Thank you for this reaction. I have been listening to Rush since 1981. They came out in 1974. I have been to several concerts and I have derived the bulk of my drumming style from Neil Peart. He showed us how to do the impossible. He showed us how to perfect our craft, to make every note count. Thanks again.

@@KentBalzer For me, it was his lyrics. I am heartbroken at the loss of a talented drummer and musician... devastated really. But what's brought tears to my eyes for 4 days now, is the loss of the man who write lyrics that were so capable or reaching out and impacting you to the degree and level that his did. I am legitimately mourning his death more than I can ever say I have a family member's.

The cool thing is that he's pulling off polyrhythms -- he's got different rhythmic patterns working with his feet than he does with his hands -- happening simultaneously! The guy worked his ass off to achieve independents with his limbs. Great drummer!

I discovered Rush at the age of 11 because I was missing a cassette to complete my registration with Columbia House! I decided to take Moving Pictures from Rush which had just come out. WOW, what a good choice, at 11, I discovered there was music that didn't play on the radio but was so much better than anything I had heard before. 39 years later, I can say that this discovery has changed my musical tastes for the rest of my life, I saw Rush 17 times in concert while they were active, and my taste for "prog" music follows me still to this day. Thanks Neil!

He silently battled brain cancer for the past 3 years... Years ago he also lost his daughter & his wife. Such horrible tragedies yet instead of sinking into darkness, he went on to create some of rock music's most iconic & enduring masterpieces. They didn't call him The Professor for nothing. He's schooling everyone here with this amazing solo. He was one of my favorite drummers of all time, from the very first RUSH album (2112) I bought when I was a teenager back in the early 1980's... We introduced my daughter to RUSH when she was in the 3rd grade. She's been a huge fan ever since she was 8 years old. She's almost 16 and Metallica is now her #1 favorite band, but RUSH is a close 2nd, if not tied for 1st. Great reaction, guys - loved your squeals of joy watching the legend in action. :-)

As a Canadian, It’s somehow fitting that I just watched 2 young guys learn for the first time about one of the best drummers who ever lived.. Rush were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994 & Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.. He died from brain cancer on Tuesday, RIP🇨🇦💔

As an old man who "used to could" play the drums a little bit, I have to say that what you're seeing here is absolutely incredible. It's hard enough to have your right foot and your left foot doing different stuff, but then you add your right and left hands doing still different stuff to the mix, it becomes even more difficult. THIS is WAY beyond that, as Neil is playing different "times" with each appendage...all at the same time... To me, impossible! To Neil, effortless! Rock on...

Neil was the greatest drummer. Ever. This solo came after they'd been onstage for over 2 hours or so. They regularly played for 3 hours a night, with a 20 minute break in the middle. He'd been playing for over 20 years when he decided he wasn't happy with his technique, so he went and studied with a jazz drummer and relearned his technique from scratch. He retired in 2015, due to a shoulder injury and passed away following a 3 and a half year battle against brain cancer.

As a Canadian who grew up near Neil, I'm proud that he was the best and recognized as such. Nice to see the tributes. Too bad people often die before they get known. The rest of Rush are Alex Lifeson on guitar and Geddy Lee on bass and keyboards. Lee is also recognized as one of the best bassists in the world. Neil had arthritis and could still play like that! He also had tragedy in his life losing his daughter in a car accident and his wife to cancer. In order to heal, he rode his motorcycle between their concert venues to think about life. Out of that came a book "Ghost Rider" about healing through his journeys on the road. He also wrote other books and was Rush's main lyricist. He was a funny and extremely intelligent man. He will be missed. Look into some songs by Rush. The music and lyrics are both phenomenal. Being Canadian, like most things we do, we seem to often be overlooked.

The washing machine story is this: Geddy Lee started using the venue's sound system for his Bass wherever they went, so no need for amps anymore. So to fill the space they choose different things to make fun of guitarists that have stacks of amps. On the Snakes and Arrows tour they had Rotisseries actually cooking chickens. And those are cowbells making those sounds you liked. I would suggest you guys listen to the following Rush songs from an old Canadians wasted youth in no particular order: La Villa Strangiato (Instrumental) Working Man Anthem Finding My Way The Necromancer Bastille Day Closer to the Heart Tom Sawyer YYZ (Instrumental), Red Barchetta By Tor & The Snow Dog Leave That Thing Alone (Instrumental) Subdivisions Xanadu Limelight The Spirit Of Radio, Cygnus X-1 Book II 2112 Fly By Night Freewill The Trees Entres Nous RIP Neil Peart. May you enjoy being rejoined with your 1st wife and daughter in heaven.

Something you guys may not know is that every sound you heard in this video was something HE did. The explosion sounds in the beginning, the echos, the music and the video playing behind him... all him... not stage crew. The electronic kit and some of the acoustic drums have "triggers". Usually the triggers make one sound that is a MIDI recording of a particular drum you want to recreate. However, they can also be programmed so that (for example) the eighth time you hit that trigger it will play a prerecorded piece of music. So when that Jazz number starts with the black and white video playing behind him, he triggered that to happen. He likely triggered it before we saw it and was able to time his playing perfectly because he heard a click track in his ear bud that counted him into the song.

The reason for the washing machines is that bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee sends his signal direct to the sound desk. He doesn't use a backline of amps like most other musicians. But, if he didn't have the washing machines, the stage would look 'unbalanced'. They were full of limited edition t shirts for that particular date and were thrown into the crowd at the end of the show. For other tours, he had fridges and chicken rotisserie ovens, that worked and fed the roadcrew.

That's completely untrue - he was ok at that time but definitely not considered a pro. In fact, he went to London for a while and in Neils words "went knocking on doors" but came back as he couldn't sustain it financially and went to work for his Dads homewares store.. He was never a pro in that regard until he he joined Rush. Another bandwagon video, it's amazing how you guys will take advantage of any opportunity.

RIP Neil. Great reaction guys. The Professor still blowing peoples minds is so awesome to watch, now is sad at same time. Blessed to see them live in 97. One of the best shows I've seen. Now you have to jump into the Rush rabbit hole and be mesmerized by the trio playing this awesome music. Thanks.

Now that you've been introduced to the best drummer ever, maybe you should check out the band (Rush) .... 'Tom Sawyer' is a good place to jump in and see how Neil's glorious drums sound in a song played with one of the best bassists in the world (Geddy Lee), and a truly under-appreciated master of the guitar (Alex Lifeson). Thank you for the wonderful tribute ..........

Been into Rush for forty years and saw them many times over the years. Had a huge impact on my life and still can't believe he's gone. Some attempt to carry on after the death of a key member but Geddy, Alex and Neil were one of those rare bands in music history where everything was in the right place at the right time and the three of them were as one. Sadly we will never see their like again. Neil also wrote many books. Ghost rider tells the tale of his 55000 mile motorcycle road trip in the aftermath of losing his only daughter to a car crash in 1997 and 10 months later his wife to cancer. If you are interested I also suggest you also watch Beyond the Lighted Stage on Netflix and Time Stand Still on Sky arts which are brilliant documentaries about the band.

Do yourself a favor and buy the album "Moving Pictures" studio album and "Exit Stage Left" live concert album by Rush. Not only is Neil Peart one of the top 3 rock drummers ever to pick up a drumbstick but he also wrote alot of the lyrics to their songs.

He was the greatest living (progressive rock) drummer after the death of the greatest (rock) drummer, John Bonham, in 1980. Both of these guys should be in anyones top 5. Its time to listen to Rush all weekend starting with the underrated Caress of Steel. Thank You Neil, you are an insiration

Neil Peart was who the best drummers in the world talked about. Many have already played their own drum solo tributes to him in concerts since his passing. RIP Professor!!!

GOAT. Many great drummers, many were incredible but fell off way back the trail, Neil Peart did it at the highest level for over 40 years. He may not be your favorite drummer but he's your favorite drummer's favorite drummer.

Loved watching you dudes react to Neil! I've been a Rush fan since my childhood in the 1970s. Saw them in concert in 1978. It makes me happy that people are still discovering their music and how great it is. RIP Neil.

The washing machines are there because Geddy doesn't use a stack of amplifiers like Alex does, so he had washing machines this tour. They've had chicken rotisseries and other things as well.
