I am a huge fan of digital comics and use all the tools that you spoke about in this video. It’s so good to see a content creator giving props to digital comics rather than bashing it like many do. Digital and print comics can go hand in hand…
While I'm in the hobby for the print comics, I really found this video interesting and informative. Thanks for taking them time to do that research and share your experiences.
I'm a big fan of Comixology Unlimited. It's helped me a lot in building my physical collection, because I got to read the first couple of trades of a longer series, and figure out whether I want to invest in an omnibus or deluxe hardcovers, or if I'm just happy with the trades/not buying. I also like using it to read one-and-done, miniseries and more obscure books that are either less known, or less talked about, and which I wouldn't normally blind buy in physical format.
I have always said I'm a comic reader, not collector, so I love the digital apps. I have a nice library on Comixology & on my Kindle App. I have Marvel Unlimited, but I really don't use it, which is one reason why I don't have the DC app. Once I start using the Marvel app, I will add the DC infinite. I am a physical media guy. I have been buying more trades and hardcovers, but when I'm on the subway I can read a book on the subway on my tablet which I like.
Thank you for making this video. I’ve been wanting to get into comics but don’t have the money yet to splurge on physical issues. One day I’ll get there after I finish university. In the meantime, I’ll stick to digital. Again, thank you! I’ll be saving this video to my favorites to watch later again.
Yo BJ. Honorable mention to SHONEN JUMP VAULT App (only $1.99 a month) too since as much as I want every manga enthusiast to also explore western comics. The value itself is too generous and assuming you may get into Manga in the future along with anyone else who didnt know SJV is a thing. Heres to many more years of Comics Reading.
@@JirehGJackson You welcome buddy! Don't know if you are aware of it but VIZ MANGA APP is their companion to the SJ App & it's still $1.99! If you sub to both it still be only $4.99 each month. The VIZ MANGA APP has the same UI as the SJ App but more focused on Seinens but not as many chapters or titles but still offers a lot of content.
Great video. I am a lifelong physical collector, but as I find myself traveling Europe and Asia more, I want to see if it is worth reading the new stuff (mostly Marvel) via digital on my Samsung tablet.
I just read the spawn comic I bought. Then I saw that there was a free preview on comixology. What a waste of money. I think I'm going to read more digital comics. They even have free previews . Like 6 free pages. And I don't have more stuff as a result of reading comics. Maybe that's the future since streaming and digital books are doing well. That would open up possibilities for indie creators since they could create in colour as much as they want without having the print or shipping costs. They wouldn't even need to put the books in stores. They'd all be on the same platform alongside the big 3
A couple years ago I read a digital comic that was interactive. I'm not sure if that's the correct word to use. I believe it was on the Marvel unlimited app. Does anybody know what that is?
I do not have very good vision. I currently use my phone and use the zoom in option while holding it very close to my face. Do you have any videos that show how the comics appear in the iPad itself? I'm thinking about getting an iPad in order to have larger text/read easier. Thank you!
Question for people from America, how can I download the DC app if I'm in Europe, will the app be available for us soon and how to buy DC comics, ebay, amazon or something else? Thank you
How far back. In time can you go with these services. Also how can Amazon own comixology and have such a horrible product like the Amazon fire tablet .I have a iPad so it’s not a big complaint
So I'm in Australia going overseas and want to read on the go. I have a lot of Omnibuses at home from Marvel? How do I claim the digital version? Thanks a bunch
this video was the first pop up when search google Marvel Unlimited vs Dc UNiverse. Helpful, I have dcUi and am considering marvel unlimited. Probably won't sub, I used to sub to lots of comic channels but like many genres theres so many and I eventually just moved down to ComicPop but this video was very helpful. Weird that I grew up with marvel but tend to read DC now. I just don't know if Marvel Unlimited is worth it. (Not gonna lie dude loving my comment got me to hit the sub button 😆 hope it helps with algorithm. Peace)
Im trying to find an app that can read my digitally scanned comics without having to pay a service. Do you know if there anything available for people who have their own collection and want to read in app off-line?
Would google play books, I’ve bought two books on there im but I’m not sure to continue on there or not depending on if it’s good or not. Is it a good option?
How do you feel about collecting Ultra Rare variants digital form as on the VeVe platform? Evolution of collecting-another vertical for that comic to spark innovation?
I’m confused can’t find the comixology app or that standalone marvel app to buy comics all I can see is marvel unlimited I want to build a collection kindle doesn’t let me purchase most comics and instead wants me to subscribe is there a app where I can just buy any comic without having to subscribe?
Dear BJ, thank you for your video. Unfortunately this one is no longer of any use to me. You are really a lucky person, as you probably live in the USA or UK. I live in Germany and have used COMIXOLIGY for a long time and enthusiastically. But for comic lovers living in Germany, the lousy AMAZON ruined COMIXOLOGY some time ago!!! I am extremely pissed off.
It really just depends on what publishers you like. Technically, ComiXology unlimited is the most diverse and probably the best choice if you can only pick one. If you’re a DC fan, DC Infinite is a no brainer. Same for Marvel.
I think you’re talking about Guided View. Pretty much every app I covered (besides Scribe) has this function. You just double tap the panel and it shows up full screen. Super helpful for avoiding spoilers and immersing you even more.
So when I buy from these apps I get to keep wht I buy right? like even if the site goes down in 20yrs? Or is it a Fortnite situation where if the servers go down so doesn't the stuff u paid for?
Most of these services are subscriptions, so you're technically not buying anything. Just paying for access. So if the servers go down, so does your access. The exception to this is Comixology. There's actually an option to download a pdf version of all your Comixology purchases in Amazon.
Hoopla isn't an honorable mention, Hoopla is the GOAT for digital comics. Marvel, DC, indies, music, movies, and TV shows? All for Free.99? Get out of here Scribd, you can't step to this.
I just checked with my library and they offer Hoopla. Never heard of it before this video. Thanks for the recommendation, downloading this as soon as I get off work today!
most of these apps are subscription based, so you're not buying individual issues. But with Comixology, there's actually an option to download pdfs of anything you purchase inside Amazon's website.
does anyone know any loopholes for getting a subscription to any of these providers in Europe? I'd like to read Batman and unfortunately both DC universe and Comixology tell me the service is unavailable in my country...seems you have to be a US customer to subscribe?? Any help appreciated! 😃
