What a great video! I wish I had seen it a few months ago before I started flying my drone. What I want to know is whether there is a way to get the elevation to show on the videos you take with the drone? That's something I'd like to see while watching my videos.

I use a custom layout. Left stick does foward, back and strafing. Right stick does elevation and turning. I find this a lot easier for my brain to comprehend as it's not too disimlilar from the controls in games.

Does that mean still no controller settings to adjust expo, rates, gimbal speed. Seems like it would be impossible to get smooth footage without using a smart mode. Is tripod enough? Personally I loved a slow gimbal pitch with braking for silky footage. How are you handling that Billy, seem like big features are missing.

Billy, thx. Can you go over the other setting s on the camera tab/menu while in flight too? Example, while in quickshots... You can change between 1080HD, 2.7k, and 4k. I am sure there are more setting s while in flight for each item like camera, video, hypelapse etc.

OK the Manual exposure versus Automatic exposure is clear. I cannot however work out what is happening when I press the AE Lock. I can still select between Auto and Manual and the auto is still changing the exposure - Please can you explain what the lock does? Thanks. Great video for a newbie by the way.

Do you think its worth about 400 USD more from the Mavic Mini? Would be an awesome addon video to a comparison of the Air 2 vs Mini! Lastly, just wondering, if the Mavic Mini(without registering) would have any advantages in places you can fly as compared to where you cannot fly other Mavic drones above 250 grams. Great video Billy...there is one more screen in the camera section that shows video settings (not photos) that shows up when. The app is in video mode. I want to know what file type to use for videos...H264 or 265??

Billy, I really like your videos. I'm a new drone operator and I have gotten invaluable info from this video in particular.. I do have a question. In this video and all the others I've watch everyone mentioned the feature in the bottom center of the screen. It looks like a half circle with a small triangle icon that moves around according to the position of the drone to the controller. I think you referred to is as the orientation display. It always on the videos I watch but hit doesn't display on my and I cannot figure out where to turn it on. Could you tell me how to get this function to display? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for this helpful tutorial. Pity though you're not talking about video settings. I've been looking at several youtubers who are talking about choosing D-cinelike. The problem I seem to be having is I don't have the option in the Flyapp to choose between Normal and D-cinelike, D-cinelike just isn't there for some reason. Do you happen to know why? Something I've done wrong or overlooked in the settings?

Just got my MA2 yesterday and i had cached video turned on and i did see a lack on my iPhone X. Ill be turning that off, thanks for the tip. I was thinking if i'm capturing the video and was to lose the drone the video would be able to help me find it better if the battery dies before im able to locate it with FIND MY DRONE. On further thought i dont plan on ever losing LOS with the drone but you never know if your over woods or in a rough terrain.

Hey Billy, i am sure my mavic air 2 is too fast in tripod mode. Do you agree that the drone does not go at a crawl speed in that mode. I find it harder to capture cinematic shots. Do you know of a setting that brings the speed down, or will it be a firmware update issue. I noticed this on my first flight out the box, and the issue remains to this day. Thanks.

Good walk thru of the Fly app. I was disappointed that they Fly app does not have stick trimming/tweaking like in GO 4, but after using the MA2 in tripod mode it does a good enough job slowing down the drone/stick movements to make "cinematic" turns. But with that said I might want to go forward fast in sport mode but turn slowly so I do miss that feature, but not a deal breaker. Not a fan of not being able to set a new home point until after the drone is in flight and the return to take off location vs return to current remote location options.

I have the Mavic Air 2 and sometimes get a red icon at middle bottom of my screen, (remote to drone orientation). It goes away pretty quickly and I have not been able to read it. I am wondering if it has to do with loss of signal. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

I can’t see the battery icon most of the time. Just the bit about tapping on that to get more info was great. Thanks. ETA: knowing that the native aspect ratio of the sensor is 4:3 is important.

Hi Billy, I've recently been having problems with the fly app and air2, motorola G10 phone. I tried 1.4.8 beta and the screen was freezing randomly. The drone will continue to record and behave normally but the app stops working. I've rolled back to 1.4.4 (1072-official) and the problem has gone. What version of the fly app do you find works best for you with the Air2 ? Cheers, Mick.

The phone charging option is no longer available for me. I did see it when I got my air 2 in January. Maybe it was an update? Do you still have that option?

I'm new to all this and waiting on my Mavic Air 2 to arrive. Really like your videos, however, one suggestion would be to slow down just a little in your talking. Sounds like you're trying to get through this as quick as you can so sometimes trying to follow you can be "tricky" :-)

Very usefull tutorial, but you have missed some details. In the camera menu there are different settings depending the actual shooting mode. The setting possibilities totally different in case of hyperlapse ( 1080p or 8k), panoramic ( save original photos or not, which format), or purely the normal video shooting modes ( codec settings h264, or h265?) etc... You have introduced only the camera menu, which is available in still photo mode. The phylosophy of the fly app is different from the go4 app. The fly app seems more simple because of the less individual menu items ,and on the top of it only the relevant setting visible in the actual menu.

Something I haven’t been able to determine is this.... should I have my phone wi-fi and Bluetooth ON or OFF when flying?

Billy there are some differences in what can be set when you run the Fly app on android and you missed the "Video" section under "Camera". Other than my comments below a very informative and helpful, especially tapping the on screen status to bring up altitude settings and remaining storage on SD card. Control Section Settings For Android there is no "Phone Charging" under "Remote Controller in "Control" and "Toggle Map/Live View is NOT included in the list of options for "Button Customization", only "Recenter Gimbal" and "Auxillary LED". Camera Section Settings The first section under "Camera" is determined by which mode the camera is in. Since you were in "Photo" mode the settings for "Photo" were showing in your video. If you had been in "Video" mode and brought "Camera" settings up "Video" and it's settings will show instead of "Photo". For "Video" your options are "Format" (MP4, MOV), "Color" (Normal, there is no other option), "Coding Format" (H.264, H.265), and "Video Subtitles" (On/OFF). Under "Cache When Recording" for android you have the option as to how big you want the cache to be (2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, AUTO)

Very good Billy. I was curious about the details of the Fly app. I’m still undecided about the drone. Waiting for it to be compatible with the smart controller which should happen soon. The app seems very limited in terms of gimbal sensitivity, and control stick sensitivity. Those could be dealbreakers for me.

Billy, I have looked on google app store and do not see this fly app. Did you use the app on the dji mavic air 2 download page or am I missing something?

Thanks for the video. One thing they need to get right. I get the new drone watch some videos and I am thinking about all the settings, get it turned on and going through settings to realize I have a warning that the gimbal lock is still on! This has happened to me with every drone like many others. It should not turn on with the lock in place or it shut down immediately with a warning. I flew one of my drones line of sight and realized the lock was on the whole time. After that I got camera resets while flying so it must damage it.

Billy: Great job as usual. I can't find the Gimbal settings that I used in the DJI go 4 app to set my pitch speed and pitch smoothness. I can't locate the advanced gimbal settings option. I just received my MA 2 2 days ago, and yesterday spent firmware updates, RC battery charging including the 3 batteries. I also enjoyed your range test video a few days ago. This drone is very responsive to the joy sticks. Interesting that the images and videos don't have to be synched on the My flights feature located on the Fly App. In the MA1 Go4 App, I had to synch them and then use the HD synch app to retrieve in Air Data. . The phone images makes the air Data difficult to see. This Fly App seems a lot less complex compared to the DJI Go 4, but hopefully, some of the options were not deleted. Best wishes

Had a gimbal issue today, but it seemed to clear after I pressed RTH! Also the white dot with semi-circle and pointer at the bottom middle of my screen has disappeared without me doing anything.

I'm probably setting myself up for failure for whenever I get into fpv drones, but I'm flying on mode 3. It seems the most natural since I play some fpv shooter games on a playstation. The left stick on both are identical movements.

Hi Billy, great video. I've been flying now for years, more use to the GO 4 app the new DJI Fly app is really timed down, I have the mini and hopefully the Mavic Air 2 is coming next week. You never can spend to much time going over the apps and that goes for all drone and camera apps, sometime things get confusing and mixed up. Like the Skydio app vs say the Insta360 r and then the one x app. I did pick up a bit of tips on the Fly app I did not realize. Great Video as always.....

I'm a little bummed that there's no option to adjust the gimbal pitch speed. Maybe in a future version of DJI Fly?

With emergency prop stop, if the drone is free falling, can it be re-engaged mid fall?

Just to answer your comment, with my current Yuneec drones and soon to be Mavic Air 2, I use the mode settings reversed for the stick controls because I only have a left arm. My wife also prefers this setting because she is left handed and she does more control movements forward/backwards/left/right, so she prefers it to be on her dominant hand side.

I have an question, coulnd't find it online. My 1st drone the mavic pro 2. In the quickshots (in for example "circle") I was able to change the radius.hight, gimball and altitude. Do the air 2 or the mini 2 have the same options?

I bought the mavic air 2 and I can't get more than 500 metres out without it getting a weak signal and losing connection to the remote. Is this typical of being in a residential area? I don't want to exchange it only for the new one to be the same...

Hi there.. My Mavic Air 2 won't go over 40km/hr (25mph), even when in sports mode. It doesn't matter whether I'm going with or against the wind... 40kmh/25Mph is the fastest I've got it to go in sports mode. It has the latest firmware. Any idea what it could be? Would changing gimbal settings affect the flight speed at all? I'm clueless on this one.
