 80s Barbie I really like but I can't think of which one she is. She came with a black dress with a white jacket. The 80s were just so glamorous, perfect for Barbie!
I only had one Barbie when I was a kid and that was Barbie Rock Star (Europe edition) But the one I was so jealous some other girls had was Dream glow. So that was one of the first I got when I started collecting.
Ummmmmm .....Just my 3¢.... The video is totally Radical and Cool!!!!!..... BUT..... That "Filthy" Divine from Pink Flamingos Tshirt, Ummmmm.... Is the Bomb!!... Thanx for making the video and sharing it with all of us!!!?
I think some of the most beautiful '1980's Barbie's are Western Barbie from 1980, Crystal Barbie from 1983 and especially the best and most beautiful is Peaches & Cream Barbie from 1984. There are others but they're not as good as those 3 listed above.
Must say I prefer early 80s Barbie better…. They are more glamorous fashion dolls…. Late 80s turn a tad cartoonish with the fashions….. cue the “we all dressed like that in the 80s” responses…. I must live in an alternate reality …..
I feel super old when young folks like you refer to 80s stuff as “vintage”, because I remember buying it all when it was new on store shelves back in the day. Some of it I still have in great condition, but I’ve collected 80s stuff later as well. Here’s a list of some of my favorites from my 80s collection. I’m pretty sure I have multiples of all of these. 1980 Black Barbie 1980 Hispanic Barbie 1980 Parisian Barbie 1980 Beauty Secrets Christie 1980 Beauty Secrets Barbie 1981 Golden Dream Christie 1981 Golden Dream Barbie 1981 Scottish Barbie 1981 Oriental Barbie 1982 Pink & Pretty Christie 1982 Eskimo Barbie 1982 India Barbie 1983 Dream Date P.J. 1984 Sweet Roses P.J. 1984 Loving You Barbie 1984 Irish Barbie 1984 Fabulous Fur Barbie 1986 Tropical Miko 1986 Barbie and the Rockers, all five characters 1987 Barbie and the Rockers, Barbie, Ken and Derek 1987 California Dream Christie 1987 California Dream Midge 1987 Jewel Secrets Whitney 1988 Perfume Pretty Whitney 1989 Style Magic Whitney I also really love the structures and vehicles from this era. I have the 1979 Dream House, the entire Dream Furniture collection (and some European color variants, the 1980 Dream Pool, the 1977 Star Traveler Motorhome (which I fully restored with custom new labels that I scanned, digitally restored and reprinted), the 1983 Dream Cottage, the Corvettes, Ferraris and ’57 Chevy, the Rockers Hot Rockin’ Van, Dance Cafe, Hot Rockin’ Stage, instruments, etc. And last but not list, we can’t forget about the FASHIONS of the 80. So much great stuff to be had from this decade. I especially love the stuff from 1980-1984.
Very nice list! Beauty secrets christie is one of my favs too. And golden dream christie is my all time 80s favorite, but I’m saving her for a disco video. 🪩 And I hate to break it to you, but in a couple years stuff from 2000 will become vintage. lol but I get how you feel…even if I was just an adorable child in the 80s. lol ❤️❤️
@@Thedollswitnessyea when I was a kid that radio station B101 had the oldies of 50s music. Maybe 60s too.. now I think it's started doing 90s music as oldies
What an awesome video! I grew up in the 80s and I remember when these dolls were on retail in stores. "Barbie and the Rockers" are just amazing and they breath 80s style everywhere. Every girl in 85 wanted to look like Madonna, so does Barbie! And the 80s stand out for neon colors. But the most beautiful Barbie ever is "Peaches and Cream". I mean, she stands for herself. No Ken, no playset, no other fashion-set needed. She is immaculate and flawless. When you saw her in a shop, you had look at her! Absolutley mind-blowing. And there was "Dreamglow-Barbie" with "glow in the dark" fashions. "Tropical-Barbie" with extra long hair. "Loving You-Barbie" with her heart-shaped dress. And there was "Sun Gold Malibu.Barbie". Very sexy in a gold bathingsuit. Or "Angel Face-Barbie". Ahhh and "Crystal Barbie" in her white evening dress. And "Dream Date-Barbie". All of these were so unique and iconic. This was the peak of Barbie, I guess. Nothing compares to the 80s.
Yea I landed in the East Village NYC at 16 years of age Madonna & Keith Harring Debi Mazar all lived just a block or two away in the 80s we were all friends... Such an incredible time period I associate my earliest memories of collecting Barbie with friend Ricky Wilson from the B-52s he also collected vintage Barbie & lived in the east village and he went to Barbie Heaven way to soon. Most everyone collecting Barbie then was mainly interested in vintage , it was the beginning for me ! My appreciation for 80s Barbie started in the 90s ! This episode of The Doll Witness was a great reminder of how great the 80s dolls were ! Barbie is infinity ! Happy barbie collecting ! Matt Sky
I had Day to Night Barbie, and I still have Peaches and Cream Barbie from wayyyy 🤭 back in my childhood. My Dad bought her for Christmas, and she's still beautiful. I love your videos btw.
Lolololol!!!! I loved this video! Your a RIOT! I was cracking up! Loved your pick of 80s Barbie dolls. I agree with you 95%. Poor western Barbie! Girl looks jacked up and high or drunk! The 80s were exciting and so much fun and very glamorous! Your videos are my new favorites!❤❤❤
Id be remiss if I forgot to mention "Crystal" Barbie. She was absolutely stunning!! I do have to say though that "My First Barbie" in the yellow and blue mix and match outfit is probably my favorite Barbie of all time.....
Someone will inevitably scream "Barbie & The Rockers was just a Jem knockoff", which to that I say Jem was a Barbie knockoff which also stole ideas from multiple other sources(Hasbro isn't known for having original ideas, honestly), including a real band which didn't have the money to sue Hasbro in response(oh and on that note, Gerry & The Holograms was also a real band from the 70s so I guess that was stolen, too). The character designs are hideous, the cartoon was a dumpster fire(I would only guess Ghost Writer creator Marv Wolfman wrote for it because he needed the money) & it was a massive failure. Brian Goldner tried desperately to revive it in his last years as Hasbro CEO but every attempt failed miserably. It's so unworkable as a brand that Hasbro has subtly turned to partnerships with Crypton Media to slowly replace her with Hatsune Miku, of which they've made My Little Pony & Mr Potato Head crossover toys so far.
You totally missed an opportunity to dress like the Cowboy from the Village People during your Western Barbie monologue! I actually think "Diva" from Barbie and the Rockers was just Midge trying to be cool. One of my favorite Barbies from the 80's was "Parisian" Barbie. I loved the dress she came in and thought she had a really pretty face. I just cant get enough of you......
So Good ! 80s Barbie ! I really loved Barbie & The Rockers Those massive Earrings & Colors are Magic * Thank you for another awesome video ! Your Chanel is mine & many collectors Happy Place Cheers Matt Sky
Love it! Its like time travelin back to the Barbie aisle at Toys R Us with a comical tour guide. I can't handle the astro fashions, they're just so amazing... i love the space themed girl toys of the 80s
Golden Dream Barbie--that wire in her hair didn't hold up well. It got so tangled! But I loved the clothes. Also had the Dream Date Barbie in pink/purple. I'd say I remembered most of these, at least the ones from the 1st half of the 80s.
@Thedollswitness I wonder if any of the jem clothes looked better on Barbie & the rockers. You were not wrong those hasro dolls were rough to look at. Hasbro was never good at 1/6 scale
@@Thedollswitness I just bought a broken western ken. I rebodied him onto a made to move body. I'm recreating his outfit using faux suede and shimmer fabric to replace Qiana silk.
How could I forget 🍑 Peaches N' Cream Barbie..What do you think of Snap N' Play Barbie(1995), do you think she sold well? I liked Beach 🏖 Blast Barbie 1989 & Share a Smile Becky 1997-in the MAUVE wheel chair ♿ and, they should bring back baby Kelly(started in 1991) and, Tommy..& the Flip N' Dive Barbie. She had a Speedo bathing suite..& came with a diving board😊❤
Dream Glow Barbie is my number 1. When I grew up in the 80s I was mostly playing with G1 My little ponys. But my stepsister always got Barbies and Barbie accessories from her father. One day she came home with Dream Glow Barbie, I was so jealous. I wanted one myself, but I only got Sindys or Judiths from my family. And a lot of Barbie horses. As an adult I started to collect Barbies 1 year ago . Dream Glow was the first one I bought. I am so in love and I look at her and all childhood memories come back to me. Since then my 600 My little ponies are sharing shelfs with a lot of other 80s Barbies: Peaches n cream, Lovin you Barbie, Sea loving Barbie, Barbie and the rockers, Crystal Barbie, Angel face and Day to night. They all are favourites. And I swear they are multiplying!!, I am addicted and just got in to 90s dolls. So yes now I need a bigger house
Western Barbie 😂😂😂😂😂👍🥃🥃🥃🥴🤪 I am from Germany and I have both. I love my „pretty little“ girl, US Western Barbie. Barbie is not always perfect. 😌🥰 Thank you for your content. Love to watch!
LOL at the accent! I'm from Memphis, but my dad was from up north, and we watched a lot of PBS, so I managed to not sound southern until after I lived in Knoxville a few years. I was sitting here thinking, "wow, that's the first not-goshawful southern accent I've heard," so of course it wasn't southern lol. So glad you explained the reasoning behind Astronaut Barbie not looking like a real astronaut. It always bothered me that it was so pink and girly, but now, understanding it was because kids were scared, makes sense.
magic moves barbie is one of my favorite barbies ever because of how luxurious & magical the cxommercial is genuinely one of the best piece of advertisement ever . . . i really adored the astronaut barbie section finding out about the astro fashions might actually change my life forever & I'm writing it here as a memoir entry . . . also hehe I've had this project since i starting watching jem in the summer but i am so excited to customize each barbie & the rockers member into a jem & the holograms character since i realized there is a one to one with everyone & i can just use another barbie for kimber since she & jem are biological sisters turning dana into aja excites me so much because i love how much the sculpt already resembles her so much hehe
You have any Rockers fashion packs? I have some loose fashions, I think they're great. I also had All Stars Christie and Teresa as a kid and still do. They're in excellent shape. My husband got me the Barbie and Midge inbox for Christmas. Two of my favorite 80s barbies that I got from Santa as a kid are Dance magic and Garden Party ❤. Classic beauties !
I love the rockers as well! I have them and their fashions mib. The other group I love was the sensations !have them as well. We gotta give love to Whitney as well! Who doesn't love a Steffie \pj face mold??!!!
