I watched this video like 3-4 years ago. I’ve been craving this ever since. Today I finally got to try this place. I had the roast pork and crispy pork with white rice. It was mind blowing. So freaking good. Anyone who has a chance to try this place I 1000% recommend.
I have seen a lot of you want to know what is the name of the restaurant and where is it located: Name is Wah Fung located in 79 Chrystie Street in Chinatown NYC. For those who are familiar with NYC subway system, you can take the B D or Q train to Grand Street. When you get off the station, you are located between Grand Street and Chrystie Street. That restaurant / eatery is within walking distance from the station. I hope this will help you.
I highly recommend this restaurant!! Their char siu is amazing! One thing though is that there is almost always a line in this restaurant.... usually in the afternoon and less often in the morning. The line can be extremely long around the time people get off work. It's situated near the intersection of Chrystie street and Hester street :D
The (Char Siu Restaurant) he is talking about is located on Chrysite Street between Hester Street and Grand Street lower east side Manhattan NYC. IT HAS A Red Awning with Chinese writing. It’s across from an island street park. I tracked it down and I hope you enjoy it . I need to go myself when feel like taking a long ride to NYC fighting traffic is a pain in the ass. At one time lived nearby.
This is still my all time favorite RU-vid video ever. It's hard to pinpoint what I like best. Mikey is just so on point in this video. His charming personality shines from start to finish. This guy knows good food and this char siu looks mouth watering tasty. Mikey can put away a ton of food. Like, Jesus, that's a lot of food. You do you Mikey.
You have NO IDEA how many times I have watched this. I'm dying here in southern Virginia. If anyone knows of a location like this shop in North Carolina or Virginia, PLEASE CLUE ME IN!! I'm dying here! PLEASE!! Have crispy pork mercy!
Rickey Moore I am pretty sure there are some REAL Chinese food restaurants around DC Chinatown area. No don't go to the Chinese take out places. They won't have the food you are looking for. Go to the one where they hang roast pork, ducks, chicken, etc on display window. And/or the one that make Cantonese wontons or Congees. Those are your best bet for good Chinese food.
Kendrick ross Most of them are that price or more here too. I'm talking about dirt cheap places that serve food that is nearly inedible. Really, only the lunch specials will ever be that cheap.
+Kelvin there is no accurate direct english translation for 'shokugeki no soma' because shokugeki is a made up word but i infer that a meaning could be: soma's dinner table shock/competition. the longer/alternate title is food wars!: shokugeki no soma so by that, it is basically a anime about making food and competing.
I have been going to this place since I was little. I love the owner, he gives so much meat. I still remember when that was only $3 for that much. My favorite is rice noodles with fish balls and char siu. Omg that just tastes so good!!!
I just went with my buddy for the first time after watching this. He doesn't have much experience with ethnic foods (from CT), and I'm Korean... but we both could not stop eating. The Sauce is unreal! so Thanks for the video! Definitely going back at some point and have to try the roast pork belly.
I visited this place twice in the past month purely because I watched this video. I would have never walked in here in a million years if not for your enthusiastic recommendation. There is ALWAYS a line which I'm sure your review had something to do with. Great find......thanks! :-)
Mike isn’t over exaggerating there’s a reason for the long line during the lunch & evening hrs the char sui is delicious the star of the BBQ meats, but you won’t go wrong with the other choices of BBQ meats crispy pig, duck, soy sauce &BBQ chicken is on the money.well worth the money I rate this place a 20 out of 10,if your ever on Christie Street in Manhattan Chinatown stop by and get yourself some deliciousness.
Bro. the char siu rice for $3.75 is really Good price. I know the char siu we can get somewhat better quality in Hong Kong. The one good char siu in Hong Kong is "Choy Lee"楚記 in central, Hong Kong, I don't know if still exits, it's located at a alley, closed to Sheung Wan, the old Hongkongers might know that. But brother you get a box of char siu rice for just $3.75, I can guarantee you best price in town. For the best quality char siu should be not darker red color. It should fresh red, because darker red means it was made with frozen pork, when the cook roasts the char siu, the pork juice runs out, and it turns out little juice within the pork, that's why some part it turns out darken red. But considering the price for $3.75 which is the best price in NYC I guess. Cool.
He takes a load of fiber pills once he gets full, then once he shits out all the food, he continues. But that was my first theory. Maybe he has a clone, who eats twice as much as the normal human being. But that was my second theory Maybe he gives the food to someone and have them finish it for him. But that was my third theory. Maybe he does what Patrick does in the eating contest video, he doesn't taste the food.
Edmund --- He is a professional, competitive eater. He can expand his stomach to hold vast amounts of food. For example, the night before an eating competition, eat a watermelon followed by drinking a gallon of water.
i am so incredibly envious of you. im laying here, trying to figure out how my family is gonna eat , and you travel and eat so much good food. you are very fortunate.
I ate there just YESTERDAY, and you are so right. Amazing!! The BBQ pork, char sui, was amazing…and I rarely eat meat these days. Thanks for all your videos. Love your channel, when you are focused on Chinatown in NYC.
Thank you, you have been teaching me Chinese. After watching your How to prepare Char Siu video, I was in a local Texas Chinese restaurant, ordering take out and one of the items was Pork Egg Foo Young. Well, the gal who took my order recounted it to another gal to take my order to the kitchen. With no effort, among all the Chinese being said, as clear as day, I heard and recognized "Char Siu" Here in Texas, we have a lot of feral hogs, so can you do a video on cooking whole roast pig ?
I finally made it here!! Watched this video in 2016, made it here in 2022. Actually came back to this video to find the name of the place. SO GOOD. The duck is excellent. There seems to be a line usually (went more than once). And you have to pay in cash. Amazing experience
Thanks Mike... Tonight I have a Celebration Dinner at a local Chinese Restaurant here in Honduras and you ... Ruined it for me!.. No way it will be as good as what I just saw!!!! Aaaah to hear the crunching of the skin of the roasted pork... The stuff culinary dreams are made of!!!! I'm definitely going to visit my aunt in New Jersey and look up all those great places in your videos!!!
Same.I Have so many childhood memories coming back to me when it's Raining.Tge Coziness and the Slight Chill of Pillows when you leave the Windows open for a while and the moment when you lay on it makes you want fall asleep instantaniously
I've never wanted char siu more than I did after watching this video. Thanks for all you do sir. You've opened me up to many amazing locations. Keep on eating.
are you my long lost brother? I love the sound of rain too when I'm not outside and I feel that same sense of comfort that you're describing, one of my favourite foods is fried chicken and my dad used to be a chef. I feel like we are at least long lost cousins.
This was on my list to eat when we went to NYC, but we were too full after we went to the Great NY Noodle Town. Now it's making me sad that we skipped this. If only we had bigger stomachs.
I have been here twice since seeing this video. Your desriptions of the food was spot on. Looking forward to trying out some more of the spots you have shown us on your channel. Thumbs up!!
+chinafakeeggs there is a lot selling but not that much meatt that's why after watching this video it makes me think that they are not holding back with the meat they put.
I thought it was like 7 dollars or something but 3.75 is crazily cheap for all that amount! man I wish I lived in NY (in the buildings upstairs this shop) xD
these container cost like 6.95 and it can fill u and another person.... Meanwhile fancy restaurant that puts a basil leaf, swirly caramel, and 1 beef slice beef strip.. that would be $235... Kappa
I am a native new yorker who LOVES Char Sui. I am in northern florida awaiting my fate with Hurricane Irma and all i want is some really good Char Sui. So i went to the internet to vicariously live through others and i found your channel. You strictly dumpling channel is putting a huge smile on my face while the storm in whirling outside. This food porn will see me through this storm...or i will die hungry. Love your channel and your cooking videos.
I like watching these Hong Kong footages of these BBQ chefs cutting up those pork belly, roast duck and char sui in such a fast pace and careful safe manner. It's impressive but scary too lol.
omg im so hungry.. Char siu stalls in my area only give me 5-6 strips of meat. Im so jealous now.. ;_; He probably gave you a lot because you're promoting their stalls haha. Still, thats awesome.
Nope, this place usually gives this much all the time. Omg and if you buy a large, I think its around $5-$6, SO MUCH CHAR SIU. I love this place, the owner is so nice, he gives so much that the container will not close properly, but the wife of the owner only gives a little.
