It’s amazing, we can land a man on the moon, but manufacturers can’t seem to design a decent hose for a dryer! Then, to add insult to injury, we’re expected to shell out anywhere from $30 to $60 for a kit that should be part of the design in the first place. This should be the easiest thing in the world.
You all prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
I’m a fairly recent widow whose husband did all this kind of thing for. I had no idea how to hook up the washer and dryer after a recent move. There is so much to consider! Thank you for sharing your expertise.
THANK YOU!!!! Bought the kit and was much easier to install because the elbow brackets rotated. Please update your video to include installation as I needed to look at other videos to see how to attach to the junction in the wall and the dryer. Much appreciated!!! So very helpful, including on what NOT to use!
I am bad! I have not checked my vent in years! Many! Ashamed. Checked yesterday. OMG! All but totally plugged! Flexible Al tube. Definitely not flammable. But, what a mess! So, got rigid metal tubing from the hardware store today. Total pain because of the tight working space! But I got it done.
Good video, thanks for posting. Just ordered one of these and should arrive in a few days. Hoping it fits for my situation. Replacing that exact same hose you lit up.
I really do appreciate this video!!!!! My old dryer started to smoke and I do believe it was because of the aluminum hose that I had! So I just recently bought a new one, it should be here tomorrow and I am doing research! I like to take care of my investments!!!!!
I tried to use metal, I found it impossible to even fit the metal to the exhaust opening on the new dryer. I could not get one over the other! Also, working in a very tight space. It shouldn't be so difficult!
Wish they made a dryer where the vent comes out of the top, so I don't have to move the dryer out, remove or reattach vent then move it back into place hoping the vent tube will go where I want it to, and stay attached to dryer. ... wish it would just attach on top of the dryer.
if anyone ever wanted to make a million dollars quick they would design a system that just reaches in and clamps on with no fking screwdrivers or crawling around on a damp basement floor like an idiot. i'm going to make one and then burn every dryer hose i ever see. such an idiotic design.
I'm sure you will. every dryer install is different, thats why the vents on the back smartass. its up to the installer to install a proper venting system
I've watched about 50 dryer vent videos and you'd think half the houses in America would be burning to the ground given all the warnings about don't do this don't use that. No vertical runs, no flex tubes, no plastic tubes, beware 90 degree angles, and on and on. I'm willing to bet that most houses break at least one of these rules.
They are a part of the standard code now because of previous fires and a lot of testing. There are thousands of house fires every year because of dryers and their exhaust system not being up to code or cleaned out.
I have been using the very flexible metallic accordion duct in my past three houses past three houses, without incident. However, it bridged the area from dryer to the nearby opening in exterior wall, was within full view without combustible material nearby; I could easily remove it, examine its interior and clean it out or replace it. Now I am faced with a house that has a run of rigid metal exhaust duct within the wall and includes at least two elbows, probably more. I will use either rigid metal ducting or something like is shown in this video to connect the dryer to the hidden segment, because I won't be able to inspect and clean the whole duct run.
Please note that the openings on the kit are different... in his left hand is a female end and in his right hand is a male end... At my house.... the two duct openings are male.. the one out of the dryer and also the one out of the wall.... So naturally I needed two female ends on my kit.... The funny part is that I opened the box at Home Depot to ensure the kit was complete...having read where others had parts missing. I didn't think to check the ends.. So I think that should be made clear to all thinking to buy this kit. I had to tear off the male end, and was able to hook it up after some minor modifications. (I built a giant, thick washer). I connected and clamped the female end to the dryer and connected the modified other end to the wall duct. It seems to be working ok so far! .
@TheDryerVentDoctor : Could you tell me who the manufacturer of this type of vent is? Or what it’s called exactly? The wall exhaust pipe for the the dryer transition vent is to the right side of my dryer, instead of behind it or above it, although the dryer’s vent hole is on the back of the unit. I’m not sure what type of vent elbows or whatever I need. I want to be able to pull the dryer forward from time to time to clean behind it, grab fallen items, and clean the transition vent, so I need something flexible, but whirlpool wants the hook up to be rigid or semi rigid. This looks like a good option but I’m not sure where to find it. I live in Montreal Canada.
Was hoping you would show attaching to the dryer. I have that kit but no matter how hard I tighten the clamp, rigid part that goes on the dryer keeps slipping off the pipe coming out of the dryer
@@johnshoemaker9380 ? The vent tape crushes? The fireproof tape, used on duct work for furnaces as well, starts fire? Sorry, I know I am missing your point. The HARD metal will not stay on the HARD metal coming out of my dryer and clamps don"t hold it on. So, what should I use if not the tape?
You are probably right. You would need to clean more often. Sometimes it is the only way to vent due to construction or location of dryer in the interior of the house.
i live in a modular home where the vent goes from the unit to the outside. We just bought an Lg washtower where the dryer is on top and how it's venting, it isn't allowing us to push the stackable washtower to the wall. It's sticking out blocking our back door. Do you have any videos showing a solution to this problem? Is there any way to cut out the drywall and have a periscope vent encased so it pushes all the way back, IF that would even work? We're desperate to find a solution. PLEASE HELP?
There is a side venting kit for the LG Washtower, from LG, that allows you to reduce the clearance at the back. LG website, documentation, and videos provide enough information that I think someone with some basic handyman aptitude and skill can do the job. There is still a minimal back clearance that LG specifies. And now you would need some clearance beside the washtower. I had begun examining this solution for myself, but we decided to purchase another washer dryer set because LG service is not available where we are purchasing.
My dryer exhaust vent is rigged metal, and not flexible. Someone decided it would be a good idea to use 2 foot sections and duct tape them together. Taking it apart now to find a half inch of lint lining the inside of the pipe.
Do you have a video showing how to install a dryer secondary lint trap? Soon I will move to a new construction home (built just a few months ago in 2017). I wonder if the builder installed a dryer secondary lint trap, and if he didn't, I want to learn what to buy to install a dryer secondary lint trap so that I don't have to clean the whole duct on a yearly schedule. Thank you.
The semi rigid vent shown here, and connections, keeps the dryer about 4.5-5 inches from the wall. For confined spaces, that is sometimes too much space, and still be able to close the closet door. Solution?
There's a variety, depending on your specific need, including flattened "periscope" ducts e.g., w w w . northlineexpress.com/close-clearance-dryer-vent-periscope-pipes-29-50-1562.html Also, there are "cut-out" vent boxes w w w . lowes.com/pd/IMPERIAL-11-75-in-x-20-125-in-Aluminum-Dryer-Vent-Box/3203053 that might suit your need. I'm certainly not endorsing any particular product, but offering these as examples of the solution you're looking for. There are many brands/models with different approaches, including some neat quick-disconnect options. Good luck in your search.
I just looked up how to install dryer vent in a tight space. Came across "Periscope dryer vent" aka "Offset dryer vent kit". There's bound to be more. I would like to be able to just back the dyer up to the wall but I think the it'll be off by an inch. Uhg.
FYI, we tried the periscope/offset dryer kits. The Best Buy installers could not get it to work, either. They were still an inch or two too thick in getting our folding doors closed. Our W/D closet is not as deep as the one in this video.
Hi Matt I am interested for this product and what to buy it to replace my old gas dryer vent . However if I go to a Home Depot or Lowe's in my area I don't know the name of this product same with amazon. Can you tell me the name of this product so I don't get the wrong one? Thank you 🙂
It is so hard to believe that THAT is the best thing man can come up with after all these years! That flex vent material is SO fragile it is not even funny CERTAINLY we can come up with something heavy duty that can also take temperature! There are all kinds of flexible lines that handle super hot liquids and gases and you mean NO ONE sells something NICE to vent hot air from a fricken clothes dryer?? And YES I am willing to PAY EXTRA just tell me who sells GOOD vent duct matierial for clothes dryers???
OK I found something! It is not sold specifically for clothes dryer and is like 10X the price of any crap that home depot etc sells. It is made of SILICONE material around steel spring good for 550 degrees! Yes it can take the heat! SILICONE! OF COURSE!!! ... the catch is we are talking a 100 bucks for only 6' or $5o for 3' But I am thinking heck I could get away with 3' ..I think? could use rigid steel duct and the angle fittings using the 3' only for the final transition so I can connect it to the dryer and shove the dryer into it's space! $50 is pretty painless IF it will be super heavy duty and not split open the first time it gets dented by anything! But before I spring for it I want to find SOMEONE that has successfully installed it?? anyone?? Here is the info I found at "Pegasus automotive racing website www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=3631&gclid=CjwKEAiAm8nCBRD7xLj-2aWFyz8SJAAQNalaqSqIUJitWS1ZAi9oNdx8_Hga59QtXaYqQcLzWLm6ZxoCuiPw_wcB I am NOT recommending this, I THINK it should work? But have never used it...someone want to try it and post on youtube? Maybe be a hero? 3631-4.00-6 FOOT Condition: New High Temp Silicone 2-ply Air Duct, 4 inch diameter, 6 foot $95.99
Doug Chaney that's why you hard pipe it with steel, best way to install a dryer vent, that stuff is start garbage, the guys who install it from best buy, lowes, home depot crush is every time pushing you're dryer back,
I'm trying to find any kind of dryer vent that is actually easy to attach to the dryer and the wall duct. I have found that saying it is easy does not make it easy.
Do you sell that metal dryer vent kit with the 90 degree? i cannot find any of that type here in Indiana at Lowes or menards. Or tell me a website where I can order this kit, thank you very much. i am going to have to relocate my dryer vent and want it done right. I've watched two of your videos and I'm amazed as I first had the vyiinal hose, then switched to the flexible metal one which you showed could burn! Oh lordy...I need that kit asap.
👉I am so tired of having the wrong type of vent on our dryer, so here I am. We have the type that you say is not safe.😕 I agree. Its terrible anyway since it falls off even with duct tape👎
To all the people who think any dryer connection method and material is safe just because they have not had a fire: I have seen demonstrations of a person dunking a lit match in a container of gasoline. Do you think doing so is safe just because no fire occurred?
Where do you get this? Why won't TheDryerVentDoctor answer this question? Because you have to hire a contractor, preferably TDVD, to get this dryer vent. I have never voted down a RU-vid video, but I voted this one down because I am not a fan of this type of scare tactic.
is there any where i can get this in Canada? all the stuff they sell is just tin crap and that other garbage. is there a company or product name? Thanks.
That second one @1;26 should NEVER be sold nor the white one that Matt talks about. These need to be removed from the market. The first one is the one you will want.
👉 Who sells the correct metal vent tube? Not home depot. I need that. Is it long enough? Mine needs to go from the dryer and up 8 blocks or so to the outside 😉.
Is this "kit' available with female (over the pipe) elbows on BOTH ends? I have a damper installed inside the wall vent so the elbow must go OVER, not inside the vent.
This is so wrong! You *CAN* use an aluminum "flex-duct" for your dryer, especially the portable ones. As long as it's a UL listed duct specifically made for dryers *AND* it's from a reputable brand (Deflecto, Dundas Jafine, etc.), you should be okay. While they may not necessarily be *fireproof,* they are *NOT* "highly flammable" like this idiot claims. Notice how quickly he extinguishes the flame. This is a classic scare-tactic used by these so-called "professionals" to scare people into buying their products and/or services. All you have to do is use common sense, make sure your dryer duct isn't kinked or crushed, inspect them regularly, and you'll be fine.
you are a "dr" those 90s are cheap, they have bends that have opens in them, air gasp that 180 bend, each 90 degree bends is roughly adding 5ft of extra pipe so your 180 bend is really added 10 ft of pipe to the run, also the flex material you are showing is for bathroom exhaust, I bet you it clearly says don't use for dryer vents, the true flex material used for dryer vents is UL rated, by code you can only use it for 5ft in a room, can't go through the floor and penetrating a wall or ceiling, that ridge aluminum you're using once it get bent or pancaked you have to replace it every single time because it's restricting the air flow in the pipe, you really should be putting to adjustable 90s instead of them cheap ass 90 you're showing just saying Dr, are you even certified?
Hi Matt PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL THESE RIGID HOSES BEHIND DRYERS!!! Rigid metal hoses often crack and split because they fatigue due to repeated bending. Customers like to pull out dryer and clean behind them. If they are not careful, they end up splitting and/or crushing the rigid hose when pushing the dryer back into place. This creates a hidden fire hazard due to unseen restricted airflow. This is the cause for many of our service calls. These rigid hoses also add another 4-6 feet of travel for the air, and significant elbows and turns... leading to even more lint build up. Lastly they are difficult to clean because you need to bend them straight and then bend them back into a horse shoe. Each time you do this, they get one step closer to breaking. Accordion spring steel flex hoses do not have these issues. They compress back into a short hose when the dryer is pushed back into place and this is important because Florida code limits vents to under 25 feet of travel. Many vents in Florida are over 60 feet and present extraordinary fire hazards. Proper flex hoses are UL rated and ARE NOT flammable because they do not contain paper. They are 100% metal. You are right when you say that the flex hose you demonstrated in this video is dangerous and should never be installed. But it's not because its accordion style. Its because it is made of paper. When we see a rigid hose you recommend in this video, we warn customers of the danger and remove them and replace them with UL RATED FIRE PROOF flex hose. They are available from Deflecto and Dunjustafine manufacturers. Please consider this in future service calls. We only recommend the flexible rigid hose for use in interior wall construction when rigid pipe is impracticle. This is what it was originally designed for. Thank you. Scott
wich one is better: Deflecto Easy Connecting Dryer Vent Hook Up Kit , Flexible Semi-Rigid, (HUPK8WA/4) and BTD48 Dryer Vent 4" x 8' Aluminum Venting Pro Flex Vent Dundas Jafine
You look like the guy from my local taco bell. I hope you're doing OK. Thanks for the cheddar toasted chalupa, it was really good, also my dryer vent isn't attaching so here I am. I love you
