Grabbing D early also puts a bit of a strangle hold on guys fading D; by the time you have filled out your top 3 D man, guys are picking up reilly and carlson for their #1 D while you can still be scooping top forwards that can produce similar points to those guys they scooped when they were fading D. It sounds risky but by round 6-7 I want to already have 3 top Dman. You should really dive into points projections on a mock team that fades D, and one that prioritizes D very early and see which is more favourable, would be a good video.
Great video. Really goes to show how much talent is in the league right now that you can pick that late and still end up very well off. Got a feeling people will look back at this era as a golden era.
Man, seeing those late picks get Kaprizov+ Hughes and Hughes+JT Miller I was like, damn that's actually great pairs. Then I saw what you were left with in round 3 and 4 and no longer like those positions lol.
Thank you so much man. Draft is Friday and needed to watch both vids to be prepared. I either want to draft 1-4 or 11-12. The best I seen was the 2nd pick in my opinion. Mac-Josi-Robertson is deadly.
Took Brady Tkachuk at 10 then went Q Hughes and Josi for top 3 and went with Marner and Tage next 2 picks. Thanks for the help you guys all really helped I was lost this year for fantasy lmao.
In competitive leagues both J. Hughes and Kaprizov are going before Panarin and JT Miller. Jack and Kirill are not falling outside of the first round in a 12 man competitive league.
I’m in a 3 keeper 10 team banger league. I’ve got Rantanen, Jack Hughes, Josi and JT Miller. I think my decision lands between Miller and Josi. I’m leaning Josi. Thoughts?
You don't have to go in with Seth Jones as your #1 D....you can grab a number of solid guys to lead your D-core in the Hamilton to Reilly range. Personally I'm not gonna engage in big reaches for d-men; I'd rather clean up on high end forwards if they're being passed over.
@@deuceb8472 from what I’ve been seeing in competitive drafts - if you don’t grab a D by round 5 you are really scrambling and taking shots in the dark. With D going early, forwards are still falling a ton
I faded D in our last competitive mock up to round 6 and ended up with John Carlson, Sanderson, Faulk and York. Was extremely thin though and definitely a risky play. D have been going at least 1-2 rounds higher in competitive leagues.
I've won two championships in my fantasy league...one win for both strategies. Last season I focused D and got the ship - although Heiskanen was really disappointing as my D2. Thankfully I was able to get Seider and Werenski also.
Hey wanted to get your thoughts for an 8 man draft. If I where to get first and have 1st 16 and 17 would you do mcdavid josi dhalin or what’s your plan in that spot
You want every player on your team to be on PP1 if you can. Most fantasy leagues start 4 D-men(48 D-men in a 12 team league). There are 32 teams in the NHL . That leaves 32 D-men on PP1 . Supply vs demand. If you are going zero G, 2 of your first 5 picks should be D , 2 should be wingers and only 1 C.
As always, great stuff. Really interested to see you play out and give commentary to a couple different strategy: Fade defenseman early Fade goalie early Fade center early Seems like the strategy your overall suggesting is to fade centers and goalies, but would be cool to see how to draft yourself a competitive team with other approaches
Fade Centers and Goalies for sure. If you don't end up with one of: Mcdavid, Mackinnon, Matthews, Draisaitl - you can wait until Round 6/7 to draft your 1st center, in my most recently recorded video (expected post date in a week) I recommended looking at Zibanejad in Round 6/7 and Hischier in Round 10/11. Great value.
In a 10 team (9th pick) fantasy would you recommend drafting brady tkachuk as your first pick and J.t Miller as your 2nd pick? or still select a D man on your 2nd pick?
In a league with hits and blocks do you think it’s worth not going for a top defenseman and just waiting later on for d men like Seider trouba gudas Lauzon weegar etc… In other words banger D men so you can focus on elite forwards
Can you please now make a video for picks 1-9, where Josi is taken before you. In all the drafts now, he is going super early. What are the good options available that are NOT Josi or Dahlin in those spots?
@@Poppapanda2001 not for me, I’m 100% ok with this imo. Worst case, you can probably trade josi to a contender who will be desperate for defenseman because they didn’t draft any good ones early
Aren't you a little worried about Pettersson's year end and post season performance?? Not sure I'm so confortable taking him early second round vs taking an elite forward+ one of Josi, Bouchard or Hughes
@@Mctalbot I’m not overly worried about him if I’m honest - look at marners playoffs versus regular season production. That 2nd round is really difficult right now & that’s why my focus is on defenseman
Playing hurt with one leg, and hot stone hands mikeyhev missing 99% of open net ez feeds from Petey, ain't too worried. Before asg, Petey was on pace for 110pts.
