Murg Makhani, literally means Butter Chicken!
Synonymous with Indian Food, Butter Chicken is world famous and rightly so. The "Butter" or the "Makhani" part in the name of the dish, is for two reasons, the fact that it has butter in it but also because the gravy is smooth like butter! Butter Chicken or Murg Makhani, is primarily made in Northern India and Pakistan and associated with 'North Indian Cuisine".
Usually, a Tandoor is needed to cook the chicken to add to the gravy, makes it hard to replicate the flavors and aromas at home, here we have 2 options to get that smokey authentic tandoor aroma. In the video we show you how to get that smokey flavor infused in the Butter chicken with some coal or Liquid Smoke is available at a lot of grocery stores and VOILA!
We had filmed this recipe when we just started our "Show Me The Curry" journey in 2007, yes, it has been that long! It did really well and is one of those recipes that we have used over and over again for ourselves and we realized that even after so many years, there is little we would change in that recipe! The other day, we were talking and we looked at the video and we could barley watch it - not only was it SD but also, since we were just starting out, we realized we could do a lot better now! Sp presenting to you, the new version of an old classic!

Quick question, can I cook with using my instant pot and can I substitute instead of 1 cup of heavy cream for my homemade Greek yogurt that I made using my instant pot for your butter chicken recipe

You can use an Instant Pot but the texture may be slightly different than baking the chicken separately. Greek yogurt will also work but be aware that the flavor of the yogurt is definitely more tart than heavy cream.

Hi, Will the chicken cook all the way in those minutes on broil setting?

It does cook but in case there are some parts that are not fully cooked, it will finish cooking in the gravy.

What is liquid smoke and how do you use it?

Liquid smoke is a concentrated form of "smoke" derived from burning wood through condensation. It is highly concentrated so just a few drops go a long way. You can either add a few drops to the chicken marinade or add a few drops to the gravy.

Anyone know how to do this with either tofu or mushrooms?

You can use the same process of marination and baking for tofu.

But, if you're gonna do tofu and you're not vegan, use paneer and, if you like, peas. It's quite lovely. Paneer is a cheese, but it has a tofu like texture and doesn't melt, so you can fry it off nicely before adding it to your gravy.

Its not really coal flavored but rather mimics a smokey tandoor flavor.

so glad you guys are cooking again , was disgusted with your carona virus BS video , people go to cooking video to relax and learn to cook some dalish food and get away from 24/7 news plandemic, yet every food channel on utube had considered them self expert on medical virus and in their arrogance importance thinking we need you guys to tell as to wash hands and give medical advise or what ever , yet when I visited any of the medical doctors or health channel I subscribe to, not single one of them was telling me how to make pita bread or chikan curry, anyway glad you are back to cooking amazing food, love it, will have to try this

Lol! Yes, there were a lot of advice videos going on, but our pandemic videos were all about how to buy and use food items and recipes using pantry items, not medical advice. Hoping you didn't confuse us with the others :). Glad you liked this video!

Thank you for wanting to see and hear us :). Many of these "faceless" videos are recipes that are already on our channel but were filmed years ago in poor quality. Since we have already "talked" through the recipe once, we felt this method was a fresher/faster approach for those who don't have the time to hear all the details again, but still serves as a reminder of a great recipe. Don't worry, you'll still see us in the next video. :)
