Just a small clarification: Best does not mean most powerful. My picks for the Best Commanders of Kaldheim are based off a lot of factors and personal preference.
It took me a while to see why you were such a good card to use in multiple formats......I was like " Ehhhhh, I don't get it. " and then I was like " AH HA! Cheap ramp on a low costing rock, duh!!!
The criteria Mitch usually follows for a good commander is one that is good, enjoyable, somewhat unique and not broken. Brigi might get the golden toilet.
@@TonyScimeca correction thats spike number 2 tolarian community college made a video on underrated 1 cmc cards of each color in blue whim of volrath was one of them
I bought all the pieces for my Vorinclex Infect deck the day it was spoiled. Just in case a bunch of the random infect creatures that have never been reprinted spiked.
@@stevesmith5883 you were probably fine but i do agree though i think they maybe be bought a bit for phyrexian tribal decks I think the bigger worry is which creatures that get eratta it will hype tribal decks and that means people (one being me) will be phyrexian tribal with either morophon or pre-phyrexian yawgmoth
You should totally do this with each set and have different categories like best commander, best non-legendary, best land, etc... it would be totally awesome!
Not sure if it was mentioned in your Vega video, but Madness and Cascade actually work with its ability. Madness exiles the card from your hand during the discard action and Cascade from the top of your library so you cast it from exile/library
when a single standard set has so many commanders you can make a top 10 and bottom 10 list. Very happy the uncommon commanders actually showed up in the commander precons for their colors. A friend of mine might very well build the golden big. Prediction for golden toilet: Joffrey, for being too salty.
Toski! I am so going to build a janky squirrel tribal deck. But also thinking of taking apart my Edric deck and building a similar one which only benefits me. Perfect commander for that!
I saved a bunch of the blue black and green " snow " cards from Modern Horizons for just this occasion. Drafted a draft booster box with three friends the night after release. I only won 2 out of the 6 games I played so I ended up picking last but still got some decent cards and non foil reg. art Jorn was one of them. Also got non-foil reg. art Tergrid, Magda, Koma and In Search of greatness. Cheers and GL on the Jorn deck!!!
I just made my first commander deck with Valki god of lies // Tibalt Cosmic imposter. There’s a couple cards that I had seen here that definitely went into that deck like goading but he main theme is to play cards from my opponents deck for hilarity to ensue as well as some chaotic cards too fir the same reason
a bit surprised to not see orvar, though that just speaks to how many amazing commanders there are in this set. seems clear that wizards has decided to pander to commander players a bit more, imo the only negative of which is perhaps some power creep (unless something ends up warping standard like omnath did)
Me too. Orvar is clearly more powerful than pretty much every single one of these commanders, and not in a salty unfair way like mitch showed he didnt like in his golden toilet list
Question: With Cosima, do you choose what side is your commander as a mode or are both considered your commander with 2 separate damage trackers. If it's the second, that's pretty much partner on one card!
If anyone looking for menace effects in Taski, you may want to try out Bellowing Tanglewum. Also, this is kind of jank, you may want to put Sakiko in the 99 for him, two forms of advantage off of the same trigger.
Would Desecrated Tomb be effective with Koll, The Forgemaster loop as well? As well as infinite damage would you would have infinite Bats or do your creatures technically not go to the graveyard with his ability?
Great vid! I'm building Ranar spirit tribal. I've been waiting to build Azorious and the interactions with Primordial Mists and Estrid's Invocation seem fun. Cheers.
Mitch I built a partner deck I'd really like to see your take on. Eligeth and Tormod scry zombies with Scarab God hidden in the deck. It is a very fun theme.
I feel like people are sleeping on Orvar. Pretty busted in a casual way, if that makes sense. Not gonna pop off turn 2, but a huge value generator, enables a lot of sneaky tricks, lots of combos. I've built a really strong deck for $100 (excluding Orvar) and I'm buying Orvar after release once the price goes down.
@@chiflika9710 Yeah, after my comment I was doing more looking today and people have definitely not been sleeping on Orvar... I guess I looked too early. Now I see he's probably one of the most popular commanders from the set lol. But I'm not sure I agree that it's bad design. The card is very versatile and there's so many ways to build around it that are fun without being busted. And at it's best, I don't think it's THAT busted.
Koma: - Simic colored - Cares about a rare creature type that doesn't usually show up on small creatures, works best if you have as much of that type as possible, which is hard to pull off with serpents. Kaldheim Changelings: - Simic colored - Generally around cmc 3 - Are serpents
I've just built budget Toski EDH deck based around going wide and Voltron and the fact I can swing with a 10+ power flying squirrel welding 3 swords is hilarious.
Am i correct in assume that Malakir’s Rebirth only revives the target the first time it dies? It’s effect doesnt carry over to the resummoned creature that it brought back?
I think Aegar requires Giants/Wizards to deal damage to those creatures first, so if you can't just do a bunch of big boardwipes, you also have to find a way to have your creatures deal damage first.
toski is going into my Acornelia squirrel deck as one of the 99. sure she is an un-set commander, but as long as everyone agrees you arent bringing in anything broken you're usually fine
I built my Toski deck a little differently. Mine is basically a Voltron style, trying to deal 21 commander damage as quick as possible. I have a lot of equipments, aura, and enchantments to buff him up
@@Flazhness no you turn Magda into an artifact. You tap her and clock of omens to untap her. That makes a treasure. You tap Magda and the treasure to untap her and make a treasure. Repeat for infinite treasures.
I loved every card in that top 10... except Vega, the Watcher. All the other Commanders there did something fun and unique/powerful and with Vega you just get some card draw. I like card draw and a bird spirit is pretty cool, but I don’t even think it competes with the bottom of the list with Toski the FIRST legendary Squirrel that also has a draw mechanic. I still love the Commander Quarts and this is just my thoughts on the cards. Vega is good I just don’t think it was as good or as flavorful as some of the others in the top ten list.
My personal favorite is magda. Dwarves, vehicles and dragons? Hell yes! Glad she showed up in the list, but I do understand why she is not the golden pig.
Could you make a gold pig video for cards from kaldheim that are new golden pigs picks for another deck? The same way Blood tribute is a golden pig for Vito, Thorn of Dusk Rose.
He may be on the up side of powerful but he’s also crazy interesting!!! There’s no commander out there even close to what he does. Also, I think a couple commanders on this list are probably even more powerful than Orvar. Vega being one of them.
The problem with him is that he is one of those must kill commanders wen hit the field otherwise you'll lose and that's just very oppressive and not fun to play against
@@eyeh0 Clockspinning is 4 total mana while the Chrom Orrery taps for 5 so its infinite. Regardless of the legend rule, you can tap for 5 every time! Edit: Wait no yeah you're right. My bad. The only other combo piece i would think to have is powerstone shard or Peregrine drake/palinchron
blucrustt Coveted Jewel is another thing to consider, if you’re brave enough... Either way, I’m still crazy hyped for Orvar! Jank or not, there’s just so many different things to play around with him!
Vega is honestly a bit of a let down for me. I was making a custom commander about 1.5 years back that was attempting to gain benefit from exile. And it was Jeskai. I just see it and I keep thinking "I wish this was Jeskai. Or at least had partner."
I have a feeling you didn't put Tegrid here because of the salt she will induce but she also happens to he one of the strongest commanders in this set and definitely one of the most frustrating to play against
So Kardur is basically a reusable Disrupt Decorum, which is sitting at $13 rn, but Kardur himself is less than $1? I think ima just swap it out for Kardur
I am still incredibly upset that Kaldheim did not include a legendary golden pig... when Viking mythology totally has a legendary golden pig. We got the replicating ring and (sort of) Thor's hammer, but the Golden Pig was missing.
Me who built my first rakdos deck around Valki/Tibalt: Ummm... he is the strongest commander because he has a flip planeswalker that can get you multitudes of car advantage?
