I wanna clear up something since it seems many think me praising Erlang = me saying Black Myth Wukong, the game itself, is the best boss ever. This is an 8/10 game for me, not an absolute masterpiece of the ages, and it's overall boss roster has a lot of weak points. I'm not here meatriding the game itself, but the boss. I ask we focus on that. This isn't a BMW vs Elden Ring video. Also some bosses I know people often consider among the best, but I haven't played the games they're in: Vergil, Fatalis, Alatreon and some FF16 bosses. I'm sure they're great, but I haven't experienced them so I can't speak about them.
Vergil is great but my favorite boss from the DMC series is actually a boss from DMC 4 named Credo Angelo (not a big spoiler really), it's so fucking good.
If I may ask, what about Wukong’s boss roster did you find weak? I’m over halfway through the game and so far I have only encountered a handful of bosses that I would consider bad. Most are A or B tier imo. Also, unrelated, but you should DEFINITELY play Monster Hunter World. The AI of Fatalis interacts with the player nearly as well as Erlang does. He specifically goes for his most high damaging moves on low health players so you have less of a chance at surviving them. He can also alter his attack strings mid way through to punish players healing/sharpening their weapon even if they are on the other side of the arena and are well beyond his direct aggro range.
@@jakobhay8895 I know but a lot of the bosses he ranked as the worst in the game within that ranking are optional and easily skippable. The vast majority of the mandatory bosses are extremely well done imo. He still considers Elden Ring to have great boss quality despite the sheer amount of shitty optional gank/reskinned bosses in that game. I fail to see why he can’t apply the same rationale to Wukong.
@@jameslough6329 I like wukong boss roster overall, but I do see it as being greater than the sum of its parts. The thing thats different about Elden Ring is that it has more highlights. There's about 10 or so amazing tier fights for me in ER, and 3 in Wukong. However, ER does have a lot more terrible bosses too.
Erlang is amazing but one problem I feel permeates through Black Myth Wukong(which is still a great game with a couple high S tier bosses) is how dodging feels a little imprecise. I beat Sage 2nd try and Erlang in like 10 tries because when they were doing their crazy combos I could just spam dodge and come out with little damage taken. Messmer is my favorite boss ever because while his moveset is less complex every attack feels meaningful which I value a lot in a boss. Most Hollow Knight bosses have a small amount of attacks but the best bosses in the game have very specific uses for each(Pure Vessel is my 2nd favorite boss for this reason). Messmer achieves that tricky balance of having every move feeling important to his moveset while still having it be complex and varied. Good video, love you.

I would also like to shout out a boss that due to her nature is bound to go unnoticed, mystic Ze'mer. The last fight of the incredible hollow knight mod "the pale court" witch imo out shines every vanilla boss in the game. She's super hard but the flow of combat feels excellent. She's the only fight that somewhat encourages the parry mechanic with her huge sword you can't always dodge or i frame. The mod is free and super underrated so i hope to bring some attention to it. I think the bosses truly stand on equal footing with hollow knight base so i would highly recommend it to any hollow knight fan.
YES! 100% this She is my favorite 2D boss on gameplay alone. It's insane to get a mod of such high quality. And the other bosses are nothing to scoff at, definitely worth experiencing.
I have to say, lately the fight that I have really appreciated in a Souls game that not many people pay attention to was, maybe a little surprisingly, the gank fight against Leda and her allies. I love that there is a proper build-up, that all the characters have their motivations, backstory, actual relationship to one another and towards the main game characters, the way in which the approach towards the quest influences the line-ups and that you expect the fight somewhere along your path because most questlines are still yet to be finished when you arrive to Enir Ilim. Definitely my top 3 bossfights in SOTE and my favourite NPC fight ever!!
I think plenty of people pay attention to that? It's just that the fight itself sucks really bad, so people don't love the fight regardless. I also just disagree on the emotional impact. I really just groan whenever fromsoft makes me kill NPCs at the end of their questlines at this point, it utterly fails to bring out any emotion in my anymore.
It's impressive how despite Erlang having a massive moveset they were still able to fit so many small details into the fight and same can be said for Great Sage's Broken Shell I think Vergil from DMC3 is still a strong contender for best boss of all time
The best bosses are which can fulfill their promise of a climax via narrative, presentation and gameplay concepts which challenge and test you in your skills. Very few bosses can achieve that. The fight has to feel meaningful in every way, from a narrative perspective and a gameplay perspective. There are so many bosses which have great art design, great gameplay etc but they feel just like random guys or monsters within the world or story in order to give you a good bossfights or there are bossfights were the narrative, presentation and the built up is great but the boss fights feel cheap from a gameplay perspective, because they tend to feel too videogamey and forced.( many Metal gear solid boss fights feel like them and I say that as a MGS fan ). One of the best boss fights in history is Radhan ( main game ) from Elden Ring. His narrative built up is very cool, the suspension till you reach the boss is very cool, the fight is fun from a challenge perspective, the presentation and epicness are matching to his legacy and his fight killing him feels meaningful and impactful in every way. As a player it feels meaningful from the challenge aspect and for the world is a meaningful fight too and his death has major consequences to the world as well. I think this should be the blueprint for a perfect bossfight.
@davidporta7581 Although I like consort radhan and think that the fight is epic on a visual and soundtrack level I prefere the original one. It just was a perfect climax for the game, and his second appearance just lacks the weight of his first, also because he as a character was already well known at the point. Summening an army against one of the mightiest gods in elden ring lore and being able to use torrent etc + the first time of his meteor attack + his death leading to major consequences for the plot and world is what makes him a perfect boss fight.
My favourite boss ever actually is a modded boss from Hollow Knight called Mystic Ze’mer. She doesn’t have that many mixups she can do, but she’s very aggressive and makes you move around constantly, and the moves she does have are amazing
ze’mer is such a cool fight, very demanding everything flows so well and my only gripe is the screenwide wave sometimes leading to near-unavoidable hits my favourite of the mod is hegemol tho. simpler than ze’mer but it’s such a cool upgrade to False knight and it feels like he’s actually got control and skill, unlike the maggot

The only games I've ever played with bosses were souls games (& Ghost of Tsushima but they don't really count). So for me, the best boss is Messmer and then Godfrey, Radagon, Maliketh phase 2, Morgott and then every other great souls boss. I think Artorias might be better than Morgott now that I think about it but not sure.

i think erlangs lore is amazing, if you didn't realize it goes deeper than it actually seems, in jttw he does that same kind of kaiju battle with wukong, and after the fight when wukong eventually gets sealed away under the mountain, erlang just destroys his home mountain, the two had some generational beef (the mountain was fixed by wukong in jttw). however the actual backstory of erlang is quite relatable with wukong, the heavens fully just killed his whole family and then somehow he became a celestial guard, i forgot if he chose to or they made him, but he greatly resents the heavens, which is a big part of wukongs character, that's what the circlet on his head is, a literal representation of the heavens control over him, because bmw takes place after jttw, this is the stuff they made now. wukong and erlang seemingly stopped hating each other, and erlang decided to help wukong with his plan, in the final fight where erlang 'kills' wukong, wukong says while talking about the circlet "watch me rip it off and break free". no matter what wukong has tried in the past he has never been able to remove that thing, and here is where the events of the game come in, after erlang 'kills' him, he takes his memories and mind and stores them into his third eye, waiting for the end of wukongs plan, that plan being that one day another monkey will come along and gather all of wukongs relics, and then regain his memories, making a new, reborn monkey king that is free from the grasp of the heavens. that's why the bad ending is a BAD ending, it ends out with wukong seemingly not having his memories and therefore being reborn AND being more controlled by the heavens sealed into the stone, the old monkey in there seems to be very heavily against you and working for the heavens by the way, and that is why you fight erlang, as one final test to prove you are worthy of the title as monkey king, as they wouldn't want wukong to be put into a weak vessel, after all he is no longer immortal, so he needs to be able to fight back. in the good ending you open your eyes before the circlet is put onto you, and then get the flashback cutscene of all of wukongs memories, showing that his plan has succeeded.
I've been playing DMC3 recently. Beat the game last week and am currently going through it again on hard mode and honestly, the final boss of that game is genuinely one of the great achievements of game design I've ever seen. The boss has like 6 or so moves and is actually rather simple, but every single one demands perfect play and a single mistake can turn the tide of the fight. I've only beaten it on normal but am itching to face it on other difficulties. Need to get to DMC5 eventually since I hear that game's final boss is up there as well. My favorite boss of all time is Armored Core Last Raven's final boss though, even more than Allmind, Gael, and Inner Father for me, which is crazy because that boss lasts about a minute long and you're basically pressing the same 3 buttons for the whole fight, but damn if it isn't the singular most tense, stress-inducing minute you'll ever have in a Fromsoft game.
My personal favorite boss of all time is actually a different boss from wukong. Its golden Long. I know he’s «bullshit», but there’s something i adore about the fact that i can know exactly what moves he has, which move he’s doing and what comes next, yet still get hit by all of it and die because i misstimed one of my dodges oh so slightly. I love that. The fact he demands so much of the player is why i enjoy him so much, although objectively, Erlang is absolutely better. Golden long boss theme is also such a banger
I do agree partly, but I think this is just one of many ways you can use to design a great boss. There are multiple approaches, some more simplistic but not in a bad way (like the gimmick fights in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls). Anyway, these are my personal favorite boss fights in games I've played (that is, not Armored Core 6): - final boss from Metal Gear Rising - Minamoto no Yoshitsune from Nioh 2 - final boss from Nioh 2 - Lu Bu from Wo Long - Lady Maria from Bloodborne - Slave Knight Gael from Dark Souls 3 - Monsoon from Metal Gear Rising again - final Jeanne fight from Bayonetta
@@pressy-fb1hs yeah Armstrong is the best, I love Monsoon a lot though because it's sort of the git gud boss of the game, it forces you to master your parrying (unless you're playing on easier modes). And also you can approach some parts in different ways, like choosing to use EMP grenades or not. Great music as well but it's MGR so it goes without saying. Sam is also an amazing boss, definitely.
I did add a little text in the intro to specify I'm talking about combat focused 3D bosses, so that excludes puzzle bosses. Though, even then I don't think there's any DeS or DS1 puzzle boss that would come to mind as far as best bosses go, combat or otherwise.
With black myth getting a dlc i sincerely hope they manage to top erlang for best boss. My bet's on Ne Zha (the fire wheel boy), he looks awesome and i trust the devs can cook up a banger fight with the concept.
@@Pofr557 i think you can cut down a lot of erlangs big attacks that take 30 seconds each and give them normal poise instead a block meter. Ne Zha is primarily a fire user so he could have lingering effects like flame bursts at the end of his sword swings and flame walls that he could place down by skating across the arena. His dad could also help with his binding spell you see in the end cutscene of chapter 5. If you want spectacle, he's already pretty cool and the fight could take place during the eclipse also like the ch5 animation. Like erlang it could be a kaiju fight in phase 2, but id rather it be a proper phase with no checkpoint and you control somewhat like normal wukong in big mode.
I agree that the Erlang fight is one of, if not the most complex fight I've ever tried without considering mods like Unalloyed Malenia! There are so many different combos with variants depending on our positioning but his body language is so good that with practice we can identify which stance starts which combo! When you talk about combat system/mechanics, you forget maybe the most important, useful and coolest: see through! You can use Resolute Counterflow/Strike skill when in smash stance or Tactical Retreat/Forceful Thrust skills when in thrust stance to activate invincibility (i-frames), and counterattack with good damage and sometimes interrupt enemy combo! Btw, there is one annoying thing in this fight that should have been done better, if he does an attack that uses the dogs and starts phase transition staggering us, we will get hit by the dogs because we can't move! It was such a great video, really enjoyed your detailed explanation, Erlang fight is awesome! Just a funny note: you should really like Hollow Knight, you put twice in the description and the unreleased Silksong right at the start of the video haha
I suppose it depends on your own personal preferences. Not every wants an overly complex boss with a million different attacks. Sometimes they just want a fight that is both simple and enjoyable, like the Abyss Watchers. Or they want something that puts they're backs to the wall, Orphan of Kos. Or maybe they prefer spectacle above all. The bosses from Shadow of the Colossus aren't very complex but the spectacle of destroying a Kaiju with your tiny sword never gets old. One aspect you didn't mention was story relevance. My personal favorite aspect. Bosses like Akira Nishikiyama from Yakuza Kawami might be a bit of a mechanical mess, but I love it because of the story behind the fight. As he's gone from your a sympathetic character to a stone cold tyrant who wants to prove he's better than you. I guess I've a weakness for the typical anime rival character. Honestly if you asked me what my favorite boss ever is, I'd likely take weeks to make a decision and that answer may change in minutes cause there are just so many choices for me.
I did talk about that at the start, that for most just the presentation, being cool and memorable, is what matters. But that's not an interesting topic to talk about, so I wanted to discuss what makes a mechanically well designed boss fight

Well if you saw the ending, I ended up coming to the conclusion that Allmind is my favorite boss, even though I think Erlang is simply better. And that is for very personal reasons- story, thematic purpose, visuals, and just the feel of it. I think there definitely is more going for Erlang than the vast majority of bosses, though the criterias I made are just what I think is good.

I don't have much of an argument for why Allmind is top tier besides what I mentioned, whereas Erlang opens up a bigger discussion about the different criteria for best designed bosses. I've made a lot of boss rankings and so I've gotten a pretty clear idea of what are the shared qualities of the best bosses, and why, and I wanted to put that into a video form. And some games that lack those qualities, it's easier to see why they didn't work for me now. So now both my viewers and myself have something of a golden standard to use when discussing this type of bosses, design-wise. Feel-wise, there are no rules so again, not a very compelling thing to make an analysis on.
Yozora, fatalis mhwi version are up there, mesmer, ludwig, ishin, allmind, cel ibis, both radhans, gael, bayle,...other bosses that are still amazing but not goat tier are some other mh monsters, sheer epicness for bahamut ff16, sephirots multi phase boss from rebirth, armstrong, vergil, other peak soulslike bosses like lu bu, final boss of nioh 2 etc ...l...didnt yet play wukong
Thats why challenging boss fights are a MUST because the memories you'll have after fighting them will last you a lifetime due to how impactful they are and it's always beautiful also every single boss here is just the complete package in terms of everything
There are many god tier bosses that I wish I could completely forget about so I could relearn how to fight them and get that same rush I did the first time around. That's why I hold Senator Armstrong in such high regard. He absolutely slays in presentation. There's a reason pretty much every line of dialogue he has is forever in the annals of meme content after all. He's not particularly complex, but all of his moves feel fun to dodge. He even has a mechanic that makes being grabbed fun. Being grabbed basically gives you two options depending on what animation he decides to do, and whether you nail the button prompt in time will determine if you get hit, or if you hit him. And the music is absolutely one of the best in any video game I've ever played. Just for his ost alone, I wish he had even more health. Most of the bosses in metal gear rising are great, but Armstrong is just built different.
He might not have combo variations or stuff like that but he has lots of different attacks with similar start ups that force you to pay attention, I'd say that's a form of complexity as well.
On what you said about a combo branch requiring you to either delay roll or roll preemptively at 10:05, I've heard Soul of Cinder has one of thise in his greatsword moveset in phasen 1. At least, I've heard a lot of challenge runners complain about thatbpart of him.
I remember that, and I felt the same way for a long time, though for some reason the last few times I did it I was able to avoid both just fine. It is really deceptive though, and could be used as an example of that.
From my perspective, there are three core elements that are important to boss design: gameplay, presentation, and story. Ideally, these 3 should work together in making the boss greater than the sum of its parts. For example, it's more fun for me to dodge and deal with Radahn's and Owl's attacks due to their size giving their attacks more weight without loss in speed and generally being more visually impressive, than it is Malenia and Genichiro. That said, while gameplay is king generally, I might put different amounts of value to each of them based on the game, and depending on the context, I might prize things differently for some of the bosses within the games themselves. For example, in the Norse God of War games, all three principles are almost equally balanced in their importance with the main story bosses, even if gameplay has a small but notable lead. However, the gameplay has a MUCH greater emphasis in the optional super-bosses Gna and King Hrolf. Taking all that into account, these are my Top 10 bosses: 10. Vergil (DMC5) 9. Avion/5th Colossus 8. Odin (GoW Ragnarok) 7. Ludwig, the Holy Blade 6. Ayre 5. Slave Knight Gael 4. Inner Father 3. Alatreon 2. Senator Armstrong 1. Starscourge/Consort Radahn Honorable mentions are Otakemaru, King Darius, Airbuster (FF7R), Jeanne (Bayonetta), and Lu Bu (Wo Long). P.S. Just play DMC already, they're all available on modern platforms. You can safely ignore 2, though. And DON't come back for a boss ranking until you've genuinely gotten gud enough to absolutely STYLE on the bosses; only then will your opinion be truly valid.
I haven’t gotten to Erlang yet but videos like this are REALLY making me look forward to fighting him. I used to think that Isshin the Sword Saint had the biggest variety of combo variations and mix ups of any boss in gaming. However, this boss looks like it may have even him beat I still think Sword Saint Isshin will remain my personal favourite boss for quite a while tho. I believe he just has everything you could possibly ask for in a great boss. He’s got immense story build up, fantastic pacing, a breathtaking soundtrack, and a moveset that is addictingly rewarding to master. I have never felt as badass in a game as I do when I manage to perfectly deflect Isshin’s seven hit block string or redirect his cinematic lightning attacks in the third phase
you should absolutely make a video on any of the new monster hunter games, they are all just boss battles, and i think many of them are very, very good (also a suggestion in case you really make a video on monster hunter, you could put the gear obtainable from any monster in the ranking someway, either as a bonus thing or as a factor in the final position of a monster)

My thing with all of these bosses is while I like the boss a ton I feel the games mechanics can be underwhelming in most souls likes my personal favorites and imo the best are Vergil, Nergigante, and Senator Armstrong because of how they adapt through the boss while still making use of the games imo much more fun mechanics but I understand you have never played them so they cant really be in the conversation
For Erlang and Wukong vs SOTE/Elden Ring bosses I personally feel SOTE/Elden Ring has harder and more epic bosses and most bosses in Black Myth Wukong are 1 try. Black Myth Wukong is a good starter/beginner game for people who are new in Souls Genre. All of my friends that are first time in soulslike genre went on to play NG+4 for Black Myth Wukong and now I am getting them to try Elden Ring. All of my friends that played SOTE/Elden Ring first including me stopped Black Myth Wukong immediately at NG+0 after we got the good ending of Black Myth Wukong. I am very glad this game provides the world a starting point to try a soulslike genre.
For me my favourite boss is tied between gael,messmer and inner father,laxasia and lady maria are close tho, there are some bosses tho that might take this place for me that i haven't fought like allmind,nameless puppet(yes i picked the good boy ending on my first playtghou fight me)and of course erlang
If I had to pick my five favorite bosses they’d be. 1. Io (Ys 8) 2. Soul of Cinder (dark souls 3) 3. Allmind (AC6) 4. Armstrong (Metal gear rising) 5. Lavos (Chrono Trigger) While I objectively know gameplay is king presentation is at least to some extent more important because that’s what makes the bosses memorable. You could have a random stick man in a void with the most complex moveset in the word and… well it’d probably be memorable for how weird it is but ultimately it’d more than likely be forgotten after its buzz died down meanwhile the fights with cool visuals, heavy story, and amazing music. It’s not limited to just action games either because Lavos is from a turn based RPG made for the Super Nintendo but he’s still one of the best bosses ever made because he puts your skills to the test requiring you to use your full arsenal to bring down a monster capable of ending the world and is such a large threat you can ignore the plot to go fight him around the 4 hour mark of the game if you so wish. His attacks look really cool and his final phase even has some serious spectacle as you’re being dragged through time and his attacks change depending on the time period you’re in giving him a dynamic moveset (pray you don’t stay in ancient times for too long because smacking you with a big rock is unironically his most dangerous attack) and while it’s a turn based rpg you could even argue positioning plays a part due to Chrono trigger having AOE and location based attacks you can use for big damage
Great video! The brilliant design of erlang's fight makes him an amazing boss and tells his tragic stoy. His elegant fighting style indicate his noble lineage, cuz his mother is jade emperor's sister. And his axe, those who know erlang's lore know at first sight of the axe that he's not a villain in the game, because he once used the axe to fight against all gods of celestial court alone for his mother but she died in front of him anyway. Also everything erlang said in this fight shows he is the most sincere friend during wukong's road to seek freedom. Wukong's relic makes those who hold it suffer. You know this from the journal of bull king. The bull was too sick to eat because of relic. And erlang hold the mind relic for 500 yrs, even the baby buddha was worry about erlang. Also you will hear erlang say "bearing his mind is an ordeal, trust me, i know it more than you do" when you are defeated. While we as players thought he was taking it easy throughout this ass kicking fight, he was actually suffering. Yeah, the erlang we're dealing with in this fight is likely not at his best, like the great sage's broken shell… dude just so ridiculously strong😂
Another detail I love is how his spear bends when he swings it fast, which I at first thought was odd... but apparently in the story his spear weighs like 13 tons, so that makes sense. Why did they go so hard for this one boss I will never understand, but its impressive as hell
My favorite boss of all time is… Lexasia from Lise of P! I know this will make so many people mad, but idc. She’s the perfect boss in every single way. (Honorable mention to the Nameless Puppet, black rabbit brotherhood, Romeo, Messmer, Bayle, Sans, Undyne the undying, Asriel Dreemurr, and Last Breath Sans. All of those are also amazing top 10 worthy fights.)

The individual fights are mostly just mediocre (as in the little guys are really mediocre and the big one is just decent or good) but the swaps between them feel really well timed and make the fight far more engaging than they would've been alone. Or simply put, they're more than the sum of their parts. Top 10 is still pretty generous though.
My favourite bosses ever are Kazuya Mishima in Tekken 8 and Vergil in DMC V. Every aspect that you have named is perfect, but also legacy behind them and sheer build up to them. For Vergil we had to wait 14 years since DMC 3, for Kazuya situation is different, because he was already final boss in Tekken 7, but we fought as Heihachi and afair only against his devil form. Meanwhile in Tekken 8 it is first time since Tekken 4 which was released in 2001 and this time no devil powers, just straight up fist fight which ended up in breaking the cycle of patricide. Tekken lore is kinda shitty, but final fight was so poetic. The only one who has comparable buildup in Soulsborne is Soul of Cinder, as it is a reincarnation of Gwyn, but this time, we finally put an end to this cumulative tale as Miyazaki said. But how? That's up to ashen one. He is not in my favourite in soulsborne(top 3, but still), yet his buildup is excellent, not gonna lie
Also, Magicat I love your videos and you're opinion is valid but man do I disagree with you about Lies of P bosses. Not that your description is inaccurate, it really isn't but they're just fun imo despite then largely simple movesets. The fun n comes more from the player end in LoP and what you can do with weapon arts arms ECT though so maybe we agree more than I think... 🤷♂️
Sure, enjoyment can't be disputed. That's where the favorites discussion comes in. I can acknowledge AC6 doesn't have the best bosses, but I enjoy them the most. I do wanna say, though, Romeo is really damn good.
Personally my favorite boss of all time mechanically is consort Radahn, it’s just so much fun and you feel like a badass but my favorite boss of all time actually (including more spectacle over gameplay) is Jack Krauser from re4 remake. It makes you feel so cool, it plays out like a John wick fight scene but you’re John wick
I respect the list but it's hard to not include Devil May Cry Vergil bosses, especially the final fight in Devil May Cry 3 which is in my opinion the best boss fight of all time, it has everything: Engaging difficult challenge, Stunning arena, such a beautiful soundtrack, even these nostalgic Vergil's Distorted Voice lines make this fight so much more engaging, story-wise it's amazing and everyone probably guessed what awaits at the end. This fight was destined to be amazing and all of that in a game from 2005. Devil May Cry 5 did the same thing and even If I think that DMC 5 is superior game and one of the best I've played, something about DMC 3 final fight is special and even if technicaly DMC 5 fights feel more "fair", I think the Vergil 3 boss in DMC 3 is still timeless masterpiece.

For me, personally, a great boss isn't only about mechanics, but also about inspiration. If the boss character stuck in my head and inspires me create (draw, write, make silly headcanons, etc.) despite me finishing the game months/years ago - that's what a great boss to me, personally! And yeah I LOVE everything about Messmer ❤🔥 The first boss since Artorias that stick with me the way I described above.
What annoys me about Messmer is that his hp is too low. He's the only ER boss that actually deserved a full2nd phase hp bar. I hate that his hp goes down so quickly. It goes down quicker than Malenia and he has more than her as well.
I am so glad that I am dogshit at these games to the point where it takes me multiple hours or days on these bosses as it really makes me feel like I've gotten the most out of every boss. Messmer took me two days to beat and I had an absolute blast
Erlang the sacred divinity is my favorite and in my opinion the best boss of all time. I wholeheartedly believe he alone is a better boss than any fromsoftware boss, god of war boss, and all others I’ve faced.
I personally disliked most of the bosses in Black Myth Wukong, but holy shit Erlang and Great Sage’s Shell blew me away. I actually found both to be relatively easy fights, as in I beat them in only a few attempts, but man they were so much fun. For me though, my top 3 bosses have got to be Isshin, Gael, and Allmind. They’re perfection in my eyes and are just so addicting and fun.
Am I missing something or are all the bosses in Wukong tanky af. Like midir's health bar has nothing on some random side boss like the yellow long, not even close. That aspect of the game alone kills some of the enjoyment for me, despite of the admittedly decent mechanics.
@@magicat7356 I mean "all" was an exaggeration, but you have yellow loong, stone monkey, zhu bajie, both phases of the final boss, golden eyed beast, and erlang himself that took what felt like eons to deal with. Perhaps I neglected some aspects of the game though, but my damage was not sufficient.

I guess I’m in the minority but I thought erlang was a poorly designed boss and enjoyed the final boss a ton more. That being said wukong had great boss design and I loved a lot of them but erlang to me just had weird combo strings once he pulls out all of his weapons.
Although I agree with you on the great sage boss fight being great, Erlang Shen is the most frustrating, terrible design boss fight ever. He has I think 72 move sets, a spear on one hand, a sword on the other, with a laser eye, swords flying to you from the sky, and an axe coming out of his butt. It’s just a hard boss fight with no joy. At no point I died and said wow that was cool. Unlike great sage boss fight specially when he stole my gourd. Bayle is another good example of a boss fight.
Yozora from kingdom hearts 3 doesn’t fare well in the mixup department (he has the grand total of…One mixup!) However, the fight is still one of the best bosses for me because…well its just the most fun boss to learn I ever fought lol. Its the best memorization based fight out there, every attack could be considered a desperation move in any other game, yet all of them have their own punishes and ways to figure out, and all of them are extremely hard, yet rewarding and fun. He might not have as much replay value as like, erlang or vergil or messmer or any of the other goats, but the learning process alone is some of the most fun I’ve had in a video game, and I can’t believe it came from fucking kingdom hearts 3. Oh yeah and his DM is the best attack in any video game boss, just saying.

You said in your last video that great sages broken shell is better than 99 % of from bosses. Can you name the 1 % that are better?. Id argue mesmerr is better than him. Erlang is the best tho
Allmind is hard to compare for how different the combat is. I guess Great Sage is a better Wukong boss than Allmind is for what they can still do with Armored Core 6's combat. But obviously, Allmind is my favorite, just not necessarily the best
imagine being so happy that he uploaded a video and you see a spoiler alert but you played all these games except wukong and from the comments it seems that he talks about a boss in it extensively i will have to wait for the other videos
Lol wukong bosses are way too easy to be compared with elden ring bosses. Different type of game. Wukong is a poorly optimized mess anyways. The meatriding is over the top.
Is Erlang really a pushover? I struggled more with him than I did any SotE boss. I can agree Wukong overall doesn't have better bosses than Elden Ring. Erlang though? Absolutely.
@@magicat7356I wish I struggled a lot more on it tbh. It's the one thing that prevents him from being among my overall favorites. Maybe spellbinder is incredibly OP for him, but I only lost once and got slightly disappointed (in comparison, scorpion Lord killed me more than any boss in the game, 9-10 times at least, and is one of my favorites due to that)
@@joaoluizkfsantos8392 really? Scorpion lord took me 3 tries. I used spell binder on him and erlang. Erlang took me 43 tries. Maybe it's cause I immediately went to him after chapter 5. Spell binder defo makes it harder tho
