😂 Yes I appreciate it. I also love engineering, and a member of my family WAAAAY high up in NASA ( everyone loves that acronym, now it's D.A.R.P.A. this and that 😂 I grew up with it 🙄🙄🙄🙄 )- SO : IT'S REFRESHING TO FINALLY FIND AN INTELLIGENT INDIVIDUAL THAT ALSO INTELLIGENTLY NARRATES THE "channel"- such that it's WORTH MY FRIGGIN TIME TO WATCH AND TO COMMENT ! AAAARRRGH !!! 😂 - - I wonder, since you seen to be experienced with the "PLASMA RIFLE 40 WATT RANGE LAZAH SIGHTING !" 🤖 - "Hey, you can't do that ! " - " WRONG !... " 💥 " ... it's only $300 ! I'll BE BAAHHCK." >> >> I'll subscribe too. ( hey- if you read this, do you review any sights that are IR but DON'T NEED AN ILLUMINATOR ? ) - - & I gotta tell ya how great it is to FINALLY have found an intelligent NO BULLSHIT, STRAIGHT FACTS / MATHEMATICS TYPE OF REVIEWER !!! ( ya learn a thing or 2! )
I purchased one shortly after this video came out and went to mount it today. It would not fit on the pic rail on my rifle, nor several other pic rails I tried. The lack of an easy way to adjust the fit, when it won't go on a rifle, is terrible. There is a 'shim' that is supposed to flex, but it's too thick and does not allow the unit to mount. If you're handy, you can remove the mount and thin the shim, but it's not easy. Second issue, once mounted the laser was high and right of my zero'd optic. I had it in the 6 o'clock position, so needed to go CCW for both windage and elevation. The adjustment knobs were super TIGHT!! Got out a trusty coin and finally started to turn both. No change in laser location. More. No change. More. No change. More...the knobs came off and guess what. The knobs had been 'locked' with locking compound (white, like Rocksett) and the compound was inside the windage and elevation mechanisms. Dead Captain. I sent Cold Harbour an email this evening, so we'll see, but wanted to add this comment for anyone else who may have purchased one. I'll update once I hear back.
@@xmldigitz1 Cold Harbor referred me to Rovyvon, who responded quickly. Short answer, Rovyvon shipped a new, working unit to me quickly. Mounts easily (and solid) and the windage and elevation knobs both work and zero properly. Very happy now.
I had the same issue, with the same end result. Super happy with the laser, and fantastic customer service by RovyVon. I would have zero problems with buying from them again.
Hadn’t heard of that, but will need to look into it. The turrets on this seem solid. Strong, positive clicks and return to zero when making same number of adjustments.
@4MRRanch the turrets are good but you can break them fairly easily on the stock units if you go too far. That was the problem. They're prototyping a bunch of future accessories as well.
As soon as I found put CHS had these available I ordered one. No hesitation. Now I have it mounted to the front of a 12.5" gun for IR stuff and a vis laser. The unit's small enough that I don't feel bad putting a dedicated white light light saber on the thing.
Yup. Have an olight baldr ir on a handgun and the batteries are in the back. Granted, it's probably meant to mount on a siderail for a long gun. Good point on the batteries in front.
I have been waiting for RovyVon to enter the weapons industry! I’ve even chatted with heavy hitters such as cloud defensive to look into the specifics of RovyVon aurora’s and figure out how to make them safe for recoil. My a3 pro out performs almost every single high priced WML’s I’ve ever purchased….for up to 10 times the price!!!!
Really good video. I am wondering if you gave Cold Harbour Supply your feed back on their QD mount. If you did, how did they receive that feed back? I am wondering did they say if that is something that they are going to change to one that will lock up to the rail better. I liked your video so much that I went ahead and subscribed to your channel. I will be going through your past videos and waiting for your new videos.
Glad you appreciate my video style. I did give CHS my feedback and they agreed with me and already shared the same input to RovyVon, who has already upgraded their QD system. Newer units now come with an improved lever.
Well you came to the right place. I like to use data for the performance of things I review, but will still share my thoughts on the practical use case later in the video.
@@DeSmith-o4b if u take it at face value sure, but very few things in life are a 'this is the only way' kinda thing. establishing the facts then adding opinions in later is actually a great way to do everything
Awesome video! Super underated channel! Also it looks like they have released a full power variant of the GL4pro that has an even better ir illuminator.
The real test with all of these at this point is just longevity and durability. Sustaining shock and remaining water resistant are crucial and the main reason I wasn't impressed with my Somogear PEQ15 and NGAL. What do you think?
great unit but, they need to really replace that QD lever as it was a point of failure for my unit after 4 months and no longer clamps properly without tilting upwards. I had mine mounted at 12oclock position
Great video man! Really enjoying your content on all of the IR stuff as I’m just getting into night vision. Picked one of these up this week after watching this review directly from Rovyvon and it was delivered within 3 days of ordering. Mine also appears to have the upgraded turrets that the Defense Distributors version has with the dots on either side of the slot but it does still have the original markings.
Thanks for the feedback. I’m currently testing the higher output versions, and they have improved QD arms that don’t have the fitment issue as this one did. If they prove reliable long term I’ll probably grab a holster
I am trying to get one so I can make holsters. The P320 rail is iffy. Some X300 will dangle loosely out of box unless you adjust the 3 small screws on each side of latch.
I have a newer version of the GL4 where the latch has now been updated and no issues with the p320 now. Also, I saw somebody GL4 fit their p320, so seems like some tolerance issues and it’s luck of the draw. But that’s what you get for $300
I emailed rovyvon a month or so ago to see if it would be possible to get their 3 in 1 model with an IR light rather than a white light. They didn't respond. I'd be a lot more interested if it had a more focused beam pattern and I don't really care about the white light at all
I had reached out prior to acquiring this from cold harbor supply and didn’t get a response for about 6 weeks, I think they were tied up with something. I know villian weapon systems is making a beam focused. Will update yall on how it does.
Totally appreciate the video in the information. This is a great stuff. My hat goes off to you anytime you can find good solid night vision equipment for 300 $400 in the scheme of things that is extremely doable. With that said I’m a great firm believer in surefire, however because they become so popular here in the US and abroad I feel that they have taken that momentum and padded their prices immensely and I completely concur with you the night vision device that they have the aiming laser that fits on the pistol for $1300 is exorbitant, considering what it is come on, but because it says surefire, let’s pack on additional $1000.00 on top of it I do believe that the American people are already being taxed to death in other categories food rent gas electric goes on and on we just can’t ever seem to catch a reprieve. Can we loan behold our brothers up the north from Canada could they have come to our rescue?
Opinions arent welcome. Lol Literally almost every comment that would have feedback would be an opinion. Not a lot of people can talk to about this technology at a professional level.
At the moment just trying to catch up with other requests. I may circle back to the GL4 but lots of other reviews like this already in the works right now
No, it’s been the opposite problem, that it was too loose on some. Current production has an improved latch though. I did see someone’s video where there is appear to be too tight and they had to tap it closed with a mallet .
Great point with mentioning that active aiming isn't good for hitting man size targets at 100, you CAN do it, but passive or some sort of magnified NV optic would be much better
I try to humble people with “practical” use points. Some people that only interpret specs on paper fail to actual consider what’s needed to get the job done.
I like that too. People get too concerned that their laser strays 1 or even 2 moa after hundreds of shots. A laser is for quick NV aiming, not 100y precision shooting. If you want to engage things at 100y at night, get a good passive aiming aiming solution.
I have no reason the believe otherwise. My scorpion SBR has more perceived recoil than my 5.56. The 10mm handgun definitely will out more energy into it than a 5.56 or 300 BLK rifle and it had no issues there either
Handguns have a decent amount of recoil impulse due to lack of mass to help absorb energy and no stock to transfer the impulse to the shooter either. I did have this on a PCC in 9mm (more snappy than my 5.56) and threw it on the 10mm handgun briefly as well. Never had any issues, but haven’t been using it since the review due to testing the next lam on the list
Thanks for this. I particularly appreciate the 10mm Bren you burned through to see if the laser locating hardware would meet. Kinda important to know that this unit isn't just for airsoft and Parabellum girlies -- Real Men with Real Pistols can use it as well.
Thanks! I bought a knockoff surefire from aliexpress a couple years ago for 300. Worked well except for holding laser zero and adjustment tracking. Tried super glue to hold, didn't get it right and now is permanently off 2 low and and 3 left at 20 yards.
The turrets on this seem to be made better, less play and more force to make adjustments. But the somo NGAL has a much better illuminator. Tough choice between the two.. especially for the price difference
@@4MRRanchOut of curiosity, how is the somo ngal holding up? Have you continued use after the last update? Looking at getting one now that they are more available...
I see they have 2 higher power models in their website now. The full power vis laser would be fun, but without the option of switching the ir laser to low I dont think I'd want to go that route. I agree with your point on wanting a lower power ir laser option to avoid the blooming. Looking forward those tests
Awesome review Thanks 2 Pros and a full power and I also own the Surefire xvl2 -irc as well and I must say it definitely outshines it I definitely felt the flashlight comparison should have been against the xvl2 IRC sense flashlights are about the same
Bought one based on the vid from amazon same day, since purchase the PL4 is “currently unavailable” on Amazon and as of this writing it hasn’t shipped yet. Guess time will tell if its solid or not
In a best-case scenario where the lasers are parallel, couldn't the offset stay .1" at any practical range? Did you check at further distance to see if there was an angle to the offset?
In a best case, they would continue to travel parallel at the distance they are physically offset by, in the case of the GL4 they would be 0.3” apart vertically only. Keep in mind though, lasers diverge with distance so they would eventually overlap as they expand.
you can shim your rail with tin foil. cut into thin strips, one of my p320s needed 1strip for the wilson combat, and my pdp compact needed 2 strips, my other pdp pro didnt need any nor did my other p320 or ar15s. the surefire tape switch fits these as well, as will the paddle switch back cap of the surefire... the one flaw I found was if you turn it on then select off on the side knob, moving the knob back to a position immediately turns that selection on. the only risk here is if you immediately go to ir, you will not know its accidently on unless you are looking in your nods.
Personally I wouldn’t want to rely on shims for anything beyond a range toy. If it’s a range toy and if it loosens then no worries on adding a new shim, but for home defense/duty use you won’t have time. Interesting your 320 worked. Might be a manufacturing tolerance issue with the GL4 Interesting info on the tape switch
Only reason I can see to buy this is coyote control on a 10/22. And I don't live on a farm anymore. Where do you go to shoot with this-- at night - without the same couple of assholes who live a mile away - calling 911 complaining about the noise every time?
From my current level of testing, yes. Except it doesn’t fit most holsters, you’d have to get a custom holster made or get a surefire xvl2 fitted holster.
My guess is those reviews are related to bad fitment of the QD latch like I showed. I reported how my unit worked, can’t really speak to how other units worked. It wasn’t sent to me by RovyVon either
How do the controls work? Like do you slide it to be vis, wl, ir laser / ir light, etc. Oh, I think I see it now at the beginning. Looks like a rotary dial?
