I love your top 10 videos so much. Your energy and passion when you are talking about books you love is like a balm to my soul. I don’t comment a lot but I watch all your videos and find them so calming. Hope everything is going well in you new home. I love the fireplace!
You have delivered THE BEST "Top Ten" of 2022 videos I have seen! Thank you for new read suggestions 🙂 Love your eloquent descriptions and enthusiasm!!
I love that Frankenstein made such an impact on you! Even though it’s a classic, I feel like it’s still, somehow, underrated. And that Mary Shelley was only nineteen when she wrote it!
Your top 10 last year was the first video I ever saw of yours and I've been subscribed ever since. Your top 10 videos are so much fun!! Okay I gotta say just two things - first is that I'm fascinated by the difference in reading taste since Certain Dark Things was a DNF for me but I'm so glad you loved it. Second is YESSSSSS Morning Star!!!! Girl at the end I was sweating, jumping around in my seat, hyperventilating, bawling 😂🤣. You recommended the trilogy in your last top 10 video which is why I picked it up, and oh my goodness I am so glad I did. It truly is one of the best trilogies and the best reading experiences I have ever ever read.
Yesss, Tori! I am right there with you! Recursion is Blake Crouch's best and I cannot fathom how he crafted such a story. It's too bad that I started there because none of his other books are as good to me... so far. And damn it you sold me on Frankenstein! It now has to be added to my 2023 TBR. 🙌🏾 Great top 10 list, Tori! I always love your enthusiasm for books!
I am simply overwhelmed, thank you for giving praise to Pierce Brown’s work. I stumbled across red rising and must’ve left one of the very first reviews on Amazon. I am in an absolute awe of his work and as good as the first trilogy ones, the next three completely blew my mind. 😳❤️ I don’t watch a lot of RU-vidrs but if I come across a one who shares my love for this author, I feel like my own child receives praise. Yes, I feel that strongly about these books.
I am so happy you loved Frankenstein! I had a similar experience of not having read it in high school or college. I picked it up on a whim when I was looking for a book to read during the Spooky Season lol. Once I read it, it immediately became an all time favorite book. ❤ I listened to it on Audible 2x afterwards because I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I did the same with Song of Achilles 😂
Thank you so much for doing these reviews. I have read and started so many series that you have recommended and so far I am never disappointed. You are my favorite Book-tuber. Keep up the great work, I love and appreciate you and your content.
I could listen to you talk about books for hours. The genuine joy!!!! I love it and it makes me want to read everything you recommend. These authors should hire you for reviews haha.
Oh I love your top 10 so much, excellent picks and video. Certain Dark Things is one of my favorite vampire novels, and I'm with you on loving that book. 🥰 I really enjoyed Seven Days in June too. A number of these I haven't picked up yet or haven't read in years, so I'm definitely going to move them up on my TBR. Thank you for sharing.
I was so pleasantly surprised by The City & The City! I don’t usually like crime and only read it because I’m reading through all the Hugo winners, and it was such a cool book! I think it could be a really good option for people who aren’t as into SF since the crime drives a lot of the plot.
Thank you so much for reminding me about the red rising series ❤ I am definitely ordering all 3 as I started reading the first book and really liked it but stop before finishing and now I need to read the whole series !
Well, i love how you express your feelings for these books! Make me want to read them all 😄. Sadly, i'm not a fan of Brandon Sanderson, his books are 3 stars for me. When I'm halfway through them i just want the stories to end already 🤣. I dont know... Moreno García and The justice of kings are definetly in my tbr for next year. I hope 2023 is even better in reads than '22 for both of us!
I'm late as heck here, but I love the passion in your words when you talk about books you love! I've just added several to my TBR, so thank you so much for the recommendations! 🤩
Woo for Silvia Moreno-Garcia! She has real skill when it comes to writing standalones. I think my favorites are Signal to Noise and Untamed Shore, but I love so many of them. And Frankenstein was way too melodramatic for me overall, but I loved all the chapters from the monster's perspective and how it really questioned the way society treated him. Glad you found so many great books this year!
I listened to Untamed Shore last week and I was so pleasantly surprised. I would definitely recommend it to people into morally grey atmospheric thrillers.
I’m so stoked to read Morning Star in early 2023. I was going to read it in December but I pushed it back to read Swan Song. I read Frankenstein in high school and it hit me like few other books ever have. Such a great book!
I love the way you describe books!! I’ve been hearing about City & the City for years, but I swear this is the first time it ever made any sense, and now I want to pick it up!
I’ve been away from booktube content for a while bc I am heavily into aesthetic planning now, however, I love to pop in for the “best ofs” I miss you! You have convinced me to read Frankenstein!! I own the book for at least 4 years now. This is the year!! So great to see your pretty face and your kind demeanor, Tori. Keep on Keepin’ On….your channel is def one of my go -tos. Happy New Year and have a great one!!
Such an amazing video. Listening to you talk about your favourite books is everything. I promised myself I would read Frankenstein this year, especially now watching your video. Thank you so much
Twelve Kings in on my TBR (and on my shelf) and your appreciation has just bumped it up higher on the list! Ooh, I was also curious about Certain Dark Things but no one I follow was talking about it! Wow, Recursion, too! I cannot wait to read it!✨💖📚
Thank-you so much for this list! It has given me lots of books to look forward to. I agree with you about everything regarding Frankenstein. What a novel! Writing (and reading) at its finest.
Just found you channel and I'm loving your videos. I agree with you that The Justice of Kings was incredible can't wait for book two. My TBR JUST GOT BIGGER by your recommendations. 😂
Great video! Really made me want to pick up The City And The City and Recursion. Some of my favorite reads of the year were Interior Chinatown, True Biz, Exciting Times, and There Is No Antimemetics Division
Thank you for this great list! The books presented all sound very amazing! Fortunately I almost read two of them Morning Star currently has an emotional grip on me... 8 remain for the tbr :D
I loved Recursion too. I devoured it in two sittings, and probably only because I was on vacation with family, and they made me put the book down to go to dinner, haha. Frankenstein is a favorite of mine too. So many tears reading that book!
I finally read Red Rising for the first time a couple months ago. I didn't LOVE it but i'm hooked enough to continue and I'm so excited to see how it ends. Also, totally agree about Recursion, i don't know how someone comes up with something like that lol. I want to read the new blake crouch soon!
YESSSSS The Final Empire and Morning Star!!! 2 of my favorite books of allllll time and authors! You're the reason why I bought Justice of Kings, can't wait to get to it!! and you made me hyped for Recursion (I read Dark Matter and LOVED it) and maybe its time for me to finally get to Frankenstein and see what the hype is all about 👀 Really good list and definitely got some new books I haven't heard about that I will make sure to check out!!
Ill pickup certain dark things, since it is a short fantasy and good. That's hard to come by, fantasy books are always thick. Thanks for the recommendation.
Have you ever read the gone world by tom sweterlisdch? its same vibes as recurssion from blake crouch, its my fave book. Also I've been obsessed with your videos, almost every single one of your recs is now on my tbr
Tori? WHY did I click on your video!?!? The goal was to REDUCE, not ADD on!! 😆 😆 I've already either purchased or reserved with the library, THE CITY AND THE CITY (this one sounds like me) and SEVEN DAYS IN JUNE. CERTAIN DARK THINGS and RECURSION are on my TBR. Ms. Garcia and I have a love-hate relationship, so I keep putting off. While I adore Mr. Crouch, just haven't been able to squeeze n, even though I did read his latest one. Tananarive Due is one on my top 5 favorite authors whose books are an automatic purchase. I've been a fan of Ms. Due since the beginning (showing my age). I'd love to hear your opinion on THE IMMORTAL SERIES. So glad that ppl are finally waking up to her. I will say that I don't understand the hype about Brandon Sanderson and haven't been a bit curious about reading a book by him .... no shade.
Loved watching your top 10. I am currently reading an ARC for "The Tyrany of Faith" by Richard Swan and I am so dissapointed, considering "The Justice of Kings" was on my top 10 books this year. For me the number one books were "Parable of Sower" and "Parable of Talents" by Octavia E. Butler.
Oh nooo. I’m sorry to hear that 😭 I really hope I have a different experience with Tyranny in February. Your top picks of the year are amazing! I still need to read Parable of the Talents
I love this list! The final empire is the first book I’ve ever reread. Will you make more videos as you move through the trilogy? I read Frankenstein for the first time this year too and it gives me so many questions for Mrs. Shelley. Like girl said so much about humanity and who gets to be human, and loneliness, and what we owe to each other. ❤ thank you for the video and I I’ve got so many books added to my tbr for 2023
Thank you, Jacqulin! I’ll defintely be making more Mistborn videos. The next will be some time in Jan. when I finish book 2 😃 Shelley ruined me with Frankenstein and I’d like to ask her a couple questions myself 🤣
I enjoyed your video so much! I remember seeing you post about reading Frankenstein in your Insta stories and was so curious about what your reaction would be. And it did not disappoint! Your enthusiasm towards it makes me want to reread it all over again. I was also happy to see Certain Dark Things make the list. I reread that this year on audiobook and the narrator did an amazing job, especially how she voiced Domingo.
Frankenstein is such a masterpiece 😩 I can’t wait to experience it again! And I will have to check out the audiobook for Certain Dark Things! Thank you for watching! ❤️❤️
I’m glad your number one choice is what I thought also is an amazing ending to the trilogy. I’m reading the 2nd trilogy of the series to prepare for lightbringer and I still wish I can read it for the first time. Good video
@@ToriMorrow you know it’s not bad but it does seem to take some to take some direction. I am invested in the red rising universe and I want to see how it all pans out. 😬. Also great idea on the book Oscar. Thought that was a clever fresh way to view books and their characters! Great work!
Not even joking, as this video was playing in the background I was browsing my local e-library and put Seven Days in June on my audiobook tbr. Since you mentioned it first off I decided to download it to start after this video.
Just listening to you talk about Frankenstein made me misty eyed. That is a book I will never read because I couldn't handle it. It would make me angry and sad.
I've heard that Tyranny of Faith is even better than The Justice of Kings, or at least just as good. Very promising! Can't wait til February. My favorite this year is Jade Legacy, but I also really enjoyed Morning Star. Gave it 5 stars I think.
That’s all I needed to hear about Tyranny of Faith!! I seriously cannot wait for Feb. And Jade Legacy is incredible! It was my top of the year in ‘21 😄
I haven't really made my top 10 yet, so I'll share my favourite short story instead: The Cheesemaker and the Undying King by Lina Rather (in Lightspeed 144). Give it a go if you want something short before the end of the year!
Haha I'll have to disagree with you on Justice of Kings. I really wanted to love it so but it was sadly one of my least favorite reads this year (mostly because I didn't like Helena). But I'm very excited to get to Twelve Kings in Sharakhai! Hopefully next year.
It's sometimes marketed as YA, but was originally written as an adult novel. It's definitely age appropriate for YA audiences, but I think has adult fantasy sensibilities when it comes to world building.
