So, you have your house keys on the lanyard loop? Funny story . . . back in the late seventies-early eighties, the main local Post Office was getting robbed by armed junkies so often that they started keeping the key to the sorting room behind the counter attached to the lanyard loop of a WW II-vintage S&W M&P .38--visibly loaded, too. It was kept under the counter at the station nearest the entrance, so that as soon as someone ran in with a gun yelling, "Everyone put your hands in the air . . . " they could grab and shoot. I think they only had to shoot two the first month and one or two the next year to make them quit.
James is such a playa...he can slum it with us poors when he wants to get his crude jollies...then whisks himself back to the land of Beretta factory tours and the European gun Jet Setters with a snap of his freshly exfoliated and manicured fingers. 💸✈🍹
The BUL Cherokee is a rebranded Tanfoglio Force (former EAA Witness and actual IFG Defiant in the US). BUL had a long relationship with Tanfoglio. It's similar to the Jericho because the Jericho is a Tanfoglio Series 88 with a fancy dust cover, originally assembled in Israel from Tanfoglio parts.
Neutron Alchemist I was about to say the EAA Italian Tanfoglio Witness pistols have been fairly cheap CZ copies over the years and good pistols. Nowadays the cheap Sarsilmaz Turkish CZ copies have come on strong.
@@darthsquidious215 My nephew bought an EAA Tanfoglio Witness in .45ACP and liked the pistol so much that when it got stolen he got another one. Haha. I have seen lots of SARs also that folks seem to like, like those SAR 9s. Get the one that fits you the best that is comfortable to shoot. Try to test drive/shoot as many as you can before you buy one. CZ75s are good pistols and I have shot a lot of them back during my gun club days. I shot one a several years back that had a really nice trigger and was very accurate. Problem was it had a red dot on it that would wash out in sunlight so I prefer iron sights. My biggest dislike of the CZs is the lack of gripping surface for racking the slide because the slide is inside the frame unlike other pistols that are the opposite.
I picked up a g2c for 180 and carried it for awhile, sold it off for 250 during pandemic times and bought a new g3c for 260 and that's what I currently carry. It's just my work gun, cheap and does the job, keep all my nice expensive guns at home
Jesus christ on a scooter, I wish I could see prices like that on decent guns. Where I'm from any canik is at least $500 and even used berretas are at least $700. Only pistols you can get cheap in my region are hi points and Taurus
I bought a SAR B6P brand new for $206 several years ago. It's a polymer framed straight up CZ75 compact clone. I've won steel challenge matches with it. I also own a legit CZ75B, and the two feel vastly different in terms of quality, but the SAR shoots just as well, and has seen way more abuse (since I don't care what happens to it),. If you can pick up a CZ clone for under $300, I'd say go for it. It's a very solid design that's well replicated around the world.
Best cheap pistol I've bought so far was a surplus stainless IMI Jericho for $250. Finish is a little rough on the edges, but that's just added character. Runs like a top and still bang on accurate. Too bad the secret of surplus pistols seems to be out, and they get bought out fast unless it's in .40 S&W
The secret about every good deal gets out so fast these days. I used to have a site I used to buy demil ammo components for dirt cheap, now when they get new stock it sells out instantly.
JonD This pistol is way underrated and brand new it originally sold for $399 MSRP and street value. The trigger is sweet and its very accurate and reliable. Its my favorite sub compact. It was not my cheapest though.
@@rbm6184 My only complaint is the way I hold this pistol is with a competition double thumb forward grip. In that grip, I feel the beaver tail feels somewhat sharp. Especially if you reach up with the thumb to decock. Other than that. It’s a great piece
Your old model is essentially the Witness poly. Also pretty much the same pistol as the Rock Island Armory MAPP. Tangfolio makes the parts for all of them with some assembly elsewhere in some cases. Even the SAR Arms B6 is a close copy of the same pistol. I suspect the new generation had cosmetic changes made just to give a little separation in the brands.
@@TheCrystalJules Not really. I have numerous firearms I carry that are smaller. All of those I carry in holsters from N82. They are extremely comfortable and their classic series fit many firearms of similar size. I have the Rock Island to but have never carried it. Does shoot quite well.
@@jefferytillis8309 Ahh no worries. The RIA is my only handgun and I'm making one of the safariland pro-fit holsters work, but I imagine there must be purpose-made holsters for one of the many licensed copies of this gun that have come out over the last couple decades
@@TheCrystalJules I also have the RIA, and have the same problem with holsters. I use a Fobus IWBM holster for 4:00 carry, and it does seem to fit well. Not as Gucci as AIWB, but it works.
Great video! I bought a Cherokee (Gen 3) last year and have been waiting for a well-done review. I love mine, it’s second only to my CZ-75, and recommend it to others every chance I get. It’s sturdy, reliable, accurate, and cool looking. I even dropped some glow in the dark green paint on the front sight. Bonus-the Cherokee, my CZ 75, and Jericho all use the same mags.
Interesting! I remember the early Bul offerings, but for some reason thought they were some small E. European company. I am fond of the oddball CZ75 clones, so this has my attention. I imagine some Czech executive is still burned that the Soviets refused to allow CZ to patent the design in the West...all that money lost to unlicensed copies...
Provided there was something patentable in the CZ75, any patent would have expired at max in 1995 anyway. However the BUL Cherokee is a rebranded Tanfoglio Force (former EAA Witness and actual IFG Defiant in the US). BUL had a long relationship with Tanfoglio.
Best cheap gun I purchased was a SAR B6C. Another CZ75 clone-ish. Very accurate, 100% reliable and well made. Cost about the same as 1-1/2 yeet cannons and twice as attractive.
Picked up a SAR B6 from L&L for 229 a while back since I already had CZ75 mags and the price was too cheap. Gun is a serious steal, very nice polymer frame CZ 75 clone from Turkish military manufacturer
I think we sell the newest Cherokee for $300 or less right now. We give one away with a purchase of a hk vp9 or a diamond back ar15 package. I love the Cherokee, i have owned almost every Cz clone, sar, tangfolio, lots of jerichos, Canik, and some others I probably can’t remember.
Nice looking guns. Seem similar ro the new Jericho polymer and the CZ polymer clones from Turkey. My best cheap gun was a Russian Makarov I got back in the late 90's for $99. Still got it, Still great.
I've been tempted to buy a gen 3 for months now but found a good deal on one of the new polymer enhanced jericos so I've held off on buying one. Pretty sure Bul has been making alot of magnum research pistols for awhile now.
@TheMsdos25 It was the first one I've ran across at any local gun shop. Would have preferred the traditional metal frame over the enhanced/jerico 2 but beggers can't be choosers
Cool Vid. I looked up what a Bul would cost on two different websites. All I had time to look up was the two and they were brand new Cherico's; not used. They were about $365 and up. One of my favorite things to do is to buy something cheap and see how it runs. I have been impressed with my Taurus G3 9mm. It runs like a top with every type of ammo and was only $250 brand new. Back in 1991 I bought a Norinco M213 in 9mm for $115. That thing is still running like a top. My sister and her husband have it now and they still love it. When I got into reloading in 1994, I overloaded about 25 rounds of 9mm by a couple of grains and knew they could be dangerous in a lesser gun. I thought, "what the heck" and I shot them through that chunk of steel/boat anchor Norinco and it didn't crack or blow up in my hand. Yes, I was crazy as a younger man; looking for any reason to blow myself up. Heritage Rough Rider is still the best bang for the cowboy shooter buck; although it doesn't compare to the Ruger single six in aesthetics. Keep up the great vids.
My best performing handgun was a Taurus Pt111 Millennium G2. It cost 250 bucks and over the 7 years I had it the gun experienced zero failures over many, many thousands of rounds. It was the only gun I could afford at the time and it was my daily carry for most of that time. It had no business doing as well as it did. I later sold it to my uncle, who himself had well over 100+ guns and he always commented on how much he liked it. It was a true unicorn.
@@HaroldTheSloth replace the plastic striker guide with a stainless, then replace the trigger and spring from keep tinkering and you will like them even more.🎉
Looks a lot like a EAA Witness, which is the Tanfoglio Force 99. I have the FAB92 version, with the longer barrel and a safety/decocker on the slide (Tanfoglio claims that this mod was requested by Italian police).. I got that one for $268 several years ago. It was the first gun I bought online. Just like BUL, Tanfoglio has a version with the thicker handle and caliber interchangeability. The one I have uses CZ 75 mags. Actually, looking at the polymer frame and the sights, I think the BUL might be a clone of the Force 99.
I just recently bought a Smith SD9 (with magazine!!) for $160, it looked like it may have had a box of ammo through it. It's basically G19 sized, but somehow feels better and handier. I lurve it. Put in a full Apex trigger kit, dry-fired it a few times, and put the stock parts back in.
What about the Sar b6c? It's pretty much identical to the BUL Cherokee you bought and can be found new for $219. They have solid build quality and reliability. It'd be interesting to see the difference between the two, the BUL being made in Isreal and the Sar in Turkey. I'd love to see Hop do a poverty tier gun review of some Sar pistols.
So the more I hear and see about BULL ARMORY the more I want at least one of them. With the reasonable price of that gen3 you tested I WANT IT. Either one would do just fine but personally would go for the newer model. Mostly because of the shorter barrel and accessory rail under the barrel. Always look forward to your videos. Keep it up TFB and I’ll try to do the same.👍💪🇺🇸
Got the Hatchet (Glock clone), 1911 Government, and probably going to order one of the Gen 3 Cherokees. Definitely impressed with the Bul Armory stuff. They make a lot of 1911 race guns but I don't need one of those. The SAS IIs are interesting but there's other guns in front of it on the list.
best deal i got was a smith and wesson 642 with a speedloader and one box of 38 special through it for 200 bucks. came with 350 rounds of ball target ammo and 10 rounds of +p defense ammo
@Smoking Crab Guy in the Army was moving to California from Alaska and couldn't drive it through Canada. Since California had that magazine limit ban and he had to register it at the installation he decided to part with it lol.
I bought a generation 2 compact about 12 years ago. it cost me $1,062 extremely expensive but here in my country guns are worth 3 times more. So no choice. I have carried it with me since then and 0 problem. Nice video as always congrats.👍👍
I have the gen 1 Cherokee..found it for 250 bucks.. a few years ago..on gunbroker..old Western scrounger sells beat up ones.. mime has missing plastic on grip ..luv it..never jammed...just like my 90's Jericho 941
That latest generation looks very much like the Sar Arms CM9 gen. 2 I bought several years ago from CDNN Sport for $259 which has been a excellent pistol which also uses CZ 75 magazines.
I was literally just looking at the SAR before I was looking at this. Cz 75s are getting as bad as 1911s for the number of manufacturers to chose from. Idk how ill decide
@@darthsquidious215 I have several pistols from SAR Arms/Sarsilmaz and Canik/Tristar... All of them have performed flawlessly over the past five to seven years.
both BUL Cherokee and Sarsilmaz CM9 are very tough handguns for the money. The newer BUL Cherokee Compact is chunky, a bit heavy for carry, but offers some style. You're not going to see a lot of bad reviews of this handgun. If you like the earlier grip style James comments on in this video, I believe Rock Island sells those as the MAPP, including an all-black compact version.
Looks a lot like what I thought was my favorite cheap gun. It was a CZ75 copy. Sarsilmaz BP9 I think. Followed closely by a Canik made Tristar C100. Both absolutely reliable. Both inexpensive. Both Turkish. Both CZ copies. Both sold later.
As far as cz-75 clones go the Sar cm9 gen 2 takes the cake for me. Good build quality, the safety is stiff but it's been 100% reliable after many hundreds of rounds. Granted I still carry a 43xmos but is what it is lol
These are similar to the Tanfoglio and Sarsilmaz (or whatever) models... theyre all built to have interchangeable calibers. My Tanfoglio Witness Elite Match can be converted to 38super, 45acp, and 22lr... the 9mm can be 22tcm, 40sw, and 22lr. Versatile pistols. They can be parts swapped really easily.
Nice video For your auto loading pistols that have small or slick grip areas Pachmayr’s makes a Gripper Slip-On Grip Heat it up with a hair dryer and sort of roll it on to the grip area Do NOT try an force it on , or can tear ( I did that )
What sold me on this Gun was that I had the Sar arms version several yrs ago and regretted selling it so when I saw these for $299!! I had to have one... Def plan on keeping this one as it seems like every time I sell a gun it's either hard to find again or the price increased to high
I own a CZ 75 PCR (which is almost identical to the 1st gen Cherokee) and I really like the CZ. It’s a smooth shooter, very accurate, lightweight for a composite metal frame gun, and it has no problems eating any cheap ass ammunition or high dollar ammunition. The one downside is, it’s a little bit too bulky for CC here in Southeast Texas. Oh btw I am a fellow Florida man, from central Florida.
Ya these are awesome and a great rec for newer shooters, who in my experience teaching 4-5 totally newbies the basics, are strangely confused by striker fired guns? A hammer fired gun is my go to for "hey I know youve never shot let alone held a gun, let me slowly walk you through the basics" kindve people.
I have the eaa witness p carry in 10mm and it looks exactly like the bul Cherokee. Which I'd also the Tangoflio Force 99. This is the most rebranded remade renamed gun in the world next to the beretta 92...
I have a G model. Its decent. rugged reliable. Trigger is good, recoil is mild, gripping is very good. Making it exceptionally accurate. The magazine from cz works well but doesn't eject very well.
Ooohhh that Gen 1 is oozing cool. I wish we could get our hand guns back in the UK. Can’t see that ever happening. Think we might be slightly better off that the Canadians now though!
Picked up a police trade smith and wesson 640 for under 3.3 benjamins. Finished is scratched and much heavier than a 442 but no Hillary hole, and with hogue grips 357 magnums are as shootable as 38 special in a 442. Reliable and DA is slightly heavy but smooth and predictable. Better than all the 22 lr revolvers i’ve tried.
Looks like a good choice, especially on a budget. For availability of accessories, I still prefer Glock, S&W, Sig, and other traditional brands. It's great that Buhl is bringing their guns into the USA. Thanks, James!
Looks just like a SAR BP6C, if it runs the same because they look the same it should be a great gun. ETA: My son has a Euro police surplus CZ75D compact with a lanyard loop and he has a key ring fob of Ren and Stimpy on it.
It's a Tanfoglio Force clone. Tanfoglio basically built the Jericho for Israel. It's loosely based on the CZ75 as in the barrel hood locking mechanism only. Everything else is more or less alien.
BUL makes good stuff. I love how the cheap gun video can be construed to a behind the scenes power move by James' son Hop as a claimant to the TFBTV throne.
As to why BUL makes cheap guns, it makes sense. Israel for defense reasons need to put out cheap, solid guns at a very fast pace should everything go to crap. The American gun market benefits from that reality.
I'm intrigued; I like CZs and I like the guns I've seen from BUL. But since my state has gone full-retar5d and implemented a 10-rd mag limit there hardly seems a point.
The gen 1 Cherokee looks a lot like the Tanfoglio MAPP that is being sold .by Armscor. The Armscor version is a top seller in their product line. It has a .380 model and also a 22 tcm version.
Gander Mountain stores in the U.S. had the 2nd gen Cherokee’s for $279.99….bc my dumbass failed to buy one just b4 they stopped production…🤦♂️ …went back to the store a week later, that’s when I found out they had stopped production/importation of them, and could no longer find them except on gunbroker and by that time they were over $600.
The difference between the BUL Cherokee and the G Cherokee, as stated, was the G Cherokee has a larger grip. The larger grip was to accommodate an attachable shoulder stock option for military/police purposes only.
I think I've got this W, hands down: I won a Sar CM9 gen2 on Gun broker for $178 a couple years ago. That was a BEAST of a gun... Similar to the CZ P07. The most accurate handgun I own. 100% reliable. Looks: 10/10 aesthetic and aggressive. sexEEE!! I'll take my award.
Turkish manufacturer Sarsilmaz offers CZ75 clones at a similar price point. I have their compact version, SARS B6P. Best shooting gun I own. It is an excellent value, if you can find one.
It’s a solid value at around 350 dollars, but I’ll wait for the Gen 4 when and if it will come with an optics cut. Not that there is anything wrong with having a pistol with just iron sights, but I already have pistols with iron sights. Looking for something with features this side of the millennium.
There was a time Tanfoglio Force 99 (RIA MAPP) were around 300 in the Philippines, the price was best bang for the buck since the regular price was around 550-600....the fully Italian made counterparts were 650-700.....in comparison, same price as the Italian versions the Cherokee Gen II/III were largely ignored and undermarketed.....the Alfa Projekt-badged Tanfoglio Force were worst, priced nearly 1000 for years, the price was eventually brought down to 500 and someone adopted the last one from the shop that had it for more than a decade.
My cheapest pistol new was the Phoenix Arms HP22A at $125 followed by the Heritage Rough Rider single action revolver at $157 both .22 rimfire. Cheapest centerfire pistol brand new for me was the Taurus G2c at $200. They all run reliably and are accurate.
@@smokingcrab2290 Hmmm. Mine have never done that. Those mags are factory made in-house by Taurus. Usually fully loaded mags are the best thing you can do for mag springs. What wears mag springs out is continual usage. I trust you do know that you can put bends into weak mag springs to increase tension if you need to.
Now that IWI manufactures the Jericho in Vietnam at the Z111 factory, if you want a true Israeli CZ-75 clone you have to buy from Bul or Magnum Reserach, who imports the Jericho from Bul and rebrands it as the Baby Eagle.
