The HW1080 is a great ESC. I've been running one in my TRX4 since I built it, with no issues at all. I have just put an ISDT ESC70 in my sons FTX Mauler (same as the HSP Rock Hammer), and this is easily programmed through an app on your phone, connected via Bluetooth. It's got stock settings for crawlers, track cars, and loads of others, or you can put your own settings in it. And it's only £20!!! And that wasn't a bad effort for your first soldering job. 👍🏻 The trick is making sure have a tip on the iron wide enough to get on the wires, and hot enough to put the heat in, but not melt the insulation. Also, keep the tip clean with a wet Sponge, and keep it tinned with solder. That'll help with heat transfer. 👍🏻
@@UpperLeftRC, 8T is probably too hot for the FJ, but here's a demo of that combo in my Ecto. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oll-MbBeSXo.html
Great video man! It is nice to see you jumping into the world of soldering. It isn't rocket science. I don't know why so many people are so afraid of it.
Yeah for a long time I didn’t think I wanted to solder because I assumed it would be hard and technical but it’s actually really simple, it’s like a hot glue gun but with metal lol 😂👍🏻
The hobbywing 1080 is a really big upgrade from the stock brushed ESC supplied with most ready to runs. The programmable drag break makes a big differences as well as you can setup the strength to match the actual weight of your RC car. On the 2 crawlers I have fitted with (my TRX-4 and old school Tamiya bruiser) it I have used a servo extension to made a programming port so I can plug in the programming and tweak the drag break and other setting with out needing to take the body off. That way I can change the ESC setting back and forwards between being setup with trail crawler or for hill climbs in less time than it takes to change a battery back. It also made it really easy to workout how much drag break you need to hold your car without just opting for 100%, which helps make the car more controllable for hill descents.
Ya got a decent set up so should be easy for ya to do. Better than wallmart special I used. Tell your uncle to buy a holmes hobbies motor to go with that esc, and then you will see a massive improvement. Plus there pretty cheap also.
If you want a little better slow crawl, try swapping your pinion to a smaller size, less teeth, and should change fairly drastically if it has a large pinion. Is Uncle going to put some taller tires on it?
I use the same battery I used in this FJ, it’s a Venom 5000mah battery and it comes with multiple adapter plugs for different battery Connections! It’s about $45 on amazon
I just got a 1080 a week ago and have been using it in my Gatekeeper. I've noticed a HUGE difference in the low speed control and the heat is minimal compared to the Reedy ESC that came with it. Excellent video man. I use the same setting that Holmes Hobbies uses. I plan on getting a HH crawlmaster sport, the cheapest one, so it will have more torque. What motors do you run?
