The much, much larger wheel of the Tilta FIZ, or perhaps even better, remapping the wheel to the range you're interested in, will go a long way to helping you pull those tiny focus movements.

Hah! I get it man. After owning all them for quite some time now my only advice would be the 150 is more a specialty lens. The focus is so hard to grab for moving subjects and 150 is quite extreme so I only use this lens sometimes and for a couple shots. If you want a lens you’ll use often I’d go with the 45. It’s my favorite lens. Best in low light and a fantastic portrait style lens.

I love to own these lenses for my BMPCC 6K and i'm probably going to by some but would you recommend buying the PL mount and then have a adaptor to the EF mount? I feel these lenses would be a great investment for camera's later allong the line. Maybe in a few years you want to buy something with PL system so you can still use this set. I love using gear for a long time.

@@initialfocus I appreciate that, but I would need the adapter. Decided to stick with e mount. I love my 45. I'm thinking 15 in the next few days and 150 later.. I can't decide if I want to get the probe lens first and 150 after. I already have a 200mm, but not cine. Sooo many decisions!!

I would think that if you paired your motor with the puck or the larger controller, you have a lot easier time with the fine focusing and tracking. The wheel on the handle seems more fit for macro (large, not closeup) focusing rather than micro (tiny adjustments) focusing. I have both the handle and the puck, and the puck is infinitely more usable for tracking and fine adjustment focus.

Oh definitely the larger focus wheels would be a better fit for this but I was a one man band for this video so using my handheld setup I wanted to test out how easy it was for single use. I found not using any electric focus wheel was best for ultra fine movements without someone pulling focus for me.

What size adapter ring are you using for the Tilta mini matte box? I can't find an 86mm adapter. I only see 85 and 87 available for order. Thanks.

Dude that series of shots sold me on the entire IRIX line… buying the 45 tomorrow and the 150 next! Do you have the 30 as well, for OTS shots? Or do you find that the 45 does fine for OTS on the BM6K? Would love to see comparison of field of view / usage between the 45 and 30…

QQ: can I ask how you mounted you FF device? I want a super light rig that I can run handheld but have follow focus but struggling to figure out which and how/where to mount the device (probably not with the 150 lol but just saying that you’re set looked like it could be handheld). Thx in advance.

Holy smokes that is crazy how little movement is needed to adjust focus. Definitely will only use this for static subjects.

So you think the wobbliness as you put it is from the rolling shutter and not your on a 150mm hand held?

Correct. Any wobble seen in footage always comes from the camera. Lenses don’t create that distortion.

Thanks for doing this one as well and looking forward to the comparisons with color. I am getting the 12K but waiting until January because I want to see if any issues pop up in the first few months. So, Best guess as to what's the next lens they are coming out with?

Nice! I’ve been hearing all sorts of rumors but most agree that filling in with a 24mm, 35mm and 85mm would really begin to complete a full lineup. I don’t have any solid evidence on any of these additions though

Hey man! I’m debating if I should buy this lens or not for Sony . I already have the Sony 90mm macro ( photo lens of course ) but not sure if this lens is that good as for me to buy it. Planning on doing product shots etc in studio work but concerned because of the focal length which is long and if I the gears really come in handy for studio work.

I have the Sony 90 macro and two things… if you’re closer, you’ll have to do more focus stacking. Standing back with longer lens is a lot less work as you’ve got greater DOF with the shot. Secondly if you’re interested in pulling focus, the 90 will flip from manual to auto with the front segment when you drop a ring on it… no issue with the Irix. I’m keeping 90 for general event photos but planning to use the 150 in studio for both photo and video product work.

@Michael Tobin. Forgive me for being a total noob, but this lens doesn’t seem that impressive compared to what I can do with my galaxy note 8 smart phone telephoto lens up close. Don’t get me wrong this is awesome, it’s just that I can get pretty close to things on a phone that cost me 280 dollars. Do you think lenses are like race cars....where you can add more and more power but it makes less and less difference ? I could send you some sample pics to illustrate. Not intending any offense, just saying that lens probably cost several times what I paid for my phone and as a beginner it seems that diminishing returns go up stupid fast as far as cost versus performance. However, I like science and engineering so I’m not looking at it from a cinematographer or a photo buff perspective.
