damn just bought the whole setup. hopefully the american walnut works with my grey wood desk. Was between that and the all black one. Great video, thanks for all of the details!
Found your channel as I was contemplating the Balalo Desk Shelf and accessories, so perfect timing! Awesome video quality mate and fantastic in demonstrating it in action.
I know 🥲 Unfortunately both video projects I'm working on got delayed by 2 months... the wait is going to be worth it, I promise 😉 and I have so many ideas for the future!
I am looking into this shelf since I was somewhat disappointed in the grovemade one. Surface looked rough and not fully finished with a protective coat, damages extremely easy. Also the legs are not very stable. I like the balolo because I can stack my amp/dac under it, this is why I may switch over.
I was also disappointed about the Grovemade desk shelf legs, they just snap to the shelf without screws and if you move it from side to side they move. Also I don't really like the aluminium shelf in the middle. What I really liked about it was the main walnut board, I don't know which one you have, but the solid walnut looks beautiful. But yeah, you need to be careful not to damage it. I think that Balolo is a wiser choice.
Awesome space and video overview. It looks like some of the Grovemade products are compatible with the Balolo desk shelf - particularly the desk tray. I'm trying to decide between the Grovemade Solid Walnut and Balolo American Walnut desk shelf, and it looks like the Balolo is more modular and has more accessory attachments than the Grovemade. Do you think you'll stick with the Balolo over the Grovemade?
Hey Dennis! Thanks for the comment. I wouldn't say that the Grovemade tray is compatible with the setup cockpit tray. The base of the former is covered in cork and the surface of the latter is covered in felt. When I tried placing the Grovemade tray on top of the Setup Cockpit tray, the cork left a lot of "crumbs" or cork dust. To be honest, it's a very difficult decision choosing between the two. I think that the Grovemade one looks better, as the solid walnut is much more expensive but I love the darker tone of it, and the surface is smoother. The Setup Cockpit, on the other hand, is sturdier, feels solid, and is much more practical. The advantage of the Balolo's desk shelf is that if they release new modular accessories in the future, you can buy them without having to buy a new shelf. I'll stick to the Setup Cockpit for now for practicality since I really like using the holder to place my iPad. Have a nice day 🙋♂
@@matdilisio Thanks! Sorry - just to clarify - is the small silver tray you're sliding under the shelf at 4:08 the Grovemade Desk Tray? Also wasn't expecting to love the dark-colored walls as much as I did. I'm preparing to upgrade my desk area and am now thinking of going the dark charcoal/black-colored wall route. Have a good one!
I was looking at Grovemade & Balolo and came to your channel. Super informative but i still can’t decide between Grovemade and Balolo. The new Grovemade middle aluminium tray is what’s stopping me as I’m planning on storing my keyboard, Caldigit dock and many more under the shelf. What do you recommend?
@@matdilisio more so because of the height. It seems like i won’t be able to fit a Cladigit TS4 dock neither on top nor bottom. Also mechanical keyboards like Mode won’t fit on the bottom tray i guess - Grovemade. Other than that, I love the asethetics of both and wanted to ask for a professional opinion
I personally love the walnut because it's more natural and it doesn't blend with the black walls behind. But I must admit that the black one is also super nice 😅
I am 90% determined for Balolo Large Cockpit. The only thing I am not sure is using combination of Smart Accessory Holder for Setup Cockpit with Stream Deck Plus. I would prefer using Stream Deck Plus on holder (not on desk). Does anyone have experiences with combination mentioned above?
haha I have 6 desk shelves that were sent for review, I would like to use them all but I don't have 6 setups 😅 so I'm using some as plant support yes 👌
really? a desk shelf for 500€ and more? so this desk combo without any device will cost about 1000 to 1500€. you really must be kidding, right? i can hear kids bothering their parents for that great housung gor their 500bucks laptop. oh lord
That's not true 😅 The setup cockpit costs 200€ and if you decide to buy the 2 large trays, one holder and one laptop dock which should cover all your needs the price would be around 450€. Obviously if you keep adding stuff to the cart it'll be more expensive lol but 1000 or 1500€... where did you get that price from?
@@matdilisio Does the table top cost nothing? Or are the height-adjustable table legs free? So if you spend 450€ for a desk shelf, you don't put it on a 20€ IKEA table. Correct?
@@guenstigkochen I thought we were talking about the desk shelf, which the videos is about. I see nothing wrong in spending 1500-2000€ for a great desk like mine. Of course you could spend less, but as a Professional in my business I care about quality.
I'm not sure what you're complaining about. If you want cheaper options, thousands of those exist. You could probably build this exact same setup with cheaper components if you really wanted. This setup just happens to have more higher quality items, but you don't need to go that route
