One of my favourite books about books is „city of dreaming books“ by Walter Moers. It’s originally in German but has been translated into English and I would recommend it to any book lover. It is so atmospheric, marvellously written and just captures the beauty of books and writing so perfectly. It’s also beautifully illustrated. It is very hard to describe because in my opinion it is quite unique and it might not be for everyone. It’s a fantasy book about a whole city that lives and breathes books and it just makes you want to snuggle up in a chair, drink a cup of tea and loose yourself in the beautiful world Moers created.

The Girl Who Reads on The Metro doesn't get shouted about enough and I'm so glad to see it on this list!! I read and enjoyed Dear Fahrenheit 451, which is letters to books by a librarian ! I loved it!

I am currently reading Confessions of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell and am in love with it. He wrote an earlier book Diary of a Bookseller that I’m on the hunt for now. And he has another book coming at the end of the year. Books about books is one of my most loved subgenres and I’m adding several of the ones you’ve mentioned to my tbr wants. I’ve got dozens already, some favorite authors are Nicholas Basbanes, Helene Hanff, John Dunning, Michael Dirda, Anne Fadiman, oh I could bore you forever. Lovely video❤️

I'm a librarian and love books about books, and particularly books about libraries. I'd recommend 'The Little Wartime Library' by Kate Thompson, and 'Burning the Books' by Richard Ovenden.

Have you read Fahrenheit 451? Not sure if dystopian is your jam... but it’s a good read. I really am loving Balzac and the Little Seamstress. I need to know what’s in the chest!! It won’t take me long to find out.. I’m about 50 pages in.. so I assume I’ll find out soon. Great video... I’ll watch the rest once I complete Balzac

One of my all time favorite books, The Book Thief. The books play a huge role and have so much to do with Liesel's character development and interaction with other characters. Also, The Wednesday Wars. Not explicitly about books, but Holling is required to stay at school on Wednesday afternoons during a time when his classmates attend either church or temple (he is a different religion, and doesn't attend those classes, darn!) - so his teacher tasks him with reading Shakespeare. It bleeds into other parts of his life as a growing 7th grader, and it's just such a fantastic book. Also one of my favorites! Clearly this video was made just for me, and now my tbr has grown larger, thaaanks.

This is definitely one of my favourite genre of books! I will look into all of these, thank you. A wonderful non fiction book from this genre that I adored is Tolstoi and the purple chair, Nina Sankovitch. It is her recount of a year in which she read one book a day to find refuge from the grief of losing her sister. A soulful dive. Now that I remember it I want to reread it. Another, completely different tone, still non fiction, is Nick Hornby - The complete polysyllabic spree, and he has written more than one following this one. There are of course many more...but these immediately came to mind. thanks for your video! love from Italy

Interesting, you talk about a fascinating selection of books. I loved "Book Thief" and "Shadow of the Wind." "The Girl who reads on the Metro" sounds intriguing, I do a lot of my reading on the metro. "84 Charing Cross Road" by Helene Hanff is another fiction novel about books and reading. "Public Library and other stories" by Ali Smith is also worth a read. I like reading books about artists and paintings, I even have a "shelf" on Goodreads for "art-in-fiction" with a dozen books, the highlights of which include "The Painter" by Will Davenport, a novel imagining Rembrandt spending some time in England to avoid the debt collectors in Holland, "The Girl With the Pearl Earring" by Tracy Chevalier about Vermeer's muse and "Painter of Silence" by Georgina Harding.

The first book I thought of was The Library of the Unwritten. I love the idea of what if there were a place where books yet to be written are stored as well as books never to be written because the author is no longer...🤔 what if that place were between worlds like the Earthen, and Hell? Oh now I need book 2 like now...😮📚📚📚❤

I agree! It was while I was reading that book that I decided to pursue a new career path in librarianship. Two months later I was back at university studying for a MSc in Library Science, and now I'm a librarian ❤

You forgot the entire Thurday Next series! They are awesome. The first one is 'The Eyre Affair'. It is about a literary detective who solves literary crimes and she can actually jump in and out of books and meets some of the characters. She goes on a mission to save Jane Eyre from being kidnapped. It is hilarious. I read 3 out of the series so far.

Thanks for the video, excellent idea! I'd like to contribute a book I like which fits perfectly in this category, however it is a german one. The book's title is 'Das Haus der Geschichten' which means as much as 'The house of storys' of the Berlin author Thomas Franke.
