I remember during Covid I wanted to get into DBZ badly so I bought Kakarot and started watching the show and playing the game after each saga ended. Easily the funnest way I ever got into anything.

Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure is one of the most underrated. Kind of amazing they even managed to turn original DB into a game at all and have it be that well made.

I just started kakarot and I absolutely love it, the blend of fighting and the open world but it feels so much like you are just watching some remastered form of the show, with the narration and everything it just feels like you are actually in the world

I think supersonic warriors should be included along with DB Advanced adventure. Supersonic warriors may be a very short game but it had one of THE BEST fighting systems that did not feel like something a GBA could be capable of. DB Advanced Adventure was also an amazing side-scrolling beat-em up that felt very refreshing and even holds up today (Well... that's subjective).

Definitely agree with this list, but I'd like to give a big shout out to Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure too. That game is genuinely a lot of fun and it's great to see a solid action game from the original series.

I'm glad you included Kakarot on this list. I remember when the game came out and people were trashing on it for not being a fighting game. Dragon Ball fans have this weird thing going on where if a DB game isn't a fighting game, it's dead on arrival, so it's great to see some love for the non-fighting games.

I really love xenoverse 2 is getting again. Yes its sad we dont have a part3 yet or wont get one. But the fact this single dbz game is still getting supported is amazing on its own.

Tenkaichi 2 was my favorite! The transitioning between melee combos, Kai blast and transformations was so smooth!!

the only game this list is missing is Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure. the way they approached 1-on-1 fights was unique to DB games and it's so much fun. and the main beat-em-up mechanics are so satisfying, especially when chaining combos. one of my favourite things to do while playing as Krillin, is to see how many hits I can accumulate while the enemy is in the air.

Buus Fury and Legacy of Goku 2 are amazing for DBZ fans. Just being in the world - solid story telling, great anime based music, map, world, fun leveling with our favourite characters, good combat, and great little side missions

Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure, Revenge of King Piccolo and Origins 1 & 2 totally deserved to be in this list.

You know what would be cool is the Dragon Ball Z game when you start out as a kid and you work your way up to fly and shoot beams and stuff

As someone else said: this list is pretty much perfect but it's definitely missing ADVANCE ADVENTURE for me. Man, what a great game that one was. I already wanna replay it.

That's a pretty comprehensive list. If I were to add a couple more games to it, I'd probably pick Dragon Ball Fusions and SDBH World Mission. Fusions is pretty much Dragon Ball's answer to Pokemon, where you collect fighters from across a giant mish-mashed world and fight in 5v5 Grandia-style battles. World Mission on the other hand is a port of the Japanese arcade 7v7 card battler SDBH, with added features like custom card and mission creators, as well as it's own full original story. Both games also have huge rosters, with Fusions having over 1000 collectable characters, and World Mission having over 1300 cards.

I thank my lord and my parents when they gave me Legacy of Goku II as a Christmass present when I had 11 or 12 back in 2007 or 2008. No wonder why I enjoyed that game so much as a kid. Even the filler stuff didn't feel boring or tedious. Also, the mechanic of using a scouter so you can register every NPC and enemy in the game with their data was brillant.

I really miss the during battle transformations and reverts that happened in Budokai 3. I don't like when the games let you start off already in a super form.

The fishing is a nice reference to the first Dragon Ball episode where Goku catches a big fish with his tail.

Unpopular opinion: Sparking Zero might be top 5 db games

DB Raging Blast 2 is probably my favorite because it was so fun to play. There wasn't a story mode but there were unique character interactions in the different matches since it was made with the fans in mind. The combat is some of the best and it was amazing to look at and play. Seriously, it was awesome.

Dragon Ball Fusions for the 3DS is a big favorite of mine. An RPG where you collect characters from all over the series up until the Universe 6 saga from Super. (An update added some Future Trunks arc characters, but they're just given to you for free) and as the title implies, you can fuse a lot of characters and get all kinds of results. The battles are 5v5 with a big focus on positioning and knocking your opponents into each other. It's really fun. Unfortunately it kinda flew under the radar, probably because it was a 2017 3DS release, but I highly recommend everyone reading this to give it a look.

Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 3 are the absolute GOAT of Dragon Ball games !

Budokai doesn't need a combo input for energy blasts, only the first one. Literally as you were saying it, forward E was shown, which since Budokai 2 and onwards had the shortcut way of doing it with the combo being optional :/

Man, DBZ kakarot, legit gives me goosebumps every time I play it. Brings back every bit of nostalgia, excitement and enthusiasm that I got as a kid watching Dragon Ball Z anime. It's not only the best DBZ game ever made so far, but arguably the greatest Anime game of all time so far. ❤

Imagine a Kakarot-style game based on ALL of Dragon Ball, and not just Z.

Awesome list. My favorite game is Tenkaichi 3, still have it on my PS2 and I’m so stoked for the new Tenkaichi game, I always dreamed they would make another one and now I can’t believe it’s actually happening.

Budokai tenkaichi 3 is, in my opinion, not only the greatest dragon ball fighting game but one of the best fighting games of all time

The only thing I would change is to include Infinite World because for me the main things Budokai 3 does better are beam clashes and a more fair difficulty (though I enjoyed Infinite Worlds difficulty). But I enjoy the customization of Infinite World significantly more and it was one of the few games to have Base Form GT Vegeta.

I'd included Legendary Super Warriors for the GBC, amazing game

One thing I want to say about the fishing minigame for anyone who doesn't know, that's a reference one of the very first moments in Dragon Ball.

You forgot Dragonball Raging Blast 2! One of the most underated DBZ games as it came out at the lowest point dragonball's history, BUT still worth looking into at least.

15:33 hey, if you need an easy combo to do instead of an autocombo, just do light > light > medium > medium > heavy, super dash, light > light > jump > light > light > light. does more damage than a regular autocombo and it takes you farther than one too

I gotta give a shout out to Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure. For being a game based on OG Dragon Ball, the game is just utterly fantastic to play. Not only does it have incredibly good looking graphics and sprites for its time, it also has a pretty fluid feeling combat system as well. While it can be just a bit repetitive, its simple, easy to understand and fun to experience. And the story is just a blast to play through as well! Levels are your standard platforms that are done quite well, alongside unique boss fights as well with even a few having unique mechanics to make them a bit more challenging. Hell, there are even some minigames you can play as well! Heck, you could even play agaisnt another person who has the game if you had a cable to connect both games. Unfortunately, the roster is very small, so that is a small downside, but a very minor one to me. Overall, for one of the only OG DB games on the GBA to my knowledge, its worth playing and i think would DEFINITELY be deserving to be one of the best Dragon Ball games.

As someone who grew up playing emulated ROMs of Japanese Dragon Ball z games because we didn't have anything here in the west at that time, Kakarot has reached a pinnacle in my heart. The fact that they're most recent DLC as of this post was the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai really made that game the top of my list of one of my favorite games of all time.

i know you showed clips, but the fact that you didnt mention the outstanding visuals both in and out of cutscenes in kakarot is a crime. i mean seriously, some of the like "high quality" versions of cutscenes, in key moments like goku first turning ssj, gohan going ssj2 against cell, and even so many other less major scenes are just AMAZING

I knew it wasn't gonna happen but I was hoping Budokai 2 would've gotten at least a brief mention for all the cool what-if content and unique story mode.

DBZ Hyper Dimension on Super Famicom was so good. It just never came out in the west so most of us only got exposure to it via emulators back in the day. It's kinda cool how most of the best Dragon Ball games are very recent though. We're truly spoiled for great DB games in recent years.

Xenoverse 2 is my absolute favorite of the Dragon Ball games ever made, for the reasons you mentioned AND for many, many others. i'm gonna start off with saying that I bought Xenoverse 1 right around its release (it came in late on my end), and I bought it to satiate the one desire I had as a Dragon Ball fan: create custom characters and go on your own adventure. Looking back, it was janky, slow paced, and locked to 30 FPS, making the game feel more clunky than it should have been. But, I played the hell out of it anyway and have fond memories of having Xenoverse sessions with my friends. Even platinumed it on my PS3. And then... Xenoverse 2 came. Xenoverse 2, from day one, fixed and expanded upon EVERYTHING that Xenoverse 1 did. Better and faster combat (which felt so much more skill based while still holding onto the RPG roots), a much more expansive roster, a robust hub world that feels good to just explore, better character customization, lovable characters both playable and supporting, and was so content rich that it was hard to ever get tired of. Further DLCs expanded upon that even more, with unlock keys to customize ANY roster character (originally, it was for mentors only, but now it applies to everyone), two and a half more story campaigns to play in (DLC chapters, Xeno 1 Legacy story, and the "Time Breaking with Fu" story that has multiple paths and scenarios that change the situation drastically, with a secret boss fight against a juiced up UI Goku). It's just so fun to sit down, pick out your favorite Dragon Ball OC that you made (one of eight, that are also selectable during fights, raids, and parallel quests as if they were part of the roster), and either go on a single player romp through any one of the modes and activities, or party up and kick some ass in the PQs or test your metal against each other. And, that's STILL not everything! Further, that's not even getting into the lore the game details and sometimes expands upon through NPCs, quests, item descriptions, and story implications. It's just everything I LOVE about Dragon Ball, ever since I was a little crawling nightmare. Xenoverse 2, while not an excellent fighting game like Budokai 3 or FighterZ, is still a very robust and incredibly fun beat-em-up MMO-lite RPG that fulfills a Dragon Ball fan's itch beyond just re-playing the story as the cast. Out of all the games in my collection, it is my 6th favorite game out or my favorite 40.

i still remember as a kid reading a game magazine in Kmart(now closed big store) the section showing dragonball budokai 1 being released soon and I was so excited.

Dragon ball z supersonic warriors 2 was a really great game. It should be on the list since literally took what was good in the first game and improved it. This game had incredible bossfights and overall good gameplay and fighting. The transformations and etc...

Attack of the Saiyans on NDS not being here is a crime. It deserved it more than LoG2.

Regarding Xenoverse2... They deleted my savegame for whatever reason.. I spent 500 hours on it.. and suddenly the game tells me, savegame is corrupted.. There's nothing I could do, i was forced the start from zero again.. Suffice it to say, i immediately uninstalled the game.. I cant be bothered to grind all over again to unlock everything. That's the biggest issue with Xenoverse 2.. at any given moment your savegame can get corrupted for whatever reason.. Apparernly if you install the game on another hardrive , or if you try out a mod then remove the mod through fresh reinstall, all these things can completely corrupt your savegame. The fact that it's so incredibly sensitive and that you cant even back up your saves is a huge problem.

Dragonball Fusions for the 3ds. A really fun turn based rpg for a dbz title. It even has a unique storyline

One game that I really enjoy is Dragonball Fusions on the 3DS, it's a RPG where.. you can fuse many characters together (mainly your CAC with.. anyone) but many fusions are just some of the "what-ifs" from years ago (ie Prillin aka Piccilo/Krillin) or new ones that make sense (ie Natz is Nappa/Raditz) and it's fun since it's kinda 5 v 5 fights at times with a lot less of the tradition fighting game schtick that most games have had, it's a breath of fresh air imo

Fighterz & Xenoverse 2 having the LEGS they have....just think about how huge the franchise is...and those 2 Games have been played for YEARS now...with Updates over the same time period... It makes me smile.

Personally I'd add Attack of the Saiyans for the DS. It was a really great turn based RPG in the vein of the older Final Fantasy games, but it was really well executed, it looked really good because of the great spritework, and things like tag team special moves and such were awesome. It's a real shame it only did the Saiyan Saga and never got a sequel, I think the Frieza or Cell Saga in this style would have been amazing.

I can’t be the only one who turned off the in game music in Kakarot and used Bruce Faulconers catalogue instead. Ive got the playlist set perfectly for the scenes and characters. Even got the wholesome filler episode music for when I’m just flying around😭 Anyone else out there??

Legacy of Goku II and Buu's Fury are some of my favourite games of all time, even outside of Dragon Ball. The visuals are fantastic and it was so much fun to explore the worlds.

Yeah I knew I wasn’t burnt. No budokai 3 wasn’t the last game to use the budokai title. Budokai 3 (the end to the PS2 era; was the last game released in 2004), however Shin Budokai for the PSP came out in 2006, as well as Shin Budokai in 2007. Making the PSP games the last 2 to the Budokai series but not correspondent to the storyline of the PS2 games. That’s when tenkaichi began. And sparking zero is coming out soon. Hope your are all as nostalgically excited as I am.

Dragon Ball Budakai Tenkaiichi 3 & Raging Blast 2 are my all time favorite games. My brothers and our cousins had tons of fun playing them together and good memories

One of the things I loved about Budokai 3 was the cell-shaded characters and ki auras... it felt like they finally 'got it right' in a video game.

Attack of the Saiyans is a fantastic RPG let alone a fantastic DBZ game. It needs a sequel.

DBZ Shin Budokai: Another Road subverted my expectations and blew me away.

for me, Kakarot is probably the best singleplayer experience anyone can have in a DragonBall game, specialy the DLCs and mods, those make a huge difference gameplay wise and we are still getting DLCs. As a fighting game FighterZ is the best one imo in DB games, really snappy, quick combos and alot of counter attacks. My favorite tho, Tenkaichi 3, man that game has it all, love the combat. I'm really excited for Tenkaichi 4, if they do the exact same thing but with an updated roster and better graphics, i'm sold

my little brother used to force me to watch dbz. and i did not wanted to watch cuz it was tooo long . when this game came out my brother again recommended me to play the game after playing the game i immediately became fan of dbz and watched all of the anime in 3 weeks. cant believe all this happened 4 years ago

the exploration and customisation gameplay of legacy of goku 2 was reaallllllll next level - I really wanted more of that from kakarot, also the more complex and deep gameplay systems from tenkaichi 3 I'm still hoping for these great combinations, I secretly hope that sparking zero is a testing kit for what could be the ultimate dbz/s/gt game - the customisation of xenoverse 2 and legacy of goku 2, the great exploration gameplay/different characters from kakarot and legacy of goku 2, and then the deep combat of tenkaichi 3 sparking zero looks like it's gonna be great which is amazing... there's been a lot of other games and a lot of improvements made over the years, I dream of a game that would integrate all of these improvements

Great picks overall but my only complaint is the criminal disclusion of Raging Blast 2, underrated masterpiece right there

Kakarot was so fun. I hope we get a dragon ball original prequel. The fast movement is fun, but also a curse for exploration. Imagine running around on foot most of the time as kid Goku. It would be incredible! Otherwise, it was the first and only game I finished all achievements for. Great list. I've never play xenoverse, but it looks like I should give it a go. I can't believe there's still DLC coming for it. I was shocked to see superhero content in there.
