Such a great piece of content on analyzing the deadlift. Matt’s analysis of how to build the deadlift without ruining your body or burning out is insightful and an important point for any strength athlete to understand. Thank you for this piece.
Watched an old video where Matt talked about his favorite Bench accessories and how he did 2 back movements and 2 Tricep movements after benching. Needless to say my bench went up from 245-295 in 3 months….
When I do the double band deadlift I use the power rack. I put the band pegs in the first and last hole in the bottom and run the bands over the bar. Works great and I love the band deadlift. Awesome content as usual Matt 🤛💪
Speaking of Rackpulls, deficits, and tempos, Vince Anello would do Rackpulls from knee height and something he called ankle deadlifts which were basically 6in deficit cuz the bar was basically on his feet and he'd do controlled eccentrics from the rack to the floor and explosively lift it
Amazing stuff man! All your vids are so well done and very helpful. I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. Have you ever used any of these custom meal plan tools? I got one from Next Level Diet to help me add some muscle and I actually like their plans. Was just wondering if you've heard of or tried any of them yourself. Thanks man!
Matt I just became aware of the accident you were in when you were a young kid. You are the definition of perseverance. My dad had scoliosis throughout his life and it got real bad later in his life but he was a bodybuilder who owned his own gym and he was able to achieve many great feats of strength even though he had disadvantages with a scoliosis. It's amazing what somebody can do when they decide.
I've also been throwing in trap bar deadlift because I can ego lift more and that tends to build my confidence in the regular dl because it's showing my brain "look, I can lift quite a bit of weight if I'm in a advantageous position". Basically trying to break mental platues
I’ve been really struggling with my deadlifts lately the part about the hip mobility makes so much sense with sumo! Time to add some more sumo work next block
I have not done pin pulls aka rack pulls in a long time and I’ve never done tempo ones so I decided to throw them in today because I have a variation of deadlifts and I added a twist I threw a couple bands on to give me some added difficulty and really work that tempo🤘🏼
I just watched the mark bell podcast, awesome! To me it didn't seem like Mark or the other gentlemen fully comprehended what your point was about how because of your training you could do what knees over toes guy did but he won't be able to do yours, I respect mark I am just saying it seemed like at first they didn't get what you meant, minimal training time manual #2 🙏
I've been pulling from deficits quite regularly over the last year and it's really done a number for my deadlift! I'm finally getting around to using sumo deadlifts (in my variations for this conjugate cycle) and am curious to see how I fair with them. Great information as always Matt!
I love all of these variations. I am definitely going to start implementing sumos. Also, I am going to try the band pull downs that mimic reverse hypers that I saw you doing. (I think it was on the gram.)
I got one thing to say about deficit deadlifts. I used to do them all the time in place of regular deadlifts and when i went back to regular deadlifts i was weaker. I think the issue was that i was allready very strong at the bottom of the movement but my weakpoint was mid range and lockout. So for me top end work helped me out the most. I guess for people that are not strong at the bottom deficits help
I guess this is not something you should do all the time. My thought process at the time was that i wanted to be even more explosive from the bottom to have more momentum to push past sticking points
Just started a conjugate type program after binge watching a load of your videos and running with a 531 type for years. Quick question on the Wenning warmups but do you do similar on the dynamic effort sessions or is it more just for the max effort ones?
Hey Matt I’m competing in 6 weeks I do banded deadlifts on Tuesday and regular heavy deadlifts on Saturday 3x5 banded with increase weight each week and then 5x5 for 2 weeks and then 4x4 3x3 2x2 and then just my opener for regular deadlifts any suggestions?
I've tried doing deficits with conventional but it always screws with my lower back(3 herniated discs split in the front). The only way I could see myself deficit is if I were to sumo deadlift. Would there still be carryover into my conventional if I did deficit work in sumo?
