I just realized that my sunscreen from "Supergoop" has all the ingredient list that you should avoid. Every single one of them!!! That's why maybe I have been breaking out more than usual!!! Dang it!
Specially that almost all the stuff she reviews or introduce are high end. Need more affordable stuff that are effective enough. Don’t need to be that amazing, just respectable.
The whole world and his wife have reviewed all of the products by The Ordinary. Nadine Baggot, Caroline Hirons .... all the skincare experts. Search RU-vid and there are dozens and dozens of them
Hi Everyone! Reading the comments, I’m realizing a lot of people think I’m only recommending the products in this video. I was instead trying to give you an idea of the types of products I look for at the drugstore and show examples. Hopefully that helps!
Do you have any recommendations for congested skin? Like I’ve been experiencing whiteheads all over the outer part of my face (forehead to jawline) and even after facial treatments, the whiteheads come back after two weeks or so, so I guess it’s my skincare? I’ve tried many products recommended so I’m quite lost as to which product is causing me these whiteheads
TIP: when using a cleanser with an active ingredient (like salysilic acid) you want to massage it into the skin for at least one minute so that the active ingredient can do it's job.
@@qxlauban probably yes, because I imagine the percentage is pretty low as is typical in drugstore cleansers, I'm not a professional though so make sure to listen to your skin.
@@natalie-gb2jv Not all of Neutrogena's products are fragranced and the Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel for Extra Dry skin is fragrance free and a great drugstore hyaluronic acid for example.
@@NeithHecateAddams It depends what kind of fragrance it is doe. For an example, if the natural Ingredient contains rose pedal in it and it has a smell of it it's a good fragrance
i recommend you guys NOT use the grapefruit cleanser, do a patch test first, that stuff broke out and irritated the hell out of my skin. edit: also i changed up my cleanser recently which i shouldn’t have done, and started using the Clean and Clear Lemon Zesty Cleanser. my skin started doing pretty good for the first few days, but then my skin started breaking out and getting super dry. i’ve been drinking plenty of water and my diet is the exact same, so i know it doesn’t have to do with me. if you have extremely dry skin and want no dry patches i suggest the Nutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser, Ponds Dry Skin Cream in the blue cap tub, and Witch Hazel after all that! such life savers!!!
This why people should be careful to NOT automatically go out and buy products just because a "beauty guru" suggests it! They are not dermatologists or doctors of any kind! Otherwise, they would say test it first! Dont be sheep people!.
*CeraVe Healing Ointment over Aquaphor! It has the Eczema Organization stamp of approval.* I use it for everything from wind-burned cheeks to chapped lips to dry cuticles. 😊
I use Simple wipes too.. I have veeery sensitive skin and eyes too and those wipes is the one I react least on. I reccomand (sorry if I spelled that wrong, I'm Norwegian) Avène (she mentioed them in the video for 2 seconds..) I used them for 9 years and they are the best for sensitive skin and eyes.
You lost me at the neutrogena cleanser. That cleanser really dried out my skin. I have an incredibly oily skin but that cleanser dried my skin out so much I could feel the tightness of my skin immediately after use. I honestly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It is way too strong in my opinion.
YES! I was at a Neutrogena event when that pink grapefruit line came out & got a lot of samples and it dried out my skin so bad. I like their original acne wash... orange one
Susan- your recommendations are my holy grail! I have learned so from you! Thank you “Skincare Goddess .” No drugstore serums?- I noticed you skipped. Luv you Susan! ❤️❤️
The micellar water from Simple is really my holy grail. I’ve used the Koh Gen Do cleansing spa water for years but for the price the micellar water by Simple is really my go-to!
I use LaRoche Posay products and really like them, but I also really LOVE Boots No. 7 products. Their cleansing gel, tinted moisturizer and now their facial oil. I love their products - I'm a genuine customer, not a paid reviewer! I've used really expensive products like La Mer, Fresh and Skinceuticals...all great, but these are my day to day go-to's.
Omg I love that you mentioned Avène 🙏🏼 Avène products saved my skin in 2011, I had WILD excema all over my face, also my EARS I mean.. It was a nightmare.. then I started on Avène and I never looked back 🙌🏼 My skin have never looked or felt better! To everyone with sensitive skin, dry skin, excema etc.. Try Avène, I swear you will get mindblown. I have not had a excema-breakout since I started on them 9 years ago. Edit: (Sorry I spelled eczema totally wrong before)
As a professional aesthetician in Toronto for over a decade, I agree with alot of the feedback she gave on some afordable products. But the reason why serums are so important is because they have a lower molecular level, with high concentration of peptides and antioxidants which help to stimulate collagen as well elastin in the skin. Moitrurizers and water based products sit just on the top layer of the skin. Fact: after the age of 25 we stop producing collagen and every year we lose 1% of the collagen in our skin 😉
I just want you to know that I have been watching your videos for about a week now and realizing how little I knew. I will be 30 in March and all my life people have told me did I look considerably younger. Just this year I feel like my age is catching up to me just a little bit. I've been taking notes on your . I have begun using a few products/ ingredients that you recommended. My face feels so good! I never knew how bad my face felt until comparing it to now! My skin feels clean, light, not tight. Thank you so much maybe you saved me. Maybe it's a little too late.
I am definitely very much about alcohol and fragrance free. But I ignore the non-comedogenic. Everyone has such different skin and different triggers plus comedogenic ratings are done based off testing done using rabbit ears which is the best we have but not ideal. I really stress learning your own acne triggers.
It really looks like you just bought all of these products right before shooting the video haha but overall I love this! You should post more about affordable skincare!
I have been using the Ponds cleansing balm to remove my make-up and I really like it. I want to try out the CeraVe lotion, and I totally agree Aquaphor is a must have with kids.
hello! I have oily and acne prone skin and cetaphil oily and acne prone skin face wash have saved my life for the last 3 years. been using it 2 times a day and i can say that my 40 year old skin have never been better!
This is a relief to read. I'm working on repairing my moisture barrier, and recently went back to the cerave hydrating cleanser. Out of cutiosity, how long did it take you to see results?
I really like it too! It's literally the only cleanser that doesn't dry my skin out. I think it's because it doesn't foam. I've noticed usually foaming means it's drying. If you have dry skin I would recommend to use other CeraVe's products too. I love the moisturizing cream and the facial moisturizer with spf25. I use both on my face. I'm a cosmetology student in Finland so I'm really passionate about this stuff😂
Tiahna Grace the usual amount of time, a week to two weeks. You should try a cica product to repair your skin they apparently work wonders. La roche posay has their cicaplast baume and a bunch of Korean brands have them too
94dreaming same! Foam cleansers I have found are too drying, gel and cream ones are the way to go! I found their AM moisturizing lotion to leave too much of a white cast on my face but I live in Arizona (the sunniest state in the USA) so I’m fairly tan. But I love their moisturizing cream!
Appreciate Susan for being so vocal about Skin care and all the research / testing you and your team goes through…that’s a lot of hard core work! Have a question about lip balm having a sunscreen in it .. Is it good having a sunscreen in a lip balm if yes please do refer some products which are accessible at all stores and budget friendly ? Thanks 😊
Brittyn Combs I think their other stuff may have fragrance so watch out for that but the Peach Pudding is one of my favorite drugstore first cleansers.
I love the Ponds facial wipes. Its the only brand that doesnt leave any film or residue on my skin. My skin feels so clean after use. I keep a pack in my gym bag.
I struggled with Cystic Acne and made it worse with harsh scrubs. I got the Neutrogena Oil Free Cleanser & my dermatologist told me to use it only once a day, in the morning as it acts as an exfoliant and to be gentle when cleansing with the amount of pressure I use from my hands. While my skin is still wet I put on CeraVe moisturizer to lock in moisture and then SPF once that dries. At night I use a more gentle cleanser (like chetaphil) the same CeraVe moisturizer and I wait for my skin to dry again, then I apply Differin. This has saved my skin and all the products I used were from the drug store! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
The new sunscreen Coppertone Pure&Simple +100% natural botanicals spf50 80min water resistant 24.08% zinc oxide is much more sheer than all the Neutrogena mineral sunscreens. It still leaves a little white cast which is easily masked with a tinted sunscreen. It even has green tea in it. 6oz $9.
@@tiahnagrace6325 it is moisturizing enough for my dry skin. A tip, the way I mask the cast (I'm brown) I apply a good non cakey tinted sunscreen - the best so far is cotz flawless complexion spf50 with 20% zinc oxide - and finish with a layer of coppertone. It tottally masks the cast and I looooove it. Double SPF 50 application plus iron oxides from the cotz = extra protection and skin looking amazing.
That shirt looks super freaking cute on you especially with your gorgeous skin tone. It looks beautiful on you and that lipstick and polish really pulls it together
That's a brand that has millions of reviews. If there's one brand you can find info on, it's the ordinary. You don't need one more. They were such a hit that everyone was talking about them. And it still is considering how people here will not stop mentioning it, like all the mountains of reviews aren't enough. You(the general you) ask her this on every video.
@ Lauren Henderson......there are dozens and dozens of videos done by very reputable people out on RU-vid land. And they are definitely not paid for! Check out Caroline Hirons, Nadine Baggott and Wayne Goss for starters. That is very rude and very insulting And I do believe both Caroline Hirons and Nadine Baggot also have a very long, indepth interview with Brandon Truaxe.
I can see both sides. There’s a wealth of information on the ordinary on RU-vid already but also who are u to tell people who to trust. If she wants a specific opinion then oh well.
@@ginnybloomer5132 She doesn't want to go to those millions of other reviews. She wants to hear Susan Yara's take on the brand. Thats part of how these reviews work. If there's a particular beauty guru you trust and gives you the information in a way you can digest, then people want to hear that specific opinion. Why come on and direct people to someone else's channel just because YOU are annoyed at the question being asked?
You are so helpful and easy to watch! I could watch you for hours! You are the only influencer on RU-vid that I listen to for skincare advice/recommendations/suggestions, and just overall skincare knowledge. Please please don't ever stop🙏.💖
I should buy stock in CereVe and VaniCream. My youngest suffers from severe eczema and I keep these creams in every room of the house. We love them. Especially the CereVe balm.
I am am Esthetician & my clients told me to watch your channel because you remind them of me and how I explain how to use skincare. I to love my job in skincare and inhaled all the knowledge in school...I love all your advice. The only one I don't agree with & I could be wrong. As an Esthetician I have noticed when I gently use a makeup remover with natural ingredients ( some with non clogging oils) but also using this with an Honest baby wipe to get off the top layer of makeup.. because I feel really strongly about just rubbing makeup into your pores while washing both manually or with my clarisonic facial brush. So I always use a gentle makeup wipe or makeup remover with a wipe for the first layer and then a gentle cleanser with a facial brush... It has kept my skin from breaking out. I am positive that is what has taken away those little breakout.. specially black heads. And bi-weekly glycolic peels, vit. C .. all the other products you talk about in your hyper pigmentation video are exactly what i have been using since having kids and getting " pregnancy mask" Your channel is great. That is the only thing I advice my clients with acne, big pores ( before I can fix them with peels & high frequency) 😋 I do say wipe gently first and then cleanse so no makeup goes in the pores. Love your channel. Xoxo Brooklin
I really appreciated the drug store tips. With my mother still feeling the side effects of chemo for breast cancer, it has been really difficult to find lotions, make up, hair care etc items that were free of alcohol, fragrance & harsh chemicals that would literally leave burn marks on her skin. She's no longer on active chemo (IV) treatments but is still taking chemo pills. So I'm still trying to learn as much as possible to shop products that are safe for her, so thanks flr the tips!!
The Ordinary is a very amazing brand to check out, its sold online at Sephora BUT they are cheaper than most of my drugstore products. Bought a bottle of their retinoid for 8 bucks and like WOW, my skin got smoother and it elimnated my blackheads in literally a few uses. I use it every 3 days because when i used it back to back it was a little harsh (retinoid is something you have to work slow with) but wooow I love it.
@Helenalella hello! I do have the granactive retinoid emulsion, sorry I didn't specify. I have veeery sensitive skin, so I wasn't surprised when my skin broke out. Im sure for most people though it would be fine to use more often. :)
I really love neutrogena's cleansers, Deep Clean and Acne Wash (yellow edition) are amazing, I have oily skin and I have used salicylic acid for year so my skin tolerates that active very well.
Gabby 127 they’ve got a new hydro line that I’m hooked on. Ticks all the boxes ☑️ do agree that their grapefruit line was a bit harsh on the skin though.
bunnyandfawn I like a few no7 products but I didn’t include Target brands in this round up because I don’t consider them to be 100% drugstore. Target has completely overhauled their beauty aisles and work with lots of clean brands too, so it’s almost its own video.
Wow a lot of people have so much hate on the Neutrogena grapefruit XD and here i am fanning over it. It actually cleared out my acne. But the first time I used it, it did dry out my skin and some pimples got out but I was told it’s “skin purging” part of the process to get out all the shit out and what not and than a few weeks later my skin became much better. No drying and no pimples.
1) Micellars are surfactants 2) you should go in with a real gel/cream cleanser after removing your makeup 3) you don't need to rinse but unless you almost never get acne you almost definitelyl should
I love products ❤️ from the drugstore since I am teenager and do not have a lot of money to spend on my skincare routine. I will consider all your recommendations and I also loved how you kept it simple, affordable and helpful in the video. I would also like to recommend 😎 some products I use which are easily accessible for everyone everywhere. I love a cleanser from La Roche-Posay called EFFACLAR, it targets oily and acne prone skin ( I have been using it for 3 years now and it works wonderfully ) and has a slightly lower ph to give your skin a more suitable ph level when you rinse it off. Another great cleanser that contains salicylic acid is the new one from Garnier, it is infused with Green Tea. Unluckily, it is a little bit scented, so it may irritate a little those who have very sensitive skin, however, my skin hasn’t reacted to it yet, and I have been using it for two months now, with my other gel cleanser (the one i named before) as a double cleanse. As toners go, I love one from Vittesse, it is their Three-Mineral Complex, it is great, it leaves my skin supple and ready to receive a good moistruizer. I change my moisturizer according to my day or night routine. I don’t like thick moisturizers. I love my EFFACLAR MAT, from La Roche-Posay and also love one from Avéne (but this one is named like a light serum). Thank you so much for your recommendations, I am sure I’ll give them a shot when I have the chance 🥰
I love your videos, the La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Sunscreen Fluid has been my holy grail product for years! I feel like giving myself a pat on the back now that I see you mention it.
Ebanel is a great brand that sells hyaluronic acid and vitamin C as well as retinol as separate serums for like $9.99 each, they also do bundles. I love my serums and you can't beat the price point!
I’ve just recently started watching your videos. I love them! You are so knowledgeable and in all honesty, I feel that you are genuine in your response. Thank you!
Great video! My fave drugstore buys right now are Garnier The Gentle cleanser, followed by Yes to Cotton (cottonseed) micellar water. I really really love the Yes to Cotton line of products ♥️
I don't know if you are in the us or not, but one of the best balm cleanser is the matcha balm from physician's formula [they usually put an offer every 3 weeks on Phys For like: $10 back when you buy $15]. I suggest you shop at cvs, sign up for their extracare card AND create an online acct. They'll email you 40% off one item coupons or 20, 25 or 30% off total purchase as long as the item is not on sale. HOWEVER, this doesn't exclude items at regular price that have "cashback" in the form of extracarebucks, money you can use at cvs. They also have smaller coupons that you can stack [when you go in, put your phone number on the red kiosk and it'll print it out] like $5 off $22 in skinace and those include sale items. I have gotten SOOOO much stuff for free, especially on black friday last year they had nyx liquid suede matte glosses for either $1 or free. Start following blogs like The Krazy Coupon Lady or Hip2save. My recommendations from their store are: - physicians' Formula Matcha 3 in 1 balm cleanser - physicians' Formula Bright Booster Oil elixir [even good on oily skin] - Loreal revitalif Vit c 10 % serum [got it free after $10 cashback last week and Oh my God it is sooo nice and doesn't sting] - La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 spf face sunscreen, no white cast or minimal
yluthien Oh if you sign up for the CVS rewards program, you then should sign up for their BEAUTY rewards program. It has to be done seprately but with the same CVS account number. I had no idea and missed out on lots of benefits.
Both me and my brother have had to quit using Cerave products (facial cleanser for me, moisturizer for him) because they gave use both constant eye irritation. To the point we were both using medicated eye drops, and the only relief came from quitting those products. We were careful to keep them out of our eyes (like common sense), but that irritation couldn't be avoided, sadly.
ratata Sadly, not every “good” product works for everyone, but I wouldn’t use one person’s experience sway you to buy or not buy the product. That’s why I always say skincare is personal. Cerave could be amazing for you. You won’t know unless you try it.
I really like Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost cleanser! It feels and works like Glossier’s jelly cleanser. I think they’re at a similar price point, but one you have to buy online and the other is sold at drugstores. They’re both great for all skin types! I started using both of them when I had severely dry skin, and I still use them now that I have combination/oily skin, caused by testosterone. The Glossier cleanser is sold in a travel size and a bigger bottle, but the travel/mini one lasts a good while. When it starts getting low, I add a bit of water to it and gently shake it up. Somehow it doesn’t disturb the product’s original texture! It’s actually really cool, because it means you can stretch it to last even longer
I think there was so much about the treatment category that could have been talked about that was missed! There are so many good serums and treatments in the drugstore, specially in the "derm" section. - Both La Roche Posay and Vichy have amazing, highly tolerated Vitamin C products (Redermic C10 and Liftactiv) - and both companies are from the same group as Skinceuticals that has the holy grail formula of topical Vitamin C, so it's definitively something to look into. - How can we talk about glycolic acid without mentioning Neostrata? It's a drugstore brand and it was the first brand to find out about the benefits of glycolic acid in skincare! Their whole resurfacing line is worth the look. They also have a pretty solid retinol line. - Moisturizing serums? The Mineral 89 from Vichy became one of the best selling products across all drugstores around the world, it's truly a holy grail. - Vichy has some amazing anti-aging lines with specific needs for each stage of life, such as the LiftActiv line or the Neovadiol one. - For acne and pores, if not going for the Neostrata line mentioned above, definitively the Effaclar from La Roche Posay is one of the most traditional ones. Vichy also has the Normaderm line that is a bit more packed with salicylic acid. Neostrata also has a line focused on mandelic acid that is a bit more gentle. I could keep going but I defintiively think these deserve more attention :)
The Drag Series la roche posey and Vichy is hard enough to find in drug stores and the other brand I’ve personally never seen in drug stores now or in the past at any of the major us cities I’ve lived in so I think it’s just bc they may not be accessible in her area
The Drag Series yeah I’ve never seen that last brand in Boston, Chicago or nyc and definitely not in any small town drug stores. But I know the west coast carries some different stuff that the Midwest/northeast
The simple micellar gel face wash is my miracle face wash. That alone saved my skin. another product is Neutrogena hydro boost gel moisturizer (for dry skin) and it's the best ever
R Rooster the only way it would be even slightly accurate is if she meant to say that Differin (which is a brand, the active is adapalene) is the OTC form of the prescription retinoid adapalene. Accutane is a brand name for isotretinoin and it has a completely different molecular structure to adapalene. It’s most similar to tretinoin, structurally they’re isomers. So I would maybe give her a pass if she said tretinoin was the topical form of isotretinoin aka Accutane.
R Rooster I’m not the original commenter. But I don’t think the average person would know what she meant. And because she emphasizes that she’s an expert and critiques routines and designs routines for people she knows, she’s going to be held to a higher standard I think. At least if people comment on it she’ll realize she misspoke and can clarify or perhaps she didn’t know and this is an opportunity to look into something further.
Just a tip for anyone with eczema prone and sensitive skin: Vanicream is AMAZING for the winter! But if you’re looking for a lighter option for warmer months the Elf Hello Hydration face cream is amazing! No irritation, very lightweight, and quick absorption!
I feel like you are not really using these products and may have only tried them once or so. Just be real and don't recommend products that you really don't use in your skincare routine. It is pretty clear that you really use high-end products.
i dont think that's fair. her viewers asked for drugstore recommendations so she did her research and gave drugstore recommendations. i don't think she is at all misleading or "not being real." People trust her skincare advice, so shes giving it, and she realizes not everyone has the income she does. Can you imagine if her whole channel was just "wear exactly what i wear or f*** right off plebs" ? lol
Riiiight?? What a hypocrite, she comes across extremely fake and phoney. She is not very genuine and will advertise for the sake of profiting from companys
Just a note, Hawaii isn't banning certain sunscreen ingredients because they're unsafe for humans. The ban is because there has been a LITTLE (underscore little) research that these ingredients maybe be harmful to coral reefs. The research is relatively recent and more research needs to be done to confirm the results. Please be more careful with your words when talking about a lifesaving product like sunscreen.
I never use vaseline on skin for long. It's good for a day or two but any longer than that and I find it makes things worse not better. I find coconut oil, edible grade, is really nice instead and I've been known to use it for hand cream before I found a rose with shea butter one from L'occitane. Old fashioned Cold Cream (like the old one from Ponds which is still made) is Amazing for getting off makeup, especially waterproof mascara. I tried it because of an old video here on RU-vid from the 50s and it's brilliant. I use it gently around the eyes and then rub it off with a damp cloth, then cleanse with a regular wash after. Beats make-up remover and micellar water hands down!
I am having doubts about your recommendations. The Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash is one of the worst products I have ever used and have had a lot of people tell me the same. Do not use this product.
My Grandmother used Ponds cold cream that she wiped off with a hand towel. For some reason she just threw them away. She bought new ones and never washed them just threw them away. After that she washed her face with pink Dove soap. Her skin was beautiful, no pores, no age spots, just even tone and supple. So it proves you don’t have to spend a fortune. I’m going to buy the Ponds cleansing balm.
